Dixieland Delight FTD component released:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/cd_dd_cd_credit.jpg

On May 18, 2009 the latest “Follow That Dream" release - a 2-CD set titled 'Dixieland Delight' - has seen the light of day and is available now at your local Elvis dealer. For the first time ever, Elvis' official record label is supporting and cooperating with another company, which is well-known for delivering high-quality Elvis products. Because of this cooperation, the team of Bud Glass Productions and Praytome Publishing feels very honored.

The cooperation takes place in different areas of the product. The main topic for both the FTD-release and the Multimedia-Box set concerns the five consecutive performances of Elvis in Huntsville, AL, in 1975.

On May 15th, the official press release by Praytome Publishing announced the concept of the box set, and details were revealed about the content.

One of the highlights will be an extraordinary three-hour documentary with more than twenty interviewees - all of them original eyewitnesses to the shows. Also, dozens of high quality photos, as well as memorabilia and ticket stubs will be presented in a special hardcover book. Wait! There is more to discover in that box set....

To give the fans nowadays an idea of what the shows were like, the best idea is to provide them audio recordings of the performances. 'Follow That Dream', also known as FTD, liked the idea to dignify these special shows with an extra release. Soon after, the decision was made to release two shows from the Huntsville gigs (Matinee Show May 31, 1975 + Matinee Show June 1, 1975). Because the producers wanted to use all the space on the CD’s, the remaining free space was filled up with additional bonus songs from the other Huntsville shows.

When you have a see the design of the FTD package, you will quickly notice that the cooperation is clearly evident. FTD not only decided to adapt "Dixieland Delight" as the title – an original Bud Glass concept from the very beginning design for the book cover; but FTD also adapted the front cover shot of the "Dixieland Delight" book, a great shot taken by George Hill during the Matinee Show of May 31, 1975.

It's worth mentioning that this is the very first five-inch FTD release that comes with an exclusive eight-page booklet. All of the photos, tickets and memorabilia items you will find in the booklet were provided by Bud Glass Productions / Praytome Publishing. The detailed liner notes were written by Bud Glass, the author of “Dixieland Delight” and previous releases like Elvis – “Behind The Image” and “Elvis - Born To Rock”.

The package for the FTD release is really something special - not only because of the fresh artwork and classy design, but also for being a 2-CD set with an exclusive eight-page booklet. By creating this very special product, FTD producers, Ernst Jorgensen and Roger Semon, have set the tone that the five consecutive performances of Elvis Presley in Huntsville deserve very special treatment.

A special note on the inlay reads: "In cooperation with Bud Glass Productions and Praytome Publishing for their up-coming multi-media box set: DIXIELAND DELIGHT"

As the official press release states, there will be a special placeholder where you can put your FTD release inside of the Multimedia box. That is the right place to be for the FTD! Do not hesitate any longer! Ask your local dealer for the new FTD release, so that you will have the first collectible item - the "Dixieland Delight" 2CD Set - for the upcoming Multimedia box by Bud Glass Productions and Praytome Publishing.

From Elvis In Memphis Re-issue - Update

In January & February 1969, Elvis entered the 'American Sound Studios' in Memphis and went

on to record some of his greatest work. Sony Music will release a deluxe version of "From Elvis In Memphis" to commemorate the anniversary of these recordings. This re-issue will include all 32 masters recorded at these sessions. The recordings have been remastered from the original album masters for optimum sound quality.

Ernst Jorensen said to Elvis Unlimited that the idea for this re-issue is a deluxe boxset type with a nice booklet and maybe even a DVD. This release will not be released on the Follow That Dream collector's label but globally on the SONY / BMG label.

Update May 21, 2009:

EPE posted the following update on their site:

To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Elvis' historic American Studio session that resulted in "Suspicious Minds," "In the Ghetto" and "Kentucky Rain" among many others, Sony Music will release a deluxe version of From Elvis In Memphis, including all the 32 masters recorded at these sessions. These recordings have been remastered from the original album masters for optimum sound quality. More details on the release to come.

In honor of the anniversary and release, The Memphis Boys, who played with Elvis on the historic session, and joined by Ernst Jorgensen, will be on stage at Conversation on Elvis to share their memories of what went on during this amazing session.

The Memphis Boys, Bobby Emmons, Bobby Wood, Gene Chrisman, Mike Leech and Reggie Young, are a rhythm section whose professional careers began in and around Memphis in the early sixties. They played on more hit recordings at that time during a six month period than any other studio rhythm section in history, according to Billboard Magazine. They also played on Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind," B.J. Thomas' "Hooked on a Feeling," Herbie Mannand's "Memphis Underground" and Billy Swan's "I Can Help." For complete bios on all The Memphis Boys, visit their site.

Producer and catalog expert Ernst Jorgensen has been instrumental in the revival of Elvis Presley’s body of recordings for more than a decade; the box sets he co-produced for RCA, including The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, From Nashville to Memphis, Walk a Mile in My Shoes, and Platinum: A Life in Music, have been nominated for Grammy Awards and have sold well over a million copies. He is also author of the definitive account of Elvis’ recording sessions, Elvis Presley: A Life in Music. Ernst is instrumental in the development of each release on the Follow That Dream label.

From Wikipedia:

From Elvis in Memphis is the thirty-fourth album, not counting budget compilations on the RCA Camden subsidiary, by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Records, LSP 4155, in June 1969. Recorded at American Sound Studios in Memphis, it peaked at #13 on the Billboard 200, and is considered by many critics to be his best album. In 2003, the album was ranked number 190 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Many of the songs recorded at American by Presley derived from the country and western repertoire, such as the 1962 hit "It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin'" by Johnny Tillotson, Hank Snow's #1 country smash in 1950, "I'm Movin' On," and Eddy Arnold's 1947 chestnut, "I'll Hold You In My Heart." Even the more modern, late sixties country approach in "Gentle On My Mind" found a place. By including these songs, along with contemporary soul such as Jerry Butler's recent "Only the Strong Survive," like Ray Charles earlier in the decade with Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, Presley reinforced the musical links between country and rhythm and blues.

Chuck Jackson had sung the original Top 40 version of "Any Day Now" by Burt Bacharach in 1962, and future country singer and 1970s television star Mac Davis provided "In the Ghetto," Presley's stab at a message or protest song aligned with the times. Released as the lead single on April 14, two months before the album hit the stores, it went to #3 on the singles chart, and provided another break with his public image as cultivated by the escapist fare of his sixties film career.

The reissue of May 16, 2000, includes six tracks released as either A or b sides recorded at the same sessions for the album. "Don't Cry Daddy," also by Davis, and "Kentucky Rain" were both sizeable hits in 1970, but "Suspicious Minds" became one of Presley's signature tunes, and gave him the final chart-topper of his career as the decade came to a close.

Wanted: Remembrances of encounters with Elvis....

Legacy Project records interviews for Graceland archives: John "Bull" Bramlett would go on to become a professional football player, but in the early 1950s, he was part of the ragtag team that played touch football near Lauderdale Courts housing project with Elvis Presley as a teammate.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/football.jpg

Elvis Presley, playing touch football at the Dave Wells Community Center on Dec. 27, 1956, enjoyed sports but according to friend John Bramlett, Elvis was a better at making music than touchdowns.

Bramlett, 67, was six years younger than Elvis, who called him "Little Bramlett." He sometimes had to stand on the sidelines and watch, but when the older boys needed an extra player, he says, "They'd bang me around just like they did everybody else."

It's part of the story Bramlett tells as part of the "Elvis Presley Legacy Project," in which Graceland is inviting those who knew or met Elvis to tell about their encounters in taped interviews to be included in Graceland's archives. Graceland will videotape other stories from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 12 and 13 at the East Memphis Hilton.

Bramlett was invited to tell his story ahead of time along with a few other high-profile Memphians, including former Elvis girlfriend Dixie Locke Emmons, who met Elvis at her church, First Assembly of God. The interviews, designed to promote the 75th Elvis birthday celebrations in January, tend toward a certain reverence, although off-camera, Bramlett adds a few details that won't make it into the Graceland archives.

Elvis was a "great guy," he says, but he was not destined for sports. "He was just an average athlete. I thought he kind of ran like a girl. It was just a funny way that he ran."

While Elvis went on to musical immortality, Bramlett became a celebrity in his own right. He was an All-State and All-American high school football player at Humes High School and an honorable mention All-American at Memphis State University.

From 1965 to 1971, he played for the Denver Broncos, the Miami Dolphins, the Boston Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. Bramlett says alcohol and drugs helped fuel his reputation as "the meanest man in football," until he "met Jesus in 1973." It was a conversion that led Bramlett to begin his own lay ministry. He now ministers in prisons and to sports groups, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, NFL clubs and NASCAR chapel services.

And he can tell about knowing Elvis before and after he became famous.

Bramlett was with Elvis in 1954 at the old Suzore Theater when Elvis' mother, Gladys, came to the theater to tell him that his record, "That's All Right," was being played over and over on WHBQ Radio.

Within three years Elvis had his first RCA hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," and a new home at Graceland. It was soon after the move to Graceland, Bramlett says, that Elvis pulled up alongside him at a red light. He heard a familiar voice yell, "Hey, Little Bramlett." Bramlett says he had to look closely before recognizing Elvis in an old white van and wearing a floppy hat to disguise himself so that he could go out in public.

When Bramlett called out, "Elvis," Presley motioned for him to keep quiet, then drove away.

Breathtaking Elvis and Colonel Parker wall!:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/colonel_parker_wall.jpg

Talking of a real eye catcher! How about this huge Elvis & Colonel Parker Wall? With help of a specialized company, we will transform the large wall of the exhibition room to a gigantic picture wall.

This picture simulation by Robert Aarts gives a good idea, but actually seeing Elvis more than life size is just unbelievable! It will blow you away, just as it did us when we saw the first presentation.

Info:

• Free

• June 25, 26, 27, 28 (evening and night)

• Outside of the Holland Casino (Kloosterplein 20, Breda)

(News, Source: www.elvismatters.be /www.epgold.com)

I know this is all to do with the Colonel celebrations, but I have to admit, I'd prefer a huge wall with just Elvis on it ;) In fact, are there any artists out there, who could paint a huge Elvis on the front of my house :yahoo: Preferably wearing that black leather suit

Harold Newton, Elvis photographer, died;

Elvis Images in Concert reports that Harold Newton passed away peacefully June 10, 2009. Harold is well known in the Elvis World for the numerous concert photos he shot of Elvis in the 70's. During Elvis Week, he would sell his prints at the Memorabilia Convention and was always proud to talk to anyone about his experiences of seeing Elvis in concert and taking the amazing photos that he shot.

In his final days he was surrounded by family while Elvis music was playing. Newton was also well known by members of the U.S. Border Patrol as his brother was a Border Patrol Agent who was killed in the line of duty in 1967. Since his brother's tragic death he has been a devoted advocate for the Border Patrol and its' Agents. He continuously sought for improvements to the Border Patrol so future Agents would be better protected.

No funeral plans have been made at this time, but he is to be laid to rest in his Family plot in Tacoma, WA

This is very sad news. RIP Harold :(

Like Elvis, Michael Jackson was a troubled king;

Michael Jackson didn't want to be just a superstar. Like the Beatles, he wanted to be the biggest, the undisputed king. He wanted to topple the reigning man with the crown, Elvis.

In the end, Jackson came to resemble Elvis in both the best and worst ways - supremely gifted and successful but also self-destructive and beset by demons. And like Elvis, he died way too young.

"It's just so weird. He even married Elvis' daughter," said author-music critic Greil Marcus, who wrote at length about Presley in his acclaimed cultural history, Mystery Train.

Elvis Presley died a over-weight middle-aged man after overdosing on prescription drugs at home in 1977 at age 42.

Michael Jackson died on Thursday at age 50 after being rushed from his Los Angeles home to UCLA Medical Centre.

Jackson was taking prescription drugs as he battled to get into shape for his gruelling concert comeback due to get underway in London next month, a lawyer for the family said on Thursday.

Jackson, like Elvis, fought long-running battles with prescription medication throughout his career, and was taking the drugs after suffering injuries during training for his comeback, lawyer and spokesman Brian Oxman said.

While endless fame seemed to inflate Elvis like helium, Jackson's fame seemed to scrub away the flesh from his bones.

Like Elvis, Jackson was once beautiful, outrageous, a revolutionary without politics, who broke down the walls between black and white. He had the hits, the style, the ego, the talent.

He was the "King of Pop," and he needed only to fill in the life: He married Elvis' daughter. He bought the rights to some of Elvis' songs.

Elvis owned Graceland, its name a symbol for a deliverance the singer prayed for until the end of his life.

Jackson had Neverland, a fantasy for a man-child for whom money provided the chance to live in a world of his own.

He did, and did not, want to be like Elvis.

In Moon Walk, a memoir published in 1988, Jackson insisted Elvis was not important to him growing up and that he was unhappy to learn a song he recorded with his brothers, Heartbreak Hotel, shared the name of Presley's first national hit.

"I swear that was a phrase that came out of my head, and I wasn't thinking of any other song when I wrote it," Michael Jackson wrote.

"The record company printed it on the cover as This Place Hotel, because of the Elvis Presley connection. As important as Elvis was to music, black as well as white, he just wasn't an influence on me. I guess he was too early for me. Maybe it was timing more than anything else.

By the time our song had come out, people thought that if I kept living in seclusion the way I was, I might die the way he did. The parallels aren't there as far as I'm concerned, and I was never much for scare tactics.

Still, the way Elvis destroyed himself interests me because I don't ever want to walk those grounds myself."

Sadly Michael Jackson like Elvis ended up walking that lonely street to his too early demise.

Interesting article! Have to say that I've noticed a few parellels between Michael Jackson's death and Elvis'. Always sad when someone as young as Michael dies :(

Parallels in lives, deaths of Michael Jackson and Elvis - But Presley's path was trailblazing

The passing of Michael Jackson on Thursday afternoon reignited the occasional debate between Michael Jackson, the 'King of Pop' and Elvis Presley, 'The King' of rock and roll'. Presley's was a trailblazing path'. Where Elvis co-created a musical art form, Michael largely built on one. Where Elvis changed sexual mores in the conservative wake of World War II, Michael only made shocking crotch-grabbing movements. And where Elvis, expanding on James Dean's work, harnessed a burgeoning youth culture, Michael only drew more attention to it', says Nash'. He did it brilliantly ... but his cultural impact pales in comparison to Presley's'.

Sad news from ElvisNews.Com :( I have used this site a lot the last few years so I shall be sorry to see it go.

The Final Curtain

Just weeks before our 10th anniversary we decided to call it a day and stop with ElvisNews.com. We have done it for nearly a decade now, most of the time with a lot of pleasure, but lately it started to feel more like a job than a hobby.

When this site started almost 10 years ago news on our man was scattered all over the World Wide Web. As a fan you needed to browse through a long list of favourites to collect all of it. Wouldn’t it be nice when you could find it all, or at least most of it, on one site? Looking back we can say we succeeded, but with one big minor; we still had to browse all those other sites to collect the updates for ElvisNews.com. The hobby became a daily job.

Last year we reached this point too, but with some good agreements and time management we decided to give it another try and at least complete the 10 years. Unfortunately that won’t happen. As you might have noticed our hosting service is acting pretty poor lately and since our contract with them will be done in August, we could move to another hosting service. The lack of pleasure we have in this job/hobby lately and the duties we have elsewhere made us decide not to make such an investment.

Oddly enough Michael Jackson’s premature passing took away the last doubts. Both of us were annoyed by a lot of the comments made and almost ashamed we are Elvis fans too. One was so irritated he decided to ignore our own rules and make up some new ones. The other got irritated by that, since to him freedom of speech is more important than disgraceful content on the site. Last but not least our regular moderator quit because of broken agreements, resulting in a mess within days.

We give this background information just to show the limit is really reached. Probably you understand the site is not worth to risk a long time friendship.

We are very grateful for the support we got this last decade, the friends we made and the satisfaction the site gave us over the years. Probably we’ll meet somewhere (around on the internet) in the future, since Elvis will never let go on us.

Thankyouverymuch!

Adios, we bid you a passionate farewell!

Filming of Bubba Nosferatu to start by end of 2009:

In a recent interview with Fangoria Radio Ron Perlman (Hellboy) gave listeners a pretty big update on the status of Bubba Nosferatu, the sequel to Don Coscarelli’s the brilliant and inspired Bubba Ho-tep. Perlman will be taking over the part of Elvis Presley. The rhinestone jumpsuit was previously worn by veteran B-movie actor Bruce Campbell.

According to Perlman, filming has been tentatively scheduled to start before the end of this year. Perlman told Fangoria, “Well, I have this window that’s about to open…I’ll be done shooting [his cable series] Sons Of Anarchy in September, and we’re hoping to get into production on Bubba in my hiatus between seasons two and three.” Perlman added that he has spoken with both director Coscarelli and co-star Paul Giamatti (Giamatti is set to play Elvis’ infamous manager, Colonel Tom Parker) and everyone is keen to get the ball rolling.

Additionally, according to Fangoria, Angus Scrimm (Phantasm) has been added to the cast. Scrimm will “play a Boris Karloff-like horror star who Elvis meets up with (pre-Ho-tep) in Las Vegas on the set of a vampire movie.”

Planning for Bubba Nosferatu has been going on since the release of Bubba Ho-tep in 2002. The growing anticipation only adds to the pile of concerns many fans have for the next installment of Elvis fighting the supernatural. There is no doubt that Perlman is a great actor, but can he capture the essence of Elvis that Bruce Campbell managed to exude in the first film? Audiences will just have to wait and see.
