Arrange the songs in a rough chronological order just as you would like the new listener to hear them for the first time.

Can either be your favourite records from the 50's to the 90's, or just 12 songs that represent the whole history of rock and roll through the ages.

I will start............

Bill Haley & The Comets - Rock Around The Clock

Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode

Buddy Holly & The Crickets - That'll Be The Day

Elvis Presley - Jailhouse Rock

The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand

The Rolling Stones - Get off my cloud

The Kinks - You Really Got Me

David Bowie - Life on Mars

Blondie - Hanging on the Telephone

Human League - Don't you want me

U2 - Where the streets have no name

Oasis - Wonderwall

its very hard to try to reprisent all the main cultural fashions there has been, and obviously ive concentrated on the main 'mod' trends. but theres no place for disco, dance, motown, soul, and many more.

...i must add to avoid any confusion

the tracks i chose, i chose because they reprisent a chart era. many i dont even like, but they are examples of the style of music that was around. nor am i saying that these tracks are 'the greatest', just reprisentitive of a particular era.

i chose busted for this centuary as imho they typify the kind of pop music the charts are full of. i could just as easily have chosen steps, or the spice girls, or even westlife!!!

hmm..

Not many of them are either Rock N Roll, but songs/artists that define 'Rock' and how it's progressed over the last 50 years.. Oh and I wouldn't personally put in Aretha's 'Respect', but it's been noted in many lists as an all time great.

This would just be my history of rock album. A Pop album would be completely different and include dance soul and disco tracks!
