kate bush is widely recognised ON HERE as our best ever creative female artiste..

however

babooshka is IMHO possibly her worst track. i much prefer 'breathing', which has depth, a vallied message, soul and meaning... 'wuthering heights' is my fav track of 78 and is possibly the best ever debut single by anyone.

I tried with a Bjork forum , it's going quite well :D

ADD A KATE BUSH ONEE!!

Kate Bush is a genius - end of.

But... Babooshka's certainly not one of her finer moments for me.

I heard this for the first time on Stars In Their Eyes and I've liked it ever since. I do prefer the tribute artist's version to hers though tbh :heehee:

Who the hell sung this that would make you like that version better?

I like her later albums more (from Hounds of Love to Aerial)

Babooshka is a quite strange song (esp. the funny chorus :D ), definitelly not her best...

If you want something really interesting I recommend you this song: Love & Anger:

PS the guitar player is David Gilmour of Pink Floyd B)

I too prefer "Running Up That Hill".

Good job you bigged up Kate Bush.

Slagging her off on this forum would be like treason!

I personally prefer Bjork... ^_^

Each to their own, after all a lot of Oasis fans don't like The Beatles.

But like Oasis worshipped The Beatles, Bjork worshipped Kate Bush and has frequently stated that she is her biggest musical influence.

Taken from the same album as Babooshka (Never For Ever - which was the first ever UK#1 album by a British female artist!) came this sublime track & performance:

Kate Bush - Delius (Sound Of The Summer)

Somehow I think Alison Goldfrapp has certainly seen this video.

Well I'm in the minority - Babooshka is one of my fave Kate Bush tracks, over Running Up That Hill I think. But Breathing is beautiful, and I agree with Rob that Wuthering Heights is one of the best tracks ever.

And Bjork is Icelandic, no?

If Kate Bush was current when I was growing up in the 90s and 00s, I would feel different about her but - to be honest - I only know the essentials when it comes to Kate.

My brother is quite a fan (or so he claims), and has leant me one of her albums.

I simply cannot connect to "good old fashioned rock n roll". I absolutely hate Oasis in every possible way, especially their more recent stuff. Liam Gallagher = gob$h!te.

Anyway...

Kate Bush and Bjork. I certainly see the influences, but both are completely different at the same time. Oasis are merely a recarnation of their Liverpudlian influences. Perhaps I'm just biased...

I love Kate Bush's stuff. And I'm surprised at the number of folk who don't think this is one of her best - because I really like this song. I remember asking my dad to buy this for me - and even he liked it. My cousin saw her live years ago and said she was absolutely brilliant in concert (late 70's - at best early 80's) and yet I don't think she has done many tours since (if any).

My personal favourite is Hounds Of Love - any song that can justifiably include the line 'It's in the trees .... it's coming' from the Jacques Tournier film Night of the Daemon has just got to be a classic.

She only toured the one time - so your cousin was pretty damn lucky to see her on her 1979 jaunt.

There's too many Bush classics to mention, really... my favourites being This Woman's Work, Under The Ivy, N T'enfuit Pas, Sunset, Nocturne, most of The Sensual World and Hounds of Love.... and on and on. In fact, the onl tracks I'm not keen on on Sensual Worl is the aforementioned Love and Anger (nice video, though) and, IMO, her most boring, humdrum, obvious song - 'Between a Man and a Woman'.

Interesting we see the Bjork comparisons...and, as thisipop quite rightly pointed out - Alison Goldfrapp, too, has cited that whilst her schholmates were off out clubbing and pubbing - she sat in her house on her own listening to Hounds of Love whilst on ecstasy.

Perfect combination, really, although some of The Ninth Wave could be a little scary on e :P
