What's the best selling album of all time?

This difficult question, 'cause in the pre-90s era we didn't have a market economy. Apparently in the 70s-80s some national titles attains about one million copies, but these figures are not documented.

 

Since 1994 we have a new copyright law and all international major labels. The first monthly shipment chart was initiated in 1997. The best selling album of that year, Budka Suflera's "Nic Nie Boli Tak Jak Zycie", shipped 609,928 copies. The best selling international album of that year, Spice Girls' "Spice", shipped 165,253 copies. The latest annual shipment chart for 2007 is here. Unfortunately ZPAV doesn't publish all-time chart.

 

The first weekly retail sales chart was published in 2000, but sales figures are confidential. Unfortunately ZPAV doesn't publish annual sales charts and also all-time chart.

 

Is it small market?

The market was big in the late 90s. Now is rather a very average. Lately, except phenomenal success of Feel's self-titled debut album with more than 150k copies shipped to date, other albums shipped much less, usually 15-30k copies, sometimes 60k or more copies (for example Nelly Furtado's "Loose" shipped 100k copies).
