Thought about opening a thread for general discussion on The Beatles, where we could ask questions, post answers, leave comments, any kind of miscellaneous topics, etc.

Thought I would kick of with this one.......................

When I was younger I used to like this song a lot

10CC - Donna

Recently I was listening to Abbey Road and I heard this track

Oh Darling

The first few bars sound almost the same, plus a few bars sound the same throughout the song.

What do you think? Do you agree or am I just hearing things :D

No, I don't think you're imagining it at all, Brian. They definately sound very similar, only difference is the 'Oh Donna' is sung higher.

I've always thought that.

Like yourself I knew the 10cc track before the Abbey Road track.

Thinking visually I wonder where this video

WigWam - Wigwam

& this video:

U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name

got the idea from?

Obviously it was this video:

The Rutles - Get Up & Go

:D

Very good spot  , I was a big fan of the Ruttles, pity they broke up after just one album  .

Talking about pinching rifts from the Beatles, here's another one ;)

Jam - Start

Beatles - Taxman

That Weller  At least he readily admits it and rates the Beatles as one of his influences. I think McCartney has forgiven him as they have worked together since :D

^ Yes as part of the Smokin' Mojo Filters for the War Child Charity album:

Smokin' Mojo Filters (Weller, N Gallagher & MacCa) - Come Together

Paul Weller also had a very decent stab at covering this White Album track:

Paul Weller - Sexy Sadie

^ Yes as part of the Smokin' Mojo Filters for the War Child Charity album:

Smokin' Mojo Filters (Weller, N Gallagher & MacCa) - Come Together

Loved this track! May be a bit off on the timescale, but I think it was about this time that Weller was 'seeing' Mary, Paul's daughter.

Just read that there is talk of War Child bringing out a new compilation album and Paul's name has been mentioned.

I was listening to Humble Pie - Natural Born Boogie, and I am sure I heard a Beatles guitar riff, Not sure which song. At first I thought it was "Get Back", but I'm not sure. What do you think? Can you hear a bit of Beatles in this track, or is it me going senile

Listen at about 45 seconds in.

^ I name that riff:

The Beatles - Revolution

The riff is the lick at the end of each chorus.

Which reminds me of this ropey cover of the above song:

Thompson Twins - Revolution (1985)

I remember them playing it at Live Aid with Madonna as their guest vocalist......

....... Which reminds me of this crime against music.........

Madonna - Imagine

Revolution, that's the one :D . However, here's a question, which was released first, Humble Pie states August 1968, and the Beatles was 1968 as well, was it not, so who pinched it from who? Richard did you know the similarity of Humble Pie before or not?

I used to like the Thomson Twins, but not their version of Revolution, and I have been trying to forget their Live Aid performance of it ever since  .

Madonna singing Imagine :o yuch.

Although I have always liked the Beatles since I was knee high to a grasshopper :D, until recently the only albums I owned were on vinyl( would you believe), but this year I managed to get this Beatles Boxset with all their albums, in a presentation box, and booklet.

Humble Pie's single was a hit in August 1969.

They did not form until after the Small Faces split up on New Years Eve (Dec 31st) 1968, so obviously the Beatles were first.

Also the Humble Pie track was a basic rip off of Chuck Berry's Little Queenie........

As for your box set it is quite impressive, but I preferred buying the Beatles back catalogue in installments on CD in sales over a few years, as it is cheaper to do.

Funnily enough Sgt Peppers.... was the first CD I ever owned (I received for my 16th birthday when it was released in June 1987), something I have in common with ....... Noel Gallagher!

Noel Gallagher & Friends - All You Need Is Love (2000)

Noel Gallagher recentrly did a solo tour with Gem Archer, where they played several covers including a certain track "recorded" in 1995 of a 1978 John Lennon demo by the "Threatles" and produced by Jeff Lynne but was left off the Beatles Anthology 3 album.

Earlier this year this certain track leaked onto the net......

The Beatles - Now And Then

What do you think, because I prefer this to Free As A Bird & Real Love?

It's a grower, the more times you listen to it :)

Here are a couple of very clever yet highly amusing pieces of random Beatlesness:

Beatles parody from "Peter Serafinowicz Show"

John Lennon invented the iPod from "Peter Serafinowicz Show"

Do you remember watching this show on BBC2 last year?

Distributers and stores ban offensive Beatles parody cover

According to MTV.com, the new United Nations Side Project CD might not make it to stores. The cover of the CD uses the image of the Beatles' 1969 album Abbey Road, except in the United Nations version, all the Beatles are engulfed in flames.

Geoff Rickly, frontman of Punk group Thursday, said, "We've gotten some cease-and-desists. We worked with this British anarchist artist named James Cauty, and he did all this great stuff. But it had some copyright issues, and that's why all the distributors and stores refuse to carry it. We have 1,000 copies of this album sitting around with artwork that has been banned and we're trying to figure out what to do with those."

How about just destroying them? We're glad that responsible businesses have banned this CD, and sites like Amazon are not showing the cover image. In our opinion, this cover is offensive to the millions of Beatles fans all over the world, and it mocks what the Beatles stood for most, which was World Peace, and all you need is Love.

I remember when I was young hearing this little ditty to the tune of Star of Wonder etc etc.

“We four Beatles of Liverpool are John in a taxi George in a car Paul on a scooter tooting his hooter Following Ringo Starr”

But have found another set off words to it.

“We four Beatles of Liverpool are John in a taxi George in a car Paul on a bicycle Licking an icicle Following Ringo Starr”

Any other funny songs, lyrics to do with the Beatles that you know?

Well seeing what the time of year is:

Dora Bryan - All I Want For Christmas Is A Beatle (1963)
