ART AGAINST KNIVES - 4TH MAY 2009

28 August 2008, a 15-year old assailant on Boundry Street, East London stabbed Oliver Hemsley, 20-year-old Central St.Martin’s College Student eight times in an unprovoked attack. Oliver narrowly escaped with his life and spent the next 134 days in intensive care, his spinal cord was partially severed leaving him paralysed never to walk again. Consequently Oliver will require constant medical support for the remainder of his life, the attack was an indiscriminate tragedy, which only serves to defy comprehension.

Out of darkness comes positive action, 'Art Against Knives' is an initiative based around Oli's love for art and draws public focus to the violence under our very own nose. The exhibition runs over two days and covers photography, fashion, fine art, illustration, sculpture and installation takes place at Shoreditch Town Hall and Shoreditch House all artwork is available for sale, with an auction taking place on the evening of the second day.

With a huge community of people coming forward to lend support, artists on board include Patrick Wolf, Vivienne Westwood, Wolfgang Tillmans, Antony Gormley, Rankin, Giles Deacon, Seb Chew, Aside, Reggie, Fern Cotton, Johnny Standing, Will Young, Russell and Ryan Styles, Eliza Doolittle, Johnny Woo, in conjunction with Central St.Martin's students who will be providing several pieces of artworks.

The exhibition runs on Monday 04 May 2009 at Shoreditch Town Hall, 10:00 - 21:00 free entry, with an exhibition of auctioned work on Tuesday 05 May 2009 at Shoreditch House 12:00 - 19:00 free entry, the auction to be held later that evening at Shoreditch House, £10, invite only

Me too, thanks for finding that BYM+Ms :D

With album sales down and probably less corporate work due to the recession, I think most singers are going to have to tour more.

Apart from 2004. when Will did 3 tours, he's only done two in the last 5 years hasn't he? I've been hoping that he'd do more live stuff, apart from festivals ;) so let's hope it's true.

Thanks to Vasil on D. Will at the Art Against Knives Charity Do. :D But the hair and the beard Will - they do nothing for you. Hope it was just a blip.

Thanks for bringing them over Chrysalis. I think he looks ok - I don't suppose he was feeling exactly 100% after his tonsil op and the others there don 't look like they dressed up either  - it wasn't a bling event - just a press day for the charity auction - it wasn't really about him.

Will Young: 'I forget lyrics and start making them up'

The Observer, Sunday 10 May 2009

Article history

Will Young in concert - Brighton Photograph: Gareth Fuller/PA

From as far back as I can remember, I always had a strong belief in singing. I didn't come from a family of singers, it was more of a personal crusade. If I'm not singing it feels like there's a limb that isn't working. Some days I wake up and I know instantly that it's a good singing day, and sometimes I don't feel like it. I'm quite bad with words. I can't mime because I forget the lyrics and I start making them up.

I have a problem singing first lines of songs and that's purely nerves. I've had to stop a couple times because I forgot my lyrics, one time at a small concert in Birmingham and another one in London when the words just went from me. I had to say sorry and start again. For the really big events, you pull it out of the bag because you have to. It's a sort of "do or die". But sometimes when you do smaller events, and you've not done one for a while, that's when the nerves hit you.

Normally, the words of the songs you know well are ingrained within you, and even though your conscious is saying "what's next?", you suddenly just remember them. You can't panic; you have to get on with it. So much of it is in the mind - it's funny really.

When you're younger, you're fearless. The stress in my mind has definitely become worse with age. When I get nervous, you can hear it in my voice, and that's when I start going off-key. My voice went a bit funny when I sang with Elton John, and in the first ever performance I did on Pop Idol I went out of tune.

In spite of the nerves, singing is definitely when I feel my happiest. It's such a wonderful feeling, although it's odd and instinctive. If I didn't have singing, I would be a completely lost individual. That's why I do it.

From tonights London Lite

"Will trains to get his vocals Wight"

Will Young is in intensive voice rehabilitation after having his tonsils removed. The singer told us at the Sony X series Walkman launch in Shoreditch last night "I had my tonsils taken out two and a half weeks ago. Its been so painful. I'm having singing lessons now, I had my first one today. Its like voice rehab. I basically have to learn to sing from scratch again. My first gig is the Isle of Wight and I'm bricking it. That's really all I'm focussing on at the moment.

Thanks to Florin on the OS.

More piccies from Trekstock: I don't believe that's his new b/f he's been seen with him and the girl(India Standing) a few times before.

I wonder what he (the new "bf") looks like when he smiles! Notice there are no cigarettes in his hands.

I think he is the new b/f munchkin.

I bet the girls are there as a smokescreen to take the heat off for a while when they're out in public together. :D

I'm not sure  but they do make a very handsome couple. The other guy looks like a model & is definitely Will's type. :) Guess time will tell.

Was thinking it was time he found someone else. He tends to have around 18 months betwen relationships. :)
