Children who are unsure which sex they are could have their puberty suspended to make later sex change operations easier.

The influential Sexual Orientation and Gender Advisory Group wants the Department of Health to allow anti-hormone drugs to be prescribed to children as young as eight with gender problems.

 

Under existing regulations doctors are not allowed to treat children who want to change sex until they reach 16.

 

However, an increasing number of experts believe this is “too late” for those who later want a sex change operation as many of the changes that happen during adolescence will have already taken place.

 

The Royal College of Medicine has called an international conference on the subject in October and next month Imperial College London will hold a debate.

Agreed! I know some of those who have gone on to have a sex change have said that they knew at an early age that they were the wrong sex, but I honestly believe that under 16s are too young to make such a life changing decision to be given anti-hormone drugs.

But by the time they're 16 it'd be too late for them to be convincing as the opposite gender. A boy will have a deep voice, stubble, adams apple and a girl will have curvy thighs. breasts etc. by the time they're 16 though men who used to be women are far more convincing considering when they get male hormones their voice lowers, facial and body hair appears and their bones in their face get thicker giving them a masculine look meanwhile things like a deep voice cannot be reversed. But my point is that many young children have huge psycholigical problems because of being the wrong sex and some changes they go during puberty are irreversible.

 

Though males who think they are females outnumber the number of females who want to be males by 5 to 1.

I think when you have incredibly obvious cases of Gender Confusion and Androgeny (such as that incredibly androgenous kid on telly who was the antiques expert, forget the name, but HE became a SHE, and it didn't exactly bloody surprise me tbh, it was glaringly fukkin' obvious... and I somehow very much doubt he/she is a totally unique case in the slightest, but by the same token they're probably aint many such obvious cases....) then I dont really see why not... As long as the parents consent to it, and the child is very obviously troubled by their own gender identity... The Age of Consent is there for the purposes of the SEXUAL ACT itself, gender confusion is entirely a different matter, and something that can affect 8 or 9 year olds, well before puberty.... I think if it's proven that Gender Reassignment can be made easier and all parties concerned are on board with it, then who the fukk is ANYONE to say that it shouldn't be done....? Denying kids this surgery purely because of other people's hang-ups is (which is what these objections to it are in my view..), in my view, totally wrong....

 

You're not talking about very many cases here, probably a handful a year at best... No one's talking about "turning" every kid who plays "dress-up" in mum or dad's clothes here...

It´s just ridiculous that people think of the psycological suffering of a kid who feels like being from the oposite sex, yet they think there is no problem is "suspending" puberty until they´re 17... Hell, ya, a 17 year old person who has NOT passed trough puberty is surely going to have a very nice life in HighSchool... It´s bloody pathetic to talk about gender as being like a style of clothes you choses and/or change whenever you want. You are just born with it, just accept... I would like to be a few pounds bigger, to weight a bit less, to have blue eyes, etc... I just have to accept myself the way I was f***ing born. It´s sickening that these news encourage people to go trough surgery to change their physical characteristics instead of working out to accept themselves the way they are. And IMO it should be criminal to even consider sex change surgeries to children or adolescents... what happens if when I´m adult I want my pen*s back??? No you can´t just take it off and put it again whenever you want, like a plastic doll. So just let the people grow up until they become adult enough to consciently decide to mutilate themselves. Hell, don´t even talk about the suffering of these kids on school... they´re obviously going to suffer 100 times more by being a 16 years old adolescent with the voice of a 5 years old kid... or being pointed by kids in the school as the one who got his pen*s mutilated. Obviously this doesn´t apply to hermafroditism, which is a biological disfunction. But as far as I know, hermafrodites are born with the 2 genders, and they just have to choose one out of them. It´s a completely different case when one is born 100% male or 100% female, but just "feels" like not being it. A childrens personality is not completely developed, and if the mind is not completely in harmony with the body, changing minds is easier and less painful then artificially changing your own body.

And here we have a classic example of what I was talking about in reference to the hang-ups of others... As if gender reassignment is actually the same thing as a nose job or silicone implants, it would actually be considerably easier for kids to get a nose job or a tummy tuck done than to get Gender Reassignment ..... :rolleyes: Are you even aware of the example that I actually gave in support of this....? If you were to see footage of this kid when (s)he was male, you wouldn't be spouting off this sort of nonsense, because it was so OBVIOUS that something just wasn't right... These sorts of cases where it would be the right thing to do are pretty rare and extreme, and it would NOT be entered into lightly (certainly considerably LESS lightly than the vast majority of Plastic Surgery..), there would have to be serious psychological assessments and evaluations... It's a fact that not every person who applies for Gender Reassignment through the proper channels actually gets the surgery...

 

And by the way, if you want to put on a few pounds or take off a few pounds, you dont need bloody surgery, you just need to eat a bit more or a bit less..... :lol: :lol:

 

Funny to hear you talk about genital mutilation though, seeing as how certain RELIGIONS in the world carry out this sort of thing (without informed consent mind and NOT in a safe, sterilized Clinical environment....) on both boys and girls in the name of their fukkin' "god". There's certainly no valid, clinical or psychological reason to cut off a child's foreskin or clitoris under this sort of religious caveat, THAT is pure ritualism and voodoo done for no earthly purpose other than some deluded attempt to appease "god" on some nebulous level..... <_<

If you bothered taking off your zealot-atheist-fundamentalist-hater glasses to read to the topics, you would have seen what I said in my post DOES NOT applies to hermafroditism. I don´t see HOW ON EARTH getting your puberty suspended by heavy drugs until 17 will make a kid happier then being "the wrong sex". Hermafroditism is a biological disfunction, not a mere "mummy, I want a barbie doll this Christmas...". And if a guy feels like being "the wrong sex", then it would be easier to take masculine hormones then going trough surgery to change your whole body to become female. It´s easier to go trough mind change then going trough drastic body change, which envolves loads of heavy drugs, and still doesn´t turn anyone into a real women/men. Do you thing guys on the school will REALLY want to date a transexual kid??? Or a girl turned male will really have a pen*s, to have a f***ing normal sexual relationship with a woman?
