The Royal Mail has decided that it is too dangerous for postmen to deliver to a hamlet called Booze in the Yorkshire Dales.

The fact that not one postman in more than 60 years has suffered any kind of mishap means absolutely nothing to the health and safety brigade, who have declared that their staff run an “unacceptable” risk of injury.

The people who live in this hamlet will now have a 45-minute drive to Swaledale to collect their letters. Apart from the massive inconvenience, it’s an expensive option, with petrol prices as they are.

One of the good things about Britain, which distinguished it from some other parts of the world, was that its public services worked quietly and efficiently. We had a decent postal service and post offices where they were needed.

There were regular rubbish collections, running water, gas and electricity and various other essentials for a civilised existence. Now all these services are becoming problematic or outrageously expensive. Or suddenly – like the post – they are taken away for no good reason.

How dare the Royal Mail take this decision? It has offered to install roadside boxes as a delivery point, which is just

a further insult to the residents.

Apparently this health and safety investigation was launched after complaints from staff. Shame on these postmen. Do they have no pride in their work?

Do they place no value in a job well done?

So, no post for the people of Booze. It’s enough to drive you to drink.

What are the grounds for the complaints...? I dont get it tbh.... If you were talking about some dodgy estate full of crackheads, junkies, alkies and crims where there have been instances of Postal Workers being attacked or threatened, now THAT I could understand....
Isn't this deep in the heart of Postman Pat land? Will the BBC have to cancel all re-runs of Pat now or simply relocate him to a 'safe' urban setting?
I thought the post office had a legal obligation to deliver the mail to your door. What are the circumstances of this case? Why have they stopped delivering here?
