But not as good as having the show. We missed out on the cast album and the 3rd album this year.

Perhaps we shall have a bonanzo next year. Well, we can hope...........
I bet it's the year after that we'll see more. I just hope Dave isn't right and it's 2107
By accident whils videoing today I watched GWTW the documentary which I am so glad I have as it shows snatches of a number of the songs. It made me realise how much I loved the show and how the songs have stuck with me and also how it compared to other shows but most of all it made me think why.. I have seen a large number of musicals in my time a number of which have been much worse and yet did not get the treatment on theatre sites that this received. They have their own little cliques of leading men, women etc who can do no wrong whatever their standard and I realised that on listening to the ALW concert the other night on radio 2, some were awful.

This is from Rachel's site, posted by Rachel.

Hmm...I was just checking Jill Paice's resume online and it lists Gone With the Wind (Demo) under Recordings - it makes you wonder if the cast did make a demo recording of the show/songs

True. At least we have that. It's a lovely reminder of a talented and hardworking cast and creative team.

I only regret that I let other family commitments keep me from being there more often. I'd love to see it again, with or without Darius.

GWTW was so much better than most musicals, such a roller coaster of emotions, IMHO much more than in the film. I think Sir Trevor did bring more of the essence of Margaret Mitchell's book to the stage, than Hollywood to its film.

I'd have got rid of most of Prissy's scenes. Slavery wasn't pc and no attempt should be made to show it for anything it wasn't. Having said that, even with Prissy's scenes, I'd go again even with different leads. I juswouldn't keep going back unless they were as good as Darius and Jill.

Nothing against the actress who played Prissy by the way. She had a lovely voice and acted very, very well.

I'd love to see GWTW again, with or without Darius.

I think he'd be a very, very hard act to follow though.

He and Jill successfully exorcised the mindset that anyone who attempted those roles would only be pale shadows of CG and VL. They had to walk a very fine line to make them their own.

Sir Trevor couldn't alter their basic characters or images because they were so detailed in the book, to which the Hollywood writers had worked tirelessly to ensure they also kept extremely close .

I haven't been through the film with a fine tooth comb but I'm pretty sure its dialogue, like that in Margaret Martin's play with music, is word for word from the book, other than where Hollywood had to alter it slightly for the censors. The political aspect was almost negligible in the film - no scene in Mrs Elsing's parlour, no overt mention by Gable's Rhett of the Klu Klux Klan - his Rhett was sanitized.

I now find Clark's Rhett a bit 2 dimensional compared to the dark, complicated Rhett of the book, so ably brought to life by Darius on the stage of the New London.

IMHO Hollywood's Rhett lacked the courage of the book's hero and there's little indication that he risked ostracisation by actively speaking out against the stupidity of the Cause. Nor did you get the impression that Rhett despised Southern Society's ways and his veneer of excessive courtesy and biting satire was deliberately designed to wind them up even more. You did get some idea that he was teasing Scarlett but not of the passionate cat and mouse game they played, pitting their wits against each other at every turn. He had her measure from the moment they met.

Darius matched most of what Gable did and also portrayed the darker Rhett with skill. He laid the ghost and proved that other actors can successfully become Margaret Mitchell's Rhett.

I loved the book but just can't stand to watch the film. I like the Rhett and Melanie characters but hated Scarlet, Suellen and Ashley.

Yes please BT. I wonder if any other songs will surface.
Gosh I didn't realise Born To Be Free and Mrs O'Hara's Prayer are also on youtube. Maybe we could work out their lyrics too and add them to the thread.
After you. I still have 4 or 5 of the tracks going around in my head - especially the Tara version from earlier on when Scarlet sings about love being all you need. I think that was one of the bits I liked best.
Having watched the documentary yet again I also have the tunes going round in my head so why were they slated.
No sense of humour - too hung up on a couple of lyrics they didn't like? Jumping on others' bandwagons, instead of having the courage to have their own opinions?
And having it already in their heads that a first time author couldn't produce anything worth listening to. I wish we had all the songs that were included in the first place - I can't even remember them all now. There were so many that only hints stuck as there was just so much new to absorb.

thanks for those links, it was lovely listening to the songs again - how I wish nobody loves you had been recorded - but alone was a joy.

still fuming at the treatment GWTW got - there are a lot of other muscails closing now due to poor sales..gwtw seemed to close before even trying to struggle on, perhaps they didnt actually lose money? just ran out and couldnt borrow like others were doing - I do hope it resurfaces, I really beleive it was a worthy westend muscial in the tradition of the West end - such a waste, I would have seen it more times if it was still on, genuinely enjoyed it and the songs as did hubby and daughter,
