Posted July 15, 200817 yr A performance of Don Black songs from musicals, etc. Gary performing amongst others. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/musicclub/event_donblack.shtml I'm really torn as to whether to go to this or not - we'll be in the South East that weekend and my little boy loves musicals .... oh I don't know what to do!!!! July 16, 200817 yr Author I'm afraid the lure of a 70 piece orchestra, loads of Bond themes in addition to To Sir With Love, Born Free, Out of Africa and Gary proved just too much temptation. Did something totally irrational and booked tickets! Norma
July 17, 200817 yr Author im not into musicals at all although my daughrter adore sthem I suppose its not musicals really (although one or two west-end ones will be featured somewhere) the guy wrote loads of theme songs - well the lyrics anyway (I suppose they're the easiest bits too!) Norma
August 23, 200816 yr Author Well I went to this last Sunday and it was fabulous. Mica Paris was excellent and Elkie Brooks was better than the last time I heard her. Lulu sang To Sir With Love. But Gary performing Born Free was the highlight! Sang it plain and simply. Sang it twice actually (the concert was being recorded for Radio 2 and there was a c**k up in the recording). No-one complained though (although it was a pity as I thought the first time he sang it - it was better). When the acts came onto the stage at the end though - Gary didn't join them (I think on the way in, his wife got jostled quite a bit - and some fans and Ebayers were just being a pain in the arse apparently - so they needed to get away from the theatre early to avoid a similar thing happening).
