Speaking of the "only reserve for a week" thing. I think Addy! reserved a list of 10 artists on the 24th and the only thing he did about it since then was tell Mart!n he couldn't use Ace Of Base, so wouldn't that meant the week of reservation is up? Of course this could all depend on him telling Mart!n not to use them, he might have made an announcement otherwise.

Because you officially chose someone, your reservations for other artists stopped - otherwise somebody could just reserve every big artist at the beginning, choose one and nobody else could use them :P Who finished third for you? All I know is that Moloko is the other artist you can't use because somebody chose Roisin Murphy earlier on in the contest...

Yes, but he relinquished his reservation of her once he chose Ace of Base - otherwise somebody could just reserve every big artist at the beginning, choose one and nobody else could use them ;)

Ace of Base could, as far as I know, be used now because Addy! hasn't done anything with his NF for a week (I do need to check this though, so don't go doing anything official with that!) - all reservations are relinquished upon selection, so nothing can stop USJ using Kelly now :P

Essentially, the easiest way to prevent this sort of scenario is to go for the unknown artists! :P

The easiest way of stopping all this, is to open up the next Confirmed thread as soon as the last Song Contest finishes, and only once a country has confirmed their artist & song, then another country cannot choose that artist/song.

Mart!n can't use Kelly Clarkson, and he couldn't use Ace of Base at the time of confirmation...however, given that it has been a week and Addy! had done nothing with regards to his NF without announcing a reason for this (e.g. a holiday or something), Kylienips can send Ace of Base if they confirm now...although for reasons of etiquette I would advise using Alanis Morissette instead :P

Right look. It's a fair rule that your reservation of another artist (in this case, Kelly Clarkson) is void after you choose a definite artist (Ace of Base), but in this case Martin is not allowed to use Ace of Base for some reason, so surely he is still allowed to use Kelly Clarkson?

But the gap between contests is meant to be a few weeks or so and someone could confirm early and forget about the contest or people might get bored of the songs before the final or semi-final.

Fair point, but there are two disadvantages:

 

A - it doesn't take into account that people change their mind, so people could end up having to go with their second choice because of their preferred artist being chosenm, only then for someone to change their entry to something else

B - it doesn't take into account that people may be split - what's to stop somebody just pinching an artist that's popular in someone else's NF?

I always said it'd be a better idea to open another confirmation thread as soon as the contest is over :P

 

And Peter30, we can not take Kelly Clarkson away from USJ or we'll have the next withdrawal :(

Under normal circumstances yes - but that could set a dangerous precedent of tactical NF participation which would in effect ensure that reservations last for the whole contest as there could be a possibility that they have to fall back on something else, and I'm unwilling to bump someone off an artist who did wait until they were free :P

 

Anyway, I've concluded that Mart!n can use Ace of Base if he confirms NOW, but if Addy! comes back he may have something to say about it...and Mart!n, you have another WEEK to find a new artist/song (if you choose to ditch the other two possible candidates from your NF) - that's more than enough time! :P
