Posted July 16, 200817 yr 'Ian Brown is stopping Stone Roses reunion' Mani says the rest of the band members are up for it Jul 15, 2008 Source: NME.com Former Stone Roses bassist Mani has said that the band would have reformed if frontman Ian Brown wasn't against the idea. The bassist, now playing with Primal Scream, revealed that guitarist John Squire, drummer Reni and himself would be up for a reunion. Speaking to BBC News, Mani explained: "I spoke to John and Reni about it a few years ago and they said they'd love to do it at some point in time, but Ian Brown seems dead set against it. "If he changes his mind then we'll probably do it, but then I'll be back to Primal Scream after the one year of doing it." The bassist continued to stress his total commitment to his current band, saying: "I think it's quite disrespectful to talk about The Stone Roses reforming when I'm having such a great time with the Scream." The Stone Roses split up in 1996 following their badly-received 1994 album 'The Second Coming', and Squire's subsequent departure in 1995.
July 16, 200817 yr Interesting...Ian should stop playing the songs in his own set then - probably shouldn't be profiting when he's against the idea.
July 16, 200817 yr Interesting...Ian should stop playing the songs in his own set then - probably shouldn't be profiting when he's against the idea. Nonsense... If he wrote the songs, then of course he should perform them if he wishes..... It wasn't the songs that split up the Roses anyway, there were so many factors in why things went t*ts up.... The departure of Reni was really the beginning of the end.... Then that disastrous Reading gig was just the final straw.... Mani aint exactly mad keen on the idea either tbh, his focus clearly is far more on Primal Scream... It's obvious to me that any Stone Roses "reunion" would be a totally half-hearted affair regardless, you've got Ian Brown totally opposed to the idea, you've got Mani sort of wanting to do it, but sort of not wanting to make it anything big.... Therefore, I reckon it shouldn't happen....
July 17, 200817 yr I wish his solo albums were up to par with the Stone Roses albums. He should look at Ashcroft and the Verve. Wish Ashcroft would have come to his senses 5 years ago!
July 17, 200817 yr I wish his solo albums were up to par with the Stone Roses albums. Nonsense... Ian Brown's solo stuff absolutely SH!TS on the absolute guff that was "Second Coming".... Okay, his solo stuff may not be quite as iconic as the first Roses album, but musically Brown solo is absolutely streets ahead of later Roses material, and John Squire's frankly laughable Dad Rock efforts with Seahorses..... Strange how it's the post-Roses underachievers such as Squire and Reni who want this "reunion" so badly, whereas Mani (who's enjoying success with Primal Scream) and Ian Brown (a successful Mercury and Brit-nominated Solo Artist...) are not so keen on the idea....
