Anybody seen this? It came out yesterday. It stars Jackie Chan and Jet Li but not so heavily as the promotion might make you think; Jet Li's role is actually not so large at all. It is an excellent film though. Fantastically shot and with some amazing casting, especially Li Bingbing as the white-haired witch.

I'll probably go and see this, but it does look a wee bit like a slightly Americanised version of a Zhiang Yimou film (Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower).. I love Jackie Chan and Jet Li though, truly they are supreme Martial Artists and utterly charismatic, and Chan's Buster Keaton-esque slapstick routines are just a joy to watch... You ever seen any of Chan's Hong Kong films...?

Bit disappointed by your report that Li doesn't play that big a role in the film.. I was rather hoping for a bit of heavy-duty Martial Arts mayhem between Chan and Li....

I laughed my f***ing ass off at this film. My cousin took the p*** out of it so much that i just had to  The last part where the chinese girl comes back (we watched this in Portugal but it was still in English) me and my english cousins all laughed at the cheesy lines

Yeah, it really was cheesy in parts. Especially the Golden Sparrow thing, my god :heehee: Not cheesy in the bad sense though, more in the cute sense. But that obviously won't be for all viewers...

Grimly, no I'm relatively new to this genre. It's just never appealed to me before but my friend wanted to see this with me and I'm glad I did because it was a really good watch. It's not hugely fight-heavy though, and other than for one five-minute scene there's no fighting between Li and Chan because they're on the same 'side', so to speak. :heehee: I don't want to say too much more in case you decide to go and see it...

I have to say, I saw the "twist" coming tbh..... It's a slightly better film than I'd thought, but it's not really on the same sort of plateau as stuff like "Curse of the Golden Flower", "Iron Monkey" or "House of Flying Daggers".... I still prefer much of Jackie's and Jet's HK stuff as well... The beginning and end parts in the "real" world are kinda irritating and cliched (and VERY "Karate Kid"...), but once you get into the "Forbidden Kingdom" itself, it takes off and gets better, Chan's and Li's characters are great...

I would recommend anyone who enjoyed this film to try out the following....

Iron Monkey (Jet Li)

Hero (Jet Li, Tony Leung)

House of Flying Daggers (Ziyi Zhang)

Curse of the Golden Flower (Gong Li)

The Warriors (Jet Li)

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Ziyi Zhang, Chow Yun Fat)

Police Story (Jackie Chan)

Armour of God (Jackie Chan)

Fearless (Jet Li)

Fist of Legend (Jet Li)
