Posted August 8, 200816 yr Very Very Very Very Very Very Very unlikley but will anything outsell Elton John's Candle in the wind or Queen's Greatest Hits as the best selling single/album in the UK. Thoughts please.        I Think nothing will ever
August 8, 200816 yr Give ABBA's Gold another decade or so and it will definitely earn that accolade! But will any artists manage to sell 5.5million albums in a decades time?
August 10, 200816 yr Something will outsell Elton - I didn't think Band Aid would ever be beaten, but all it takes is for Prince William to snuff it and some tosh will be bought in its millions. Nothing that isn't for charity / tribute though.

Isn't it about 4 or 5 million copies? I don't think any single has even reached 2 million copies sold since then because the market just isn't as big any more. I reckon that if Diana was revived today, died of tragic consequences again and Elton released another tribute single for her it would shift 2 to 2.5 million copies at best. Maybe I'm underestimating the buying public, but I honestly think the record wont be broken because of the huge decline of physical sales.

A lot of Grannys bought Candle In The Wind and - though it's a generalisation - I can't see many of them shopping on iTunes.
August 10, 200816 yr If it were a big tragedy today like Diana, the record would be made available in Woolies, supermarkets etc though wouldn't it? They do it every year with x-factor to get the bigger sales.
