My Chemical Romance Nominated for 2008 Grammy Award

My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade" Was Nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package

BURBANK, CA--(Marketwire - December 6, 2007) - Reprise Records' My Chemical Romance received their first Grammy Award nomination today for Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package. Singer Gerard Way along with Art Directors Matt Taylor and Ellen Wakayama received music's highest recognition for their work.

Released on October 24th, 2006, "The Black Parade" claimed the Number One spot on SoundScan's Rock, Alternative, Top Albums Retailers, Indy/Small Chain, Internet, and Digital Album Charts. It also shot to Number 2 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart, selling more than 240,000 copies its first week of release. The album has since been certified platinum by the R.I.A.A. and spawned three hit Modern Rock singles, "Welcome To the Black Parade," "Famous Last Words," and the current single "Teenagers," which shot to the top of MTV's "TRL" in July.

The success of "The Black Parade" -- an epic theatrical concept album about mortality -- has been driven by both fan excitement and stunning favorable press reaction. It was named 2006's "Album Of The Year" by Blender Magazine, which dubbed it an "instant classic," saying: "My Chemical Romance transcended the cliché... to craft a grandiose epic that just might make them the biggest band in the world." Rolling Stone called it "a rabid, ingenious paraphrasing of echoes and kitsch from rock's golden age of bombast." Entertainment Weekly said the album is "riotously enjoyable... their best yet," and The New York Times lauded it as "a tour de force about coming of age in the post 9/11 era."

The awards will be handed out at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 10th, 2008. Tune in to the 50th Annual Grammy Awards telecast, which airs that night on CBS at 8pm ET/PT.

BLACK IS BACK: My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way performs at Auckland's Vector Arena

Teenagers were out in force as American rock act My Chemical Romance performed in Auckland. Reviewer Chris Schulz braved the black-clad masses.

Forget about parents, teachers, and older brothers and sisters. No one understands teenagers better than My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way.

“No one on this stage is cool, and that’s exactly the way we like it,” declared Way during the band’s show at Vector Arena, showing off the attitude that has seen him become a hero to disenchanted teens the world over.

The ear-piercing screams that greeted his every move proved that being uncool has made Way and his band of misfit outcasts, well, kinda cool actually.

They blasted onto Vector’s smoke-filled stage with flame throwers erupting into giant fireballs and rocket cannons exploding over the stage, thrilling the two-thirds-full stadium of - you guessed it - mainly teens.

There were plenty of theatrics as they worked their way through a series of fist-pumping sing-along anthems, including Dead!, I’m Not Okay (I Promise) , I Don’t Love You and a riotous version of signature tune Welcome to the Black Parade.

With his face painted white, Way acted as a circus ringleader instructing the audience to clap, wave, sing and swear - and they responded by mimicking his every move.

His moods swung between energetic livewire and petulant teenager - but you couldn’t help but chuckle at some of his between-song banter, which he would probably do better to avoid.

“There was a time before My Chemical Romance when I was turning tricks outside a porn shop for cocaine,” he said when introducing Give ‘Em Hell. “Hand jobs $20, blow jobs $50.”

Yep, his tongue was firmly in his cheek, but his antics helped distract from a few shortcomings. Some of My Chemical Romance's early tracks pale in comparison to last year's excellent The Black Parade, and Way's band mates lack the stage presence of their over-the-top front man.

It was a point brought home when - near the end of the show - Way fell and played dead with just a single spotlight resting on him. As the band toddled off for a breather, Way was left to stagger to his feet and continue entertaining the crowd on his own.

But he knows what he's doing. A thrilling rendition of Teenagers - the band's best track by a long way - proved once and for all that Way knows exactly what the secret is to connecting with teens.

Perhaps he’d like to share it with the world some day.

At the MCR concert in Kuala Lumpur this week, fans got their wish for a great gig. SHARIFAH ARFAH feels the vibes.

WHEN a fan of the American band My Chemical Romance said that he expected a truly great gig at their show in Kuala Lumpur, he got his wish. They did not disappoint.

The concert, at Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, started at 6.30pm with One Buck Short, one of the two local bands performing as opening acts. Pop Shuvit came on at 7pm, performing its hits such as Old Skool Rocka, Mara Bahaya and Jump.

For some reason, holders of RM103 tickets were only allowed in later, at 7.30pm. With some arriving as early as 5pm, it was an unreasonably long wait.

After several sound checks, (singer) Gerard Way and company finally made their appearance at 8.15pm, aided by a dramatic unfolding of the MCR banner in the background. By this time, a light drizzle had become heavier, and much of the crowd scrambled for giveaway pocket raincoats, before settling down again.

MCR’s line-up included guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, and bassist Mikey Way (Gerard’s younger brother). Tucker Rule of rock band Thursday replaced drummer Bob Bryar for this concert.

Opening with This Is How I Disappear, there was no sign of getting let-down. Throughout the show, Gerard’s interaction was minimal, save for the ubiquitous “Hello Malaysia, how are you guys feeling?”. Gerard prefers to let the songs, and his performance, do the talking.

Dark and dramatic, Gerard is full of energy, pacing back and forth now and then on the stage. The loudest cheers from the crowd were for I’m Not Okay (I Promise), Welcome to the Black Parade, I Don’t Love You, and Helena.

Also in the list of songs they performed were Teenagers, House of Wolves, You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison, and Cemetery Drive. Famous Last Words, which Mikey, Toro and Gerard said was their favourite song from their latest album, provided a fitting and a rousing end to the concert.

Most of the songs were fast-tempo, romping pieces with plenty of guitar work. Toro also provided a treat in a sizzling guitar solo.

It was not headbanging music all the way, though. The tempo changed into slow mode with ballads Cancer and Desert Song, Gerard expressing himself in a raw, uninhibited and heartfelt performance, leaving the audience silent for a while.

“I love being in this band, the greatest band in the world,” said Gerard towards the end. Listening to their songs and watching their performance, it’s clear that they think they’re great because they feel it and believe it.

The hour-long concert was energetic and entertaining. As usual, live performances always leave audience hankering for more, and this concert was no exception.

Sorry this wasn't updated every day :(

Wishing all the chemmie lovers a great Christmas though

My Chemical Romance have sent out a oblique message on their website, prompting fans to speculate on their future.

On TheBlackParade.com there is a repeated image of a hospital monitor’s flatline and the message “00 BPM” on the bottom right hand side of the screen.

The band played as fictional group The Black Parade during their world tour earlier this year with singer Gerard Way telling the crowd on the opening night of a show in Plymouth : “We are The Black Parade.”

Fans have suggested that the message does not indicate the end of the band but the end of the ’Black Parade’ era.

On fansite Unleash The Bats, user Differentmind wrote: “I actually think that is pretty clever if they are referring to the fact that The Black Parade is supposedly dead.”

Meanwhile Jennasie wrote: “It’s because they will never play as The Black Parade ever again so they are like..dead. Flat lining.”

My Chemical Romance Frontman Calls Britney His "Heroine"

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is calling Britney Spears a new name: heroine. According to Contactmusic, the 30-year-old singer, who has experience battling addiction, sees the troubled pop star as a source of inspiration, and says he can relate to her erratic behavior.

"I think that her shaving her head was awesome, that was one of my highlights of the year!" Way exclaims. "I thought she looked great, and I totally got it. I have had a lot of moments where I can identify with her. Sometimes you just wanna shave your head and be covered in your own s**t, running through the streets, being crazy. You wanna be f**king locked up!"

My Chemical Death Threats

A Virginia cafe owner has received death threats after rock bands My Chemical Romance and Muse got salmonella food poisoning at his restaurant. Welcome to the brown parade!

After a gig at the nearby College of William and Mary on April 28, the bands stopped for a bite at Glenn Gormley's Green Leafe Cafe. Shortly afterwards, the musicians (and other patrons) got sick, which forced MCR and Muse to cancel several dates on their tour.

Since then, Gormley says angry My Chemical Romance fans have been leaving him death threats. Holy c**p! While the Health Department is investigating the situation, Gormley won't go into details of the threats.

According to the CDC, most persons infected with salmonella develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The good news is that the illness usually lasts only 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without treatment.

HCM City stands for Ho Chi Minh City ...Am I the only one who didn't knew that ? :(

This is quite funny.

Heard about this a while ago

It was all over the news worldwide

Looking at that pic of Gerard makes me think he needs to go to the dentist btw.! Black fillings are so not done anymore -_-

Little imperfections are what make people perfect

I aint one of those "OMG HE'S AMAZIN' CAN'T DO NUFINK WRONG" but I like it when famous people have their imperfections because it makes them more human

Ohh they don't have to be perfect for me either! Who is anyway -_-

They can have little imperfections or huge ones.Black fillings just aren't done anymore

Even my dentist doesn't use them for me and I'm hardly a celebrity.

2008 Projekt Revolution tour coming together

For Chester Bennington, this year's edition of the Projekt Revolution package tour came together with essentially one simple decision after another.

The Linkin Park singer said he was able to sign up about 90 percent of the bands he wanted for the tour, which features rockers Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, goth superstar H.I.M., Brit pop heroes Placebo, up-and-comers Saosin and Madina Lake, among others.

"With My Chem, it was a no-brainer for us; we were all really excited about the opportunity to tour with them," Bennington said. "Taking Back Sunday is another group that put out consistently good records and tour hard and they seem to have a connection with their fans, and those are all things that we take very seriously. And I think, like with all the bands, they make great records, too.

"If you take Linkin Park off this bill, it's still going to be the biggest tour of the summer," he said. "You can mix up the main stage any way you want and it's awesome, it doesn't matter."

Taking Back Sunday bassist Matt Rubano said the decision to sign on with the tour also came easily.

"We've always tried to take tours based on either touring with bands that we are either fans of or friends with and new opportunities," Rubano said. "This is pretty much a cross-section of all of those. I think this was, for a band that takes a long time to make decisions ... like a one phone-call thing for everyone, and here we are ready to hit Projekt Revolution."

One change from previous Projekt Revolutions is the lack of a big-name hip-hop act for the main stage, which Bennington said was a conscious decision.

"I think, as a whole, we kind of just decided that these were the bands we wanted to go out with," he said. "Mixing genres has always been kind of what we do, but I don't think it's absolutely what we have to do all the time."

Bennington said that aside from Cypress Hill and Snoop Dogg, he noticed a drop in excitement during the hip-hop acts.

"I personally felt like the show kind of went into a lull in some cases and I really wanted this to be really exciting, energy filled," he said. "I want the band to be able to feed off of the crowd. I don't want to have to warm them back up after a show. It can flow if they're the right mix, but I think through trial and error we've realized that we want to put on a really energetic show and sometimes people don't really want to have to think too much when they go to a concert."
