October 1, 200816 yr Author Bizarre Will Young gets in the Groove POP Idol WILL YOUNG is getting his white gloves out for his next album. He has been working with top dance duo GROOVE ARMADA and hopes to release the fruits of their labour as a double album next year. Will, who is better known for his soulful sound than his club classics, is planning to fill half of the album with chill-out songs and pump up the volume with more upbeat house tracks for the rest of it. He said: “I’ve written so many dance songs, loads with the guys from Groove Armada. “But it’s just finding the avenue to get them out. “It’ll be interesting to see how people react. “I’m not afraid of trying different things.” Hmm...I’m slightly afraid of hearing the results though. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showb...icle1752790.ece Thanks to Julie. 1/10 Daily Star -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will Envies Chum Will Young wishes his career was on the rocks so he could do Strictly Come Dancing. The original Pop Idol is backing his old pal Racheal Stevens to win the latest series. And Will - whose new album Let It Go is hurtling towards the No. 2 spot in this weekends Top 40 - told me: "I absolutely love the show and almost wish my career was going in another direction so I got the call. I would do it in an instant. I love watching it before I go out on a Saturday night. Although I suppose its a good thing I havent been asked yet. Maybe in a few years time - if I take a break from music - I'll have time to do it. It looks like such a laugh. Racheal is doing great. She could win. I'm watching her with interest as we used to share the same management company". Dancing shoes aside, Will, 29, is now focusing on his current opus, which he admits is not as edgy as his previous offerings. He explained, "I've probably taken more risks in the past. On this album I wrote a sen minute balad with Nitin Sawney. I was a bit scared to do anything like that this time. The music industry is so volotile that I didn't want to do myself out of a job. I wanted to do lots of exciting things withing the boundaries of pop". But his next album will be a totally different kettle of fish. He revealed, "I'd love to do a double album next, maybe not as a main release but one with one CD of chilled songs and the other full on vocal house tracks." He added, "One thing I'm definately planning to do is record in Nashville. It's the centre of classic song writing. There might even be a country twant to the new stuff". Yee-ha! OK on the celebrity round up pages it has a piccy of smiley Will in a grey suit, black checked shirt and black tie Will Young Likes Being Papped When He Looks Fab! Although Will Young says he's happy that cameras don't follow him around constantly, he admits there's a side of him that enjoys the attention: "At my manager's office the other day there were loads of paps there for Victoria Beckham and I walked round 'cos I was wearing quite a fabulous outfit. I thought I'd get snapped wearing something nice for once rather than being locked out of my front door!" The singer, who has just released his new single Changes, also admits he loves the S Factor and is proud to have started his career on Pop Idol : "I'm really proud of it. I've never been ashamed of where I came from". Thanks to Ruthie.

October 2, 200816 yr Author From BBC website. Singer Will Young has been invited to appear on BBC political programme Question Time after saying he was a fan of the show. After revealing to Radio 5 Live's Simon Mayo that he would love to go on the show, programme editor Gill Penlington rang in to offer him an invitation. Penlington said she would be delighted to have Young on the show "at his nearest possible convenience". The 29-year-old singer has a politics degree from the University of Exeter. Young and Mayo had been discussing whether the singer had any plans to release a political song given his educational background. "I don't think so because I don't see myself as an expert - I'm just a singer," Young said. "Although I'd love to go on something like Question Time, I do have opinions on it, but that's not my job description." Fifteen minutes later, Penlington made the surprise call making the invitation. When asked how much she would pay Young for his appearance, Penlington said he would be paid "precisely zero" because of the credit crunch. The singer is currently promoting his new album, Let It Go. A full interview with Will Young will be published on the BBC News website on Friday 3 October. Somethig else to look forward to tomorrow.
October 2, 200816 yr Thanks TT, always expect the unexpected with Will eh? it's never boring when he's around that's for sure.
October 3, 200816 yr Author BBC interview. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7644806.stm Will Young: 'Fame's a bit stupid' Will Young has had four number ones since he started recording "Fame is weird and a bit stupid and can be quite funny," says Will Young sitting in the back room of a west London bar. It is now six years since the 29-year-old first hit the limelight, beating Gareth Gates to win the first series of TV talent show Pop Idol. He admits he used to watch re-runs of his TV win as he "could not believe he had a record deal". But despite becoming one of the UK's most popular recording artists - Young is now on his fourth album - he admits fame still baffles him. "It's nice to be known for, hopefully, being good at something, but people taking pictures of you and being in magazines is all a bit silly, really," he says. 'Free drinks' "There are some amazing things you can do with fame, like charity work," he adds. "I think, 'Brilliant - I'm going to use my fame to help people'. "Things like 'Will's wearing the wrong shoes', and 'Will's wearing the right shoes' is not so amazing, though. "I've had best dressed and worst dressed written next to the same picture." Despite that, Young admits he "loves the parties and the free drinks" that come with fame. The star has revealed he would love to perform on The X Factor Not that he lets it go to his head. The Berkshire boy is one of the few chart-topping pop stars who would start an interview by offering to buy drinks for his inquisitor. Young insists that keeping his feet firmly on the ground is the sensible thing to do. "Otherwise you're living this surreal, residual life that isn't you," he says. "To have people commenting on your life is so weird. The commentary can do your head in a bit. That's why people go potty. "Luckily I haven't because I've got a good therapist who has sorted my head out," he laughs. In an era when TV shows churn out winners to varying degrees of success, it's intriguing to find out what has kept one of the original reality stars in demand. "I just think it's about choices that you make," he says. "A lot of is luck - but I do think you can make your own luck. It's just the decisions that you make." Creative differences With the fifth series of The X Factor currently on ITV1 - another brainchild of record executive Simon Cowell - fans are eager to know whether Young will appear on the show. "Everyone's asking me this question," he notes. "Has this been in the press?" I think he's fabulous, he's like a dark knight. I really do think he's hysterical Will Young on Simon Cowell (pictured) "I don't think I'm big enough to be a mentor but I would like to perform on it," he says, then reconsiders. "I'd give my right arm to perform on it, actually. "There's not much choice to perform to a big audience on TV any more." Young and Cowell famously did not see eye-to-eye during Pop Idol.the singer stood up to the music mogul when an early performance was dismissed as "distinctly average". "You have projected insults throughout this show and it's been terrible to watch you," Young scolded politely. "You are entitled to your opinion - but I think I did very well." These days, however, Young admits he is a big fan of the music impresario. "I think he's fabulous, he's like a dark knight. I really do think he's hysterical. "I'm obsessed with the show - it makes me cry when they have their stories. I get completely suckered in." And if Young had not found fame in 2002, he admits X Factor fans would definitely have seen him appear in the series. Stage stint "If there wasn't anything else, then yes I would apply," he says. Having established himself firmly in the music industry, Young is now working on breaking further into the acting world. Young beat Gareth Gates in the 2002 Pop Idol final He appeared next to Dame Judi Dench in Mrs Henderson Presents in 2005 and last year starred in a production of Noel Coward's play The Vortex. However the brief stints on screen and stage have only whet his appetite. "I'm just waiting for the next audition," he says. "I don't get masses of them. I think people aren't sure if I'm taking it seriously. "It takes time, but I will continue to work at it because I want an acting career and I really enjoy it." But Young's plans go beyond the world of the performing arts. "I don't think men wear great suits, I'd quite like to design an affordable suit that's actually quite good, rather than these men who go to work and wear these over sized suits," he says. "I do feel quite passionate about that, rather than sticking my name to an aftershave. "I've got the tour, and I would like to do more surfing if I can get down to Cornwall. "And the rest is left to the wonderful surprises of life." Will Young's album Let It Go is out now on RCA. Still no mention of taking this album abroad. I wonder......
October 3, 200816 yr Author Thanks to Ros. Will Young is back with his fourth album, ‘Let It Go’, featuring the single ‘Changes’. The album will be supported by a UK tour throughout November and December. How was the Cadogan Hall gig last night? It was really good, thanks. They’re funny those things, I suppose they’re quite nerve-wracking. I’ve never done showcases before, it’s weird. It’s journalists and 500 fans, I should take them more seriously! My thing is that if I don’t think about it then I don’t get nervous! If I say it’s a showcase then I $h!t myself, so I just get on with it. Was last night the first time you’d played a lot of the new songs live in front of people? We’ve been doing the festivals, but it’s different going from the festival vibe to stuffy Cadogan Hall vibe. So that was kinda weird, cos I hadn’t done an indoor gig for… um, TEN YEARS! Um, no, I haven’t toured for almost three years. Have you missed touring during that time? No! I’ve been in the studio and I quite like that little bubble. As you get to the end you get bored and want to get out there again, but only towards the end of the album. I started the album in Brighton, and finished in Brighton, how weird! That was up from Kemp Town in… it’s opposite the nudist beach, that’s all I know! How have audiences been reacting to the new songs? I think it went alright, I mean, they didn’t throw things. I don’t know, how do you gauge it? I could really gauge it at festivals, cos people didn’t leave - that’s the more nerve-wracking thing about festivals. It’s a bit of a dangerous thing doing new songs – it’s that awful thing at festivals when someone goes “and now I’m going to do stuff from my NEW album” and you can practically hear everyone going “eugh, God”. I’ve never done it like this, performing new songs before the record’s out, it’s a proper old-school way of doing it which I’ve never done cos of the way I came into singing. I feel like the album’s been out for months. It’s out next week, thank God! Are you looking forward to the full tour starting in November? I am, I haven’t done a theatre tour for about five years. It’s nicer to do smaller gigs, it’s simpler and I think I’m more confident so I don’t feel like I need to have lots going on behind me. Have you got any onstage visuals or anything? I’m going to jet in! I’m going to bungee jump onto the stage! No, I haven’t actually, I don’t think it’s really needed. I prefer tiny tiny gigs. I try and do it as much as I can, though for some reason it seems to be more complicated, in the pop market you can’t just decide to do a gig, I don’t understand why! I now do acoustic gigs and I sing with a big band at Ronnie Scott's every few months and it makes me happier. Do you prefer being on tour or recording? It’s such a different performance, singing songs live compared to singing in the studio. Different mikes, different way of singing. In the studio it’s just me and the writer, and you don’t really have to sing out so much in the studio. I sing lazily in the studio I think – I can’t get away with it live! I find it hard to begin with on tour and also suddenly you have an audience which freaks you out a bit. I love the bubble and routine and creativity of recording. You can turn up and do anything, and you know where it comes from – it’s quite weird and quite cool at the same time. But then you do write the songs for an audience, so I don’t think I prefer one over the other. Who have you got supporting on the tour? I haven’t got supports acts at the moment actually! It’s a funny thing with support, you can either get a support act who give you money or you go with someone that you like. On the last theatre tour I had Rodrigo Y Gabriela, they were brilliant, and then I went to America four months ago and they had a massive advert on TV, so I thought that’s quite cool. So I haven’t made a decision yet, it’s going to be quite last minute, that’s not very professional is it! What should fans expect from ‘Let It Go’? It’s really hard, it’s one of those questions you get asked a lot - “how is this different from the last album?” – I normally just end up stealing people’s lines from reviews if they’re good, which they have been so far! I haven’t personally looked at reviews for four years, I haven’t read an interview for four years. I think I’m getting the best reviews I’ve ever got. But I think if you don’t want to believe the really bad reviews, then you shouldn’t believe the really good ones either. But yeah, it’s a hard one to answer, I guess I’ve kinda embraced pop. The producers you’ve worked with on the album - Freemasons, Matt Prime (who’s worked with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Jamelia), Eg White (Adele, Sam Sparro) – are all ones that most people would associate with pop… Yeah, people like Mike Spencer and Steve Lipson, but they’ve done quite interesting things. Steve’s like a second dad to me, he’s a bit of a legend, and he came from the Trevor Horn Art Of Noise thing – you know, Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Frankie Goes To Hollywood – so he’s always done pop, but he’s also done all the Annie Lennox albums, so he’s associated with quite interesting pop. Even people like Mike Spencer - he’s done Jamiroquai, but he’s also done Kylie and Alphabeat - hopefully it’s not like bubblegum pop, which I think is kinda dead anyway. What was Biff Stannard like to work with, who’s worked with Kylie and the Spice Girls? Biff lives in Brighton, we did a load together, we’re really good friends. The song that’s on the album he actually ended up producing, so all the songs we wrote together didn’t get on, which is a shame. They were really good songs, they just didn’t fit on the album. But it was a great way to get back into writing, it’s scary, it’s like starting a new book! Biff’s fantastic, he’s a complete laugh, so funny. He’s got a proper studio, I always feel like a proper writer and I’m in his studio. Where do you do most of your songwriting? Normally in the studio. I’ve got a little thing at home, but I’m so $h!t with computers. Actually, I set it up, then I had a leak so everything got bust and I haven’t set it up again yet. Before you began recording, had you worked on many new songs since the last album? Yeah, I always think you should do it the whole time, if I had the time now I’d still be writing. I’ve got all these songs that I keep on revisiting when it’s the right time. When you started working on the album did you have a wishlist of people you wanted to work with? I did actually, yeah. Did you get to work with most of them? Yeah, apart from Prince. Aim high! I really wanted to work with Greg Kirsten, who’s a friend of mine. He did The Bird And The Bee, you’ve got a check them out – there’s one song called ‘Will You Be My f***ing Boyfriend’, it’s hysterical. He’s done all the new Lily Allen album, so I was really pleased to get with him, but then it didn’t quite work out, which is quite often the way! Oh and I almost got to write with the Guillemots, but then it didn’t happen, cos of their album. I always think you don’t have to work with pop writers – that’s why I wrote with Sia, and I’ve done stuff with Nitin Sawhney and the guys from Groove Armada. Last album you bought: Joni Mitchell: ‘Court And Spark’. Last DVD you bought: Entourage: Season One. Last film you saw at the cinema: The Duchess – Ralph Fiennes is brilliant in it. Last gig you went to: Sia at V Festival. ‘Let It Go’ is released on 29th September 2008 by RCA Label Group. Interview held on 26th September 2008 in London. Written by Will Martin. http://www.lastbroadcast.co.uk/music/v/638...-interview.html Will's certainly done lots of interviews this time round.
