Celine Dion is responsible for the world's worst cover song, according to music experts.

The Canadian singer received the ignominious title for her rendition of the AC/DC track You Shook Me All Night Long. Dion, 40, has never released the song as a single but performed the "musical offence" at a Las Vegas concert six years ago.

A Sugababes and Girls Aloud version of Walk This Way, which had been a huge hit for Aerosmith and rappers Run DMC, came second.

Westlife's 1999 cover of the ballad More Than Words by rock band Extreme was third in the list compiled by Total Guitar magazine.

Will Young's cover of The Doors' Light My Fire, which reached Number One in 2002, and an easy listening arrangement by The Mike Flowers Pops of Oasis ballad Wonderwall completes the top five.

Experts also delivered a verdict on the most successful cover versions.

Jimi Hendrix's cover of the Bob Dylan song All Along the Watchtower topped the list, followed by The Beatles' rendition of Twist and Shout, first recorded by the Top Notes.

The Guns N' Roses version of the Wings' song Live and Let Die, Nirvana's cover of The Man Who Sold the World by David Bowie, and Muse's Feeling Good, made famous by Nina Simone, are also in the top five.

Total Guitar magazine editor Stephen Lawson said: "Cover versions have never been bigger. Producer Mark Ronson became a household name on the back of his quirky covers album, with Amy Winehouse's version of Valerie outselling The Zutons' original.

"It's good to see that Hendrix still is Number One. The first time you hear All Along The Watchtower, with that heavy vibe, it sounds like it's from another planet. The number one worst cover song - Celine Dion covering AC/DC - is sacrilege."

there are far more worse covers out there than some of those on the list.

is there the list anywhere?...

oh lord, i agree celine dion is awful.

'all along the watchtower' was a brilliant cover, but i dont agree that mick ronsons version of 'valerie' is better then the zutons...

if it is the duet with Anastacia I thought it was a pretty good song especially Ana's singing

Anything Westlife or Atomic Kitten have done in terms of cover versions is on a different level of badness to You Shook Me All Night Long

This was Celine + Anastacia. :heehee: [Anastacia, who which pulled it off.]

I disagree, probably one of the worst ever Rock covers ever performed/recorded would have to be GA's + Sugababes 'Walk This Way', (it's fukking AWFUL!) and Shakira's cover of Back In Black.

I'm amazed Total Guitar didn't have Rolf's cover of Stairway to Heaven in the top 5.

Also, I don't like 'Under the Bridge' at all but what All Saints did to it was inexcusable.

i disagree, rolfs cover was so bad it was brilliant! its the biggest case of sacrilige ever ... i shouldnt have laughed out loud at it when i first heard it.... but i did!

Nope sorry, the "joke" wore very thin on that one.... It's just bad mate. A very good joke cover version is Sisters of Mercy's rendition of "Jolene", that IS funny.... And Toy Dolls' "Nelly The Elephant" is just a riot when you're pished and at a Punk Rock night out.....

Girls Aloud/Sugababes and Celine Dion's covers are of pretty much equal awfulness......

nah... rolf scores because his 'victim' was the 'classic' (and somewhat ott pretencious), stairway to heaven. the toy dolls only covered what was a kids novelty record, a bad one at that.

I wouldn't say that Stairway to Heaven was my fave Zep song (that would probably be something like "Kashmir", "When The Levee Breaks" or "In My Time Of Dying"), but I wouldn't say it was pretentious or OTT... It is a bloody good song... If Rolf had destroyed "Bohemian ©Rhapsody", then he would've gotten my entire support, that really IS a pretentious, awful piece of sh!t... He picked the wrong "classic" to take the p*** out of IMO...

Mind you Bad News (the fake metal band created by The Comic Strip team) did a great p***-take of "BoRap" back in the late-80s....

actually i think rolf DID cover bo-rap lol

but thats WHY rolfs stairway is so funny, because it shouldnt be! its the very fact that zeps stairway is such a good... a masterpiece, of music that makes it prime for riddicule and NOTHING should be above humour.

Rolf did give Bohemian Rhapsody the treatment as a single a few years later - but the joke had worn very thin by then.

Probably so thin, that my memory just blanked it out.....

Strange, cos I remember the Rik/Ade/Pete Richardson/Nige Planer 'Bad News' mickey-take so vividly..... Maybe that was the problem, Rolf just couldn't top it for sheer, unadulterated p***-ripping.....

I dont think GA/ Sugababes deserves to be there as there are much worse covers.

but you would say that if you like the sugababes and g/a.

I like both of them, and I'm finding it hard to think of worse cover versions than that one.

nice to see a sensible fan. i too like them, but no matter who they are, like them or not, everyone is capeable of making a c**p record.

I dont think GA/ Sugababes deserves to be there as there are much worse covers.

Yes it bloody does! It's a nasty piece of crap.

The Girls Aloud/Sugababes one is dreadful. Mariah & Westlife's 'Against All Odds' spared due to it being a cover of about the worst song of all time...
