don't know if there is an actual genre called 'the big music' - might have misread the chapter title in the post-punk book - but if there is...and if Coldplay are the new 00s [pre-MacPhisto-Zoo-TV] U2..would White Lies be equal to echo and the bunnymen if coldplay are a stadium sized U2? tho White Lies have also been compared in the press to sound-a-likes like unlucky ZTT-Stiff types Furniture and Roland "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooool" Orzabal de la Quintana of 'Starter For Ten'-soundtrack-period Tears For Fears - well before they became massive and turned into Panic at the disco...

 

 

on the other hand you could just try and see how much of 'this is how it feels to be lonely' by the inspiral carpets fits over the top of 'Unfinished Business' - i think it would work (tho I'm hoping this thread gets a few replies as this final comment might end up looking like a critique about the popularity of this White Lies band's thread :lol: :lol: )

The Big Music was a term specifically applied to The Waterboys and their music culminating in the 1985 album This is the Sea.

 

Personally I don't rate Unfinished Business that highly. Maybe I'll grow to like it but they have nothing on th Bunnymen at the moment. But then they have only released one single so far!

well tbh i havent read that chapter yet - '#23. glory boys' about echo + bunnymen, wahheat, teardrop explodes, blue orchids, waterboys, big country, simple minds and u2' - just looked at the beginning....

Yeah but the chapter headings in that book are more like a summary of what's coming up in that chapter.

Mmm...Unfinished Business sounds like a slower Editors. White Lies got great reviews for their NME New Music Tour. What about the others? Team Waterpolo and Friendly Fires are fantastic. Crystal Castles are pants - f I wanted to listen to a smashed up version of Super Mario then I'd get my broken nintendo out of the attic. Team Waterpolo and Friendly Fires still unsigned I think, which is mad. TW on a CD of unsigned bands called 'A Sketch For Summer', which is out on Cat something Records... CatCutter Records, that's it!?! Why are TW not signed when bands like Joe Lean and The Jing Jang Jong are? Grrr...

You what? Team Waterpolo are nothing like Franz Ferdinand! Not that Franz Ferdinand are terrible or anything. Problematic Girls is a great track. It's a B-side but it's on the compilation I mentioned. Go see www.catcutter.co.uk. Some other good bands on it as well like goFASTER>> and Turnpike Glow, both of whom are nothing like Franz either.

 

Why isn't Friendly Fires generating more chat? It's lovely and spacey and catchy and much better than a lot of dross at the moment. I'm glad they're signed.

Well for one i actually didn't say that Team Water Polo sound like Franz - i said it kinda "struck me as just a variation of what franz ferdinand does" - actually ref to the 'Do you wanna, do, do you wanna know?' and the 'Well do ya, do ya, do ya wanna, Well do ya, do ya, do ya wanna' - and seeing that i was sitting in my mums car listening to xfm - and seeing that daytime xfm mostly gets to the point where it all merges into one + with the traffic outside - think its a valid opinion for a song i heard only once some weeks ago...
