The prospect of British troops fighting in a Euro Army came a step closer yesterday as Foreign Secretary David Miliband threw his weight behind a French military blueprint.

He backed French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s scheme to beef up the European Union’s military structure.

His support means British soldiers could be handed to the EU and sent into action by EU generals.

Mr Miliband warned that without a Euro-force, the EU would always have to wait “impotently” for America to intervene in a crisis.

hmmm but what if the crisis was with a european country?..

tbh i think it makes far more sense then being americas lap dog. but who would run it? what would happen if a country didnt want to get involved? we europeans rarely agree.

Britain has contributed troops to UN forces such as K-For, I-For and so on, the example of Bosnia being one that springs to mind where UK troops were under UN control, so frankly I dont see why we shouldn't also do this... I think that an EU army would be a good idea to be honest, like Rob, I detest this country being America's lapdog we should be a lot more closer to our EU partners and distance ourselves from the US to a degree like the French do....
