An OBE can be presented to anyone... I don't see the point... Madonna has been around for years and is 10 times better then Kylie

no not anyone it stands for Officer of the British Empire meaning you have to be from a country in the british empire, america is not. i am not saying that the only reason kylie got the OBE is for the cancer. i am sure your friend did all the charity work becasue of her experience and to do a good thing and that she is extremely appricieated. she did not do it for an OBE. the people who recieve obe's do so because the pepoe who decide who gets one believe that they deserve one. i agree that those people doing good things should get more recognition but sadly every person who does a great thing cant get one, its not kylie's fault but thats the way it is. whether your a singer, actor, doctor or soldier, you dont do what you do for getting rewards they do it because they want to. yes there are people who should get recognised but sadly not everyone can get an OBE or other such rewards. if the deciding people did not think kylie deserved the OBE then she would not have got one. end of stopry

About the OBE thing, honours can only be given to citizens of UK and Commonwealth countries (former British colonies, ie. Australia, Canada, India & some African countries). They are nothing to do with money or status, they are given to people who are judged to deserve them, whatever field they work in, and there are many 'ordinary' people who do recieve such awards, they just don't get the media attention that someone like Kylie does.

It's true there are many people who deserve one but haven't had one yet, as there is only a limited number available. But if someone truly deserves it, they might get one eventually.

And Alan Shearer does have an OBE also, for services to football presumably :lol:
