You may or may not disagree with my definition of obscure, so I agree it may be a little subjective here :heehee: Anyway, from this, I can deduce that your typical BJSC winner will be a mildly well-known female (what a surprise ) artist (someone who's had one hit in the UK, large success overseas or is well-known on BuzzJack) who is entering a song that is obscure (so probably wasn't released, or was released and flopped). However, seeing as many people will realistically be aiming for top 5, I can deduce that your typical top 5 artist will be female, obscure/upcoming and entering a song of the same category :funky:

Anybody else think they know what a possible recipe for success in this contest is? :o

I thought that And Then We Kiss was famous in the UK :o

No obscure artists have won then, it's interesting that only 6 "mildly well-known" artists have finished in the top 5, yet half of those were winners.

Upcoming can translate to obscure, and the Dixie Chicks are fairly obscure...and yes, all of the winning songs so far have been in English :P
What about nationalities? I know most of the winners have been American, but I don't know about top 5 finishes.

well TBH in the first two editions i had two top 5's (5th places actually) with non international artists with non english songs! Ayumi Hamasaki (in japanese) and Karolina (in macedonian)!

but since than the contest has changed :( :???:

everybody are going for the more well know artists with english songs...

Unfortunately Boyan, you came 6th in the first contest - Frahliso got more 12s than you :P

I'd actually go as far as saying that (discounting this contest) it was more common to use well-known artists in the earlier contests...

BJSC VII was excellent :D look, no well known songs in the top 5 :cheer:

in a nutshell, send a semi-famous/upcoming American female with an upcoming/unknown song and you'll have a good chance of winning!

did Sahlene receive more 12's than Jessica Garlick in ESC 2002? I'm sure she must have done, therefore by this ruling Jessica would have been 4th, not joint 3rd

when I last hosted I didn't use the more 12's rule, I just did tied positions...

but perhaps in BJSC8 I should use that rule, as everyone else since me has done

Good question :o

BJSC I

American - 3

British - 1

Macedonian - 1

BJSC II

British - 2

American - 1/2

Swedish - 1

Russian - 0/1 [Regina Spektor Russian, now naturalised citizen of USA]

BJSC III

Swedish - 2

American - 1

British - 1

Japanese - 1

BJSC IV

American - 3

British - 1

Russian - 1

BJSC V

British - 3

Russian - 1

Swedish - 1

BJSC VI

British - 4

American - 1

BJSC VII

American - 2/3

Norwegian - 1

Russian - 1

Hungarian - 0/1 [Linda Kiraly Hungarian, naturalised American]

Sweden and Russia are the most successful non-English speaking countries ^_^ I think it's a tie between British and American artists, if not it's very close...

In the last contest I did it by who got points off more countries before doing most 12s. I prefer the most 12s rule, but apparently they check who got votes from most countries first in Eurovision.

Well not any more, since everybody will be doing that now :P

Jessica did unfortunately finish fourth :( I like to think of it as joint third :kink:

For the first few contests it was more 12s, 10s etc., but as of BJSC VII we now use the more votes rule - on the basis that a song that is in more people's top tens is more popular than one with concentrated success.

I just browze through youtube when I'm looking for songs to enter(while the previous contest is still going) and if I hear something I like I wait a few days until It grows on me(or not) and decide wheater to enter it in a NF or put it straight in. I don't look on Myspace very much so I probably won't find any up and coming artists.

I'm not sure if I'll get the recipe for success soon. I'm getting a bit better at picking songs though......I think anyway.
