I think it is:

How can we reach the light

In darkness where we live

How can we make a future

Be a gift we want to give

Can blessings not be shared

Will that day ever come(?)

When freedom reaches every life

Not just the lives of some

What should we all .........

Though it must not return

It was/bore the chains that held us down

and so we all must learn

To make a better world

Whoever may have sinned

The ...... caused the past is Gone,

Gone, Gone, Gone with the wind

The life I used to know has gone

And gone beyond recall

But how the flames were fanned

I really do not understand at all

But what I learned from this

I learned the hardest way

Is that Tomorrow is another day

How can we reach the light

In darkness where we live

How can we make a future

Be a gift we want to give

Can blessings not be shared

Will that day ever come(?)

When freedom reaches every life

Not just the lives of some

What should we all .........

Though it must not return

It was/bore the chains that held us down

and so we all must learn

To make a better world

Whoever may have sinned

The ...... caused the past is Gone,

Gone, Gone, Gone with the wind

Pam, may I suggest that you alter the phrasing in the Bonnie Blue song. i.e.-

Once upon a time

An angel came to Georgia

Instead of.....Once upon a time an angel

Came to Georgia.

I've added the finished ones to the first post in the thread

Thanks, spamfritter. Looking great. It's much appreciated.

I'll try to help a bit tomorrow/today (Friday).

Can this be all?

Is this the end?

I can't believe

I'll never see your face again

Or hear your voice call my name low

Can this be all the life we'll know?

The children now

Will never know,

Their fathers guiding hand

To help them as they grow.

Can I raise them on my own?

How could you leave us all alone?

I pray to God

this war will cease.

No more must die in war

but live their lives in peace.

The end we seek

The cause we share

the cost is more

Than I can bear.

Can this be all?

The boy I knew,

the child I I loved so well is gone

How fast you grew.

To them the war seemed like a game

Our lives, will never be the same.

This war must end

Dear God I pray/This war must end

no one should ..../This war must end

'''''''''''''''''/This war must end

To end dispute

Lord hear me pray ,

Can we not find,

Can we not find, a better way?

The lines seperated with a /

were sung together but I can't remember some of them.

I found this song so sad from the first time I heard it - on the last night it still brough a tear.

Edited by megham

It was very moving - beautifully sung and beautifully staged too - understated to match the solemnity of the scene and all the more powerful for that.

You're right.

The intimate feel in the theatre made everyone in the audience feel so close. You could feel the impact of that song - the agony of loss and of those left behind..

Can you remember which characters sang the verses?

I know that "the boy I knew" one referred to D'arcy Meade but I'm not sure about the others.

I can't. The characters weren't all in view each time and I couldn't catch who sang what - apart from Mrs Meade for that bit and Mrd Elsing/Ellen for the War was just a game/life never the same
I think the line 'The children now/will never know was the girl who played Maybelle Merryweather.
