Okay, this isn’t about Elvis but it is about another King ;) I’m a real softie when it comes to animals and this story is so lovely, the video made me cry

Wonder of lion's reunion with men who raised him is internet hit :cheer:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/bornfree.jpg

Two young men walk towards a lion on an African reserve. He sees them, stops in his tracks, sniffs the air... then bounds towards them in delight.

Standing up on his hind legs, he hugs both in turn and licks their faces just as he did when they adopted him as a baby. This joyful man-and-beast reunion after four years apart is the latest YouTube video sensation on the internet... with more than 16MILLION hits.

It has given a huge boost to the famous Born Free Foundation, whose founders helped rehabilitate the lion, called Christian, back into the wild.

The clip may be nearly 40 years old which is why John Rendall and Ace Bourke have long hair and are wearing flares but it still tugs at the heart-strings. The emotional scene filmed in 1974 was first released as part of a foundation DVD in 2006 and was uploaded to the internet by a fan a few weeks ago with the tear-jerking soundtrack of Whitneys Houstons I Will Always Love You.

It would never be allowed today, but John and Ace bought three-month-old Christian from Harrods in 1969 for 250 guineas (s262.50) and kept him in a flat the pair, then both 25, were sharing in London.

Our local vicar allowed us the run of his graveyard and every day we took him there to roar around and play football, says John, now 63, who still lives near London and works in animal welfare Ace lives on a smallholding in Australia.

But as Christian grew to 13st his meals were costing s30 a week (s370 in todays money). He was too big to cope with and the pals realised they had to set their beloved pet free.

Then came a chance meeting with actress Virginia McKenna, who had starred in the 1966 film Born Free based on the work of real-life game wardens George and Joy Adamson, who released lions into the wild. With her help, they flew Christian to Kenya and drove him to the foundations HQ in a national park about 220 miles to the northeast of the capital, Nairobi.

After a tearful farewell, the pair flew back to the UK. But four years later they yearned to know what had become of Christian. They were warned a return visit could prove fruitless as he had disappeared into the bush and had not been seen for months.

But as if by some sixth sense, the lion now 30 stone returned to the foundation HQ with his lionesses and cubs just hours before the pairs arrival. John says: He ran towards us, threw himself on to us, knocked us over, and hugged us, like he used to, with his paws on our shoulders. Everyone was crying. We were crying, even the lion was nearly crying. We will never forget our last, precious moments together.

In 1984 Virginia McKenna founded the Born Free wildlife charity, now run by her son Will Travers. He hopes the clip will inspire people to help them free more animals. Will says: The message is if you truly love someone, set them free. Thats why it touched such a chord. Christian was a success story. But there are many more animals in desperate need.

For all JC fans, this looks good :yahoo: Saw it on FECC

Johnny Cash' Folsom Prison box set with 33 unreleased tracks

It was Jan. 13, 1968, when Johnny Cash recorded his live album at Folsom

Prison in northern California and little did he know the impact it would

have on his career. It would spend 122 weeks on the charts plus earn Cash a

Grammy and a Country Music Association Album of the Year award. It also set

the stage for ABC to offer him his own weekly TV show.

Although he never spent time in prison, Cash had spent a few nights in city

jails back in his wilder days. He started performing concerts in prisons in

the late 1950s with a show in Huntsville, Texas. The prisoners were such a

great audience that he began playing at various prisons around the country.

He first played Folsom in 1966 and was convinced this would be the perfect

venue to record a live album. Although it rarely was mentioned, Cash

recorded two shows that day, one at 9:40 a.m. and one 12:40 p.m. The first

show was where the bulk of the original album came from but "I Got Stripes"

and "Give My Love To Rose" was taken from the second show.

Now, thanks to Columbia Legacy, the vaults finally are emptied and both

shows are being released in their entirety, with a total of 33 songs being

issued for the first time. Titled "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison: Legacy

Edition," the new box set also will include a bonus documentary DVD that

includes exclusive footage and interviews with Merle Haggard, Rosanne Cash,

Marty Stuart and former inmates who were at Folsom when Cash recorded the

classic album. Mark those calendars now for Oct. 14 when this remarkable

collection hits the streets.

Looks like it’s 3rd November for us in the UK ;)

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love Elvis but I also love the music of Paul Weller and last night, at the NEC he put on another blistering show. I must have seen him about 16 or 17 times since ’92 and he just gets better and better and last night was probably one of the best times I’ve ever seen him! Just noticed that someone has already put up a clip from the show. Carole was right up the front, just a few feet from the man himself and I've got the bruised feet to show for it :yahoo:  :w00t:
