It is now confirmed: the veil-le of its spectacle on the plains of Abraham, that is August 21st, Céline Dion will receive a doctorate of honor of the University Laval.

" We are still orchestrating the details of the ceremony, but the event is confirmed ", indicated to the Sun Martin Guay, of the direction of the public affairs of the University Laval.

In this year of the 400th, the institution had decided to aim at height by suggesting to five recognized personalities internationally receiving honorary doctorates. On the list beside Céline Dion: Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Al Gore and Oprah Winfrey.

At the moment, the only one Céline Dion agreed to receive this honor, while she will be of passage in the capital during very desired sound spectacle : on Plains, on August 22nd. According to the rules of the University, the recipient has to receive his doctorate in person.

The service of the protocol of the University Laval thus fusses to prepare the ceremony, in association with the team of Céline Dion, but it is still too much early to know details. Main rule, the highly formal event includes a parade of dignitaries, speeches of circumstance and a short speech of the recipient at the time of receiving its diploma. The event will take place on invitation only.

It is the vice-chancellor Denis Brière - to whom it was impossible to speak yesterday - who proposed the candidacy of the Quebecois diva. According to the procedure of selection of the candidates for the doctorate of honor, such a recognition is granted in one " nobody whom the brilliance is considered remarkable and exemplary in one of the spheres of activity of the University ".

In interview in the Sun in April, the vice-chancellor Brière asserted that the will to put to hand doctorates of honor to five big names was " exceptional for this year ", representing one of the contributions of the University to the Holidays of the 400th.

Since 1864, the Laval university awarded 1100 honorary diplomas. Among the recipients the most known for 10 years, notably let us mention Brian Mulroney, Julie Payette, Claude Ryan, Janette Bertrand.
