the government has rejected the idea of a mass cull of badgers, going against its own enquiries recomendations.

badgers are supposed to spread tb in cattle, and farmers have to slaughter infected beasts. the idea is that if theres no badgers, theres no tb.

tbh i think that its APPAULING that in this day and age such draconian measures are being considered. wouldnt it be sensible to innocculate cattle? surely it cant cost much more then gassing all the baders in areas of infection!

but hang the cost, its simply immoral to conduct such a task.

Does seem a bit over the top

I am all for culls of certain animals in terms of pest and population control but a mass cull of badgers does seem excessive and they are neither vermin or over populated

Vaccinating cows would be far more logical

From what I've heard today, it seems that scientists have said that even if there was to be an extensive cull of badgers, it would only go a small way to preventing cows getting TB and it would be a difficult job actually getting hold of the badgers. I agree that surely an innoculation of cows would be better if it was possible.

What do you expect...? Farmers like to shoot things, kill things, slaughter our country's wildlife for fukkin' spurious reasons, they seem to see it as their right or summat..... -_- These buggers are the reason wolves and bears were made extinct in this country, and then, oh look, now we have a FOX and BADGER problem.... Well, if your fukkin' ancestors hadn't shot all the wolves who were their natural predators..... Stupid, inbred w/ankers.....

They should just shut the fukk up and bloody well innoculate the cows, enough is enough.....

 i like it when scott gets a rant on , even though i dont quite agree with his points!

Dunno where you disagree mate... When we had wolves in this country, they would have kept the fox and badger numbers in check, being their natural predators and all, a lot of our problems with foxes and badgers being "vermin" stems from this fact.... Who killed the wolves...? A bunch of bloody Yokels and landowners who believed fairy tales abour wolves being "evil" when nothing could be further from the truth..... <_< Wolves are beautiful, intelligent and majestic animals with complex social and family structures, they are far from the mindless, savage beasts of nonsense tales like "Little Red Riding Hood".... Wolves are absolutely VITAL to any ecosphere, we did a lot of damage to ours by ridding ourselves of wolves (and bears for that matter), at least they live in harmony with nature, unlike us.....

The Native Americans understood this, they hold the Wolf in high regard....

they were hunted by everyone who was at the time subistance farmers, wolves were killed because they were predators on man as well as beast, in the anglo saxon chronicals there are numerous accounts of wolf fatalities.

the problem is that this island is way too small to support both human and large wild animals.. north america, canada, russia..yeah, plenty of wilderness, but not here.

in the anglo saxon chronicals there are numerous accounts of wolf fatalities.

I'm not convinced of that at all to be honest... It has been proven that wolves fear mankind, and would tend to flee man rather than confront him, they're not aggressive unless provoked.. I dont buy that they were ever a "threat" to mankind at all.... And, to be honest, WE encroached on THEIR territory in the first place dude, any such "attacks" would be purely defensive on the part of the wolf, not aggressive..... WE were a threat to THEM, not the other way round...

People lie mate, the wolf was used as a "scapegoat" for all sorts of sh!t, so easy to kill someone out in the woods and blame it on a "wolf attack", didn't exactly have forensic science to counter it, the wolf was a figure of ignorant hate and superstition..... Natural science has come along and debunked a hell of a lot of the nonsense talked about wolves.... For someone who is quick to correctly debunk the myths and nonsense written in the Bible I cant believe that you still believe this sort of rubbish man, just cos someone wrote it doesn't necessarily make it so, especially when the facts established by natural historians such as David Attenborough simply dont bear it out....
