February 28, 200718 yr I would like to see Darius do something different in the musicals sphere. There is to be a new lead for Guys and dolls but rumour has it a big name possibly john travolta.
February 28, 200718 yr I definitely wouldn't fancy Brendon Cole. What about Duncan James? Would he make a Billy? Sky are saying today that he's going to give upmusic and concentrate on the theatre and TV presenting? Duncan has just announced on 'Skating on Ice' that he is delaying the release of his single 'Amazed' to concentrate on theatre and other work. And then Ben Shepherd said that Duncan was 'giving up' his 'pop' career!! I think that Duncan has been brilliant on 'Skating on Ice' and hope to go to see the tour. I wonder what he has been offered work-wise after that!!?? Darius did say in his Q and As that another stint as Billy Flynn was on the cards and that he had been offered the role over the Xmas period. I was disappointed that he didn't take it as I think he would have possibly won the WOS Award had he still been playing the part and that would have done wonders for his credibility!! However, maybe he is looking to play 'Billy' again closer to the release of the album, as he certainly has got to do something to raise his profile again before releasing his new music!!! Whatever he plans to do, I hope he gives us plenty of notice and that we don't have too long to wait.... :D Julie
February 28, 200718 yr quote - However, maybe he is looking to play 'Billy' again closer to the release of the album, as he certainly has got to do something to raise his profile again before releasing his new music! I get more worried when I read things like this from ananova -featuring some reasonably top names at one time. The race is on. Who will win the bid to sing at the Eurovision Song Contest? One star vying for a spot is singer and guitarist Justin Hawkins. The former frontman of The Darkness is one of six acts competing to represent the country in this year's 52nd annual Eurovision Song competition. He'll take to the stage with singer Beverlei Brown, as the duo act Hawkins And Brown. But it won't be easy as they face stiff competition from former East 17 star Brian Harvey, ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon, hip-hop group Big Brovaz, pop quartet Scooch, and newcomer Cyndi. The public will vote for their top artist on the live show Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up, to air on BBC1 next month... The winner will then head off to Helsinki, Finland, in May to sing at the international contest
February 28, 200718 yr Theatre is the poor relative when it comes to media attantion and never gets much coverage at all unless it's a newish production in London. Right now the floodlights are on Equus because Daniel Radcliffe has decided to prove he's an act -OR before the Potter series comes to an end by stripping off in one of the more contraversial 20th century plays, whereas bar the trumpeting before he started, and conflicting reviews, good and bad, Will Young has had very little TV etc interest while he's been in The Vortex in Manchester. Wicked was launched in a blaze of glory but although I occasionally browse some theatre sites, I couldn't name one person in it, apart from Idina, and I don't think she's still there. Actors make more impact in one successful TV drama than months on stage in theatre, be it London or the provinces. The late Ian Richardson had a tremendous career but I think it's sad that he will be remembered for just one TV character, Sir Francis Urquart. It's noticable that the best British actors have had quite a bit of theatre experience. I first saw Helen Mirren in Teeth and (n') Smiles, written by David Hare, at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in I think 1976/77. She was brilliant back then too. February 28, 200718 yr I hadn't heard that. When did you hear it, megham? Ooh, that would give the show 2 Australian leads. Jason's very experienced. I might be tempted to see him, if it's true. Edited February 28, 200718 yr by Baytree
March 1, 200718 yr I've not heard anything for ages. It had been suggested that Jason was taking over from Tony for a couple of months - but I've not seen anything since.
March 1, 200718 yr You'd think if it was true, WOS would have mentioned it when they made the announcement about Tina Arena. I remember them trailing Darius's second run at the same time they said Jennifer Ellison was coming back.
March 6, 200718 yr WOS is still saying that there has been no confirmation of who is taking over as Billy Flynn when Tony Hadley finishes on the 24th March. Itcould be another of the times we and they, find out for sure a few days before.
March 6, 200718 yr Perhaps they will bring in George Asprey from the tour or one of their other WE stalwarts like Simon Breen. Surely they couldn'thave the understudy Mike Denman do it for any time. He's a great dancer and plays his little speaking roles fine but for me, he's far too boyish, slight. I could see him as e.g. Fiyero in Wicked but I'd have to completely suspend belief to accept him as Billy. BTW A new musical is being proposed for the West End and Hugh Jackman is being courted to return to open it as the West End lead, but it's one I think Darius just might be tempted to consider and would be perfect for...... period Billy Flynn -charming rogue, out for money and the ladies adore him.......... Rhett Butler! They say the musical will follow the book rather than the film and will be a bit darker.
March 6, 200718 yr You beat me to it baytree. I saw that gone with the wind was coming and thought the same as you.
March 10, 200718 yr It's only 2 weeeks to the end of Tony's run. It always seems funny them not having confirmed the next cast when this happens.
March 10, 200718 yr Jason Donovan was on James Martin's Kitchen programme thingy today. I don't know if it was recorded. He spoke about a greatest hits tour in April but he didn't mention anything in the West End.
February 3, 200817 yr Perhaps they will bring in George Asprey from the tour or one of their other WE stalwarts like Simon Breen. Rhett Butler! They say the musical will follow the book rather than the film and will be a bit darker. Wow! Did I get that right or what? Shame I didn't put a bet on it. I reckon I'd have got very long odds on Darius. That was well before he got good reviews for Sky Masterson. Maybe I could have financed one of my trips to GWTW. February 3, 200817 yr shame about that then, you could have cleaned up, I reckon this took a lot by suprise..though probably not the people who had actually worked with Darius!
February 4, 200817 yr you could have made a bundle......sorted the roof and popped down to London to see the odd show whenever you wanted. Next time act on your instincts ....but tell us to as well :D
February 9, 200817 yr It's like the time I nearly won the lottery jackpot. I chose 6 special numbers from my Mum and Dad's lives and then at the last minute decided to split them over 2 lines and added some other family numbers - all six came up and I won 20 quid. I think our dark horse has joined the "ones to watch" list now. He came from well back in the field to take a classic. The days of long odds are over and I couldn't be happier.
