August 16, 200816 yr 7th at the moment in the leader table- 7 Gold 3 Silver 7 Bronze 17 medals :w00t:
August 16, 200816 yr We may as well add a gold and a silver now as we've also got both finalists in the Women's Individual Pursuit.
August 16, 200816 yr A good day for Ecuador...We got our first medal, a silver one on the man walking race :w00t:
August 16, 200816 yr I feel sure we'll do well on the track tonight :) We may have a bit of a problem edging Jamaica, but I believe we can do it. :cheer:
August 17, 200816 yr Such a huge shame for Paula Radcliff. :( 23rd Place, and she looks pretty upset about it. Who cares, she's a legend. :D
August 17, 200816 yr Author Such a huge shame for Paula Radcliff. :( 23rd Place, and she looks pretty upset about it. Who cares, she's a legend. :D It looked like 2004 all over again at one moment though. Pleased she finished the race though, realistically she never had a chance of the medals after her injury.
August 17, 200816 yr erm.... grimly, tip, whilst i fully agree about china being unfit to host the games, they are doing it, and this is the sports forum. think those posts would be better suited to 'perspectives'. the argument about keeping politics and sport seperate is irrelevant now as the athletes/competitors are in action in china wether they should be or not. ignoring their achievements will do nothing. well done our medalists on super saturday! the cyclists, rowers, and adlington did a brilliant job. adlington MUST get 'sports personality of the year', who else in a gb shirt can win 2 gold medals and a world record? ..... usain bolt blew my mind.... in 30 years of watching athletics, ive NEVER seen such a convincing win in the 100m, a race that is notoriously a close finish. that bloke is a phenomina, i wouldnt be suprprised if his world record (s) stand for many years.
August 17, 200816 yr If you take away Phelps then we'd be ahead of the USA! We'll probably drop a lot now but still its amazing.
August 17, 200816 yr erm.... grimly, tip, whilst i fully agree about china being unfit to host the games, they are doing it, and this is the sports forum. think those posts would be better suited to 'perspectives'. I'm surprised at you of all people are saying something like this tbh.... These are related issues... "Undesirables" (ie, black immigrants and gay people) are being rounded up and interned because of the Olympics... The whole reason is to keep these "undesirables" off the streets lest they 'spoil' China's "perfect" games.... The farical Opening Ceremony as well, with the girl lip-synching and the kids supposedly representing China's ethnic make-up, but actually all being part of the same Chinese ethnic group - again, how is this NOT related to the Games themselves.... These games are a lie from beginning to end, and the athletes are part of the lie insofar as they are being used by the Chinese authorities as propaganda tools.... Their achievments are tainted by the fact that they are being used as tools.... Once they see the truth of what's really going on (because, let's face it, they're probably being shielded from all these stories and are having the truth kept from them while they're there...), I wouldn't be at all surprised if many of them seriously considered handing their medals back or chucking them in the nearest bin... I know I would..... I honestly dont know how you people can just sit and mindlessly enjoy this disgusting spectacle knowing what it's costing the ordinary person in China whether indigenous Chinese or immigrant....
August 17, 200816 yr It looked like 2004 all over again at one moment though. Pleased she finished the race though, realistically she never had a chance of the medals after her injury. Yeah and I know, I was glad she still pulled through. And like I said, you just can't put down Paula Radcliff. :P usain bolt blew my mind.... in 30 years of watching athletics, ive NEVER seen such a convincing win in the 100m, a race that is notoriously a close finish. that bloke is a phenomina, i wouldnt be suprprised if his world record (s) stand for many years. I loved the way he ran that. With such ease, he smashed the record and won the race without even trying, and you could so see that.
August 17, 200816 yr I loved the way he ran that. With such ease, he smashed the record and won the race without even trying, and you could so see that. Sounds to me like they should be p!ss-testing this bloke..... -_- I remember another athlete who smashed the world record with a similar consummate ease - his name was Ben Johnson....
August 17, 200816 yr Sounds to me like they should be p!ss-testing this bloke..... -_- I remember another athlete who smashed the world record with a similar consummate ease - his name was Ben Johnson.... Why are you so skeptical on everything? Of course they're gonna test him. He's probably been tested 20 times already, whether he is using a drug that the officials can't detect is another matter but still i serious doubt he has used regognised drugs.
August 17, 200816 yr Sounds to me like they should be p!ss-testing this bloke..... -_- I remember another athlete who smashed the world record with a similar consummate ease - his name was Ben Johnson.... If he was using something, he would of been found or picked up on something, quite a few Athletes have been banned recently from using substances anyway. But still, well done to him; 100-meters in 9.69 seconds. :o And also to Phelps who now has something like 14 Gold Medals. (overall)
August 17, 200816 yr Author Bolt looked amazing yesterday. He won it with such ease, and he didn't even have that great a start either. Of course all the athletes will be p*** tested though... after all that's happened over the past year or so with drugs in athletics then of course they're gonna be sceptical. But Bolt never looked in doubt of winning the 100m from the moment he began the heats.
August 17, 200816 yr Serbia were sooooo close to Phelps. He nearly didn't make 8 gold medals then. It would have been amazing (for some people obviously) for someone to deny Phelps 8 golds. Yes, that would be a big celebration in here, but we are more then happy anyway! :yahoo: Čavić was in line with Phelps at the end and people will talk and talk was it all regular for some time for sure, but what can we do? Anything. Phelps won 8 gold medals. Congrats to him. Yeah I agree. But the difference between Phelps and the Serbian guy was Phelps had it in him at the end. The Serbian guy thought he'd one the race, and was just calmly reaching for the finish line, whereas Phelps knew he was getting beat and went straight for it at the end - was a brilliant race anyway. Yes, Phelps had to watch at Čavić's back for big time of the race. That's probably because Čavić is the best on 50 meters butterfly, but that discipline isn't on Olympic. Anyway, he's first in that in Europe and he won new Europe record for 100 meters in Beijing. I loved the way he ran that. With such ease, he smashed the record and won the race without even trying, and you could so see that. Exactly! :w00t: I still can't believe he can be that faster then others, he found time to celebrate while he was still running! :o
August 17, 200816 yr I love Bolt  I couldn't believe my eyes! I've never seen anyone run like that! Imagine what he could have done if he hadn't slowed down and started partying :o oh and I watched Galkina-Samitova run today :o she was ahead of the crowd from the start!!! Amazing  and yaaayy for our Filip Ude  :yahoo: Can't believe what he's achieved after working in that poor conditions for such a long time!!!! Croatian flag right under the Chinese flag in Gymnastics!!!! :yahoo:
August 17, 200816 yr Something to watch for fun... xG0KSEDgoQA In my opinion, you can watch this million times and you won't be 100% sure who won. The best decision would be that they gave two gold medals.
August 17, 200816 yr Something to watch for fun... xG0KSEDgoQA In my opinion, you can watch this million times and you won't be 100% sure who won. The best decision would be that they gave two gold medals. They both swam at so similar speeds, yet i'm sure at the end on those shots Phelps was moving 20 times faster (well his arms anyway) :P
