This is genuine wonderful band. I don't know if I put this topic in the right place because this band has metal roots. However their last few albums were highly inspired by artists like Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead ect. They made some beautiful melancholic music.

Listen to this and tell me what you think.

"A Natural Disaster" and "Temporary Peace"

Are you there

Anathema are a bloody FANTASTIC band... I've seen them live twice, they sound even better live than on album... The Cavanagh brothers are incredibly gifted songwriters, and frankly it really p!sses me off that these guys aren't a LOT bigger than they are in the UK (they seem to be a lot bigger on the Continent funnily enough..). Seems like people would prefer the iterminably dull as fukk Coldplay or Athlete to genuine atmospheric/melodic rock like Anathema..... -_-

If you like these guys, might I suggest The Gathering (a really fantastic Dutch experimental rock band with a quite astounding female vocalist...) or the really quite astonishing Swedish Prog Metal band Opeth....?

I think Anathema, while being labelled as Metal, have really transcended the genre in a lot of ways... You cant really say that "Alternative 4", "Judgement", "Natural Disaster" or "A Fine Day to Exit" are really "Metal" albums at all any more than you could say Pink Floyd or Jeff Buckley were "Metal".... In fact, I'm not even sure "Eternity" could be classed as being "metal" either... If Anathema were selling loads of records, they'd probably be described as "Stadium Rock", but in the good sense, the Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin godlike genius sense, as opposed to the bloated, dull, lowest common denominator U2 or Coldplay sense......

I agree with you in a 100%

And Yeah, The Gathering are bloody good too. Do you know Agua de Annique? This is recent Anneke's band :-). They recorded very good album. B) She has beautiful voice. I had this luck to see The Gathering back after releasing "How to Measure a Planet?" She is incredible live!

And I saw Anathema twice and also saw Vinnie and Danny in a special acoustic gig. They are bloody funny people, especially Vinnie :-)

Hehe, I've known and loved Opeth for ten years :-)

You know It's indeed very strange that after all these years they are almost unknown in UK.

Here in my country they can easy fill 2000/3000 capacity venues. I think it's not that bad :-)

oh in fact I saw Anathema three times. The last time I saw tem they supported Porcupine Tree.

Well, I'll finally get the chance to see them in a venue that size in September - they're doing a show with My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost..... A really impressive Triple-Header that's gonna be..... Which country are you from by the way, if you don't mind me asking....?

You have really good taste in music by the way..... It's good to finally be able to talk to someone on this site about bands like Opeth, The Gathering and Anathema and not feel like I'm just banging my head against a brick wall...... I'll certainly check out Anneke's side-project album.....

It's going to be an awesome gig, I'm pretty sure. Three pioneers of doom metal :-). Lucky you, I've never seen My Dying Bride live :-(, I like them but not so much like Anathema.

To be honest with you I lost the touch with Paradise Lost a long time ago. Draconian Times is the last album I know and like.

Hehe, I'm pretty shy and I don't like to tell my personal informations on messageboards.

I'll give you a clue. I'm from the country where Anathema recorded 'Were you There' DVD ;-)

Oh, thank you for the compliment but you might change your opinion about me, who knows? ;-)

I have really broad musical taste. The only genres that get on my nerves are hip hop, R&B and rap. That kind of music is emotionless for me....welll I better stop here because some people might feel offended. ;-)

So, Is it only you on BJ that like that kind of music?

I don't think this is her side-project because she left The Gathering some time ago...
