Posted August 26, 200816 yr System of a Down singer Serj Tankian has strongly hinted that SOAD may reform and represent Armenia.... This is coming from Wikipedia, but it seems to cite an actual source, so, I dunno, could happen.... System of a Down has shown a keen interest in representing Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 to be held in Russia next year. However, the soloist of the band, Serj Tankian, has openly stated in a recent visit in Finland that this will be under one condition: if they will be able to use Eurovision as a way to make the much-debated Armenian Genocide issue known. "ESC would be an excellent way to make this theme known. We must seriously think of this." [10] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_of_a_down The band have been on indefinite hiatus since 2006, Tankian and guitarist Daron Malakian have been involved in solo projects, but is would seem to me that this would be a brilliant way for SOAD to make a comeback, cool as fukk actually.... If this were to happen, they'd absolutely romp it I reckon, easily Top 5; mult-platinum selling artists known worldwide, MUCH bigger than Lordi in Europe, and Serj and Daron can actually sing in harmony together, and are both excellent songwriters.... I would absolutely support SOAD if they took part in ESC, they are one of my favourite bands of the past six years or so....
August 26, 200816 yr thats what im talking about, atchul decent musicans playing ESC is needed, saw Serj at Reading too, pretty good live but nothing on SOAD.
August 26, 200816 yr Author  soad in the eurovision song contest! ... It would literally KICK ASS woudn't it...? The fact that SOAD are a more credible act as well, as opposed to a novelty Rock act like Lordi.... I can see their conditions causing a bit of controversy, but the Armenian genocide is something they as artists feel very strongly about, they've written songs about this subject before ("War" from the first SOAD album), they also have a great sense of their own history and cultural backgrounds, and employ Armenian folk elements into their music... They truly are one of the best examples of modern musical artists of the 21st century, great rocking tunes, with a brain.... You dont see this anything like often enough....

TBH, I really like Serj's solo album, also Daron and John's 'Scars on Broadway' project is damn good too... Serj's stuff is pretty different to SOAD, Scars on Broadway are broadly similar stuff in some ways...
August 26, 200816 yr I've already made a topic on this, but I still reckon it's good for the competition ^_^ I very much doubt they'd be allowed to take part though if they were too political with the song, I couldn't see Turkey letting it go easily...but if they did manage to enter, there's an almost guaranteed win there!
August 26, 200816 yr Personally I'm not a fan of their music but I wish them good luck if this is true. Hehe, this thread reminded me when I was at the Slayer gig ten years ago they were supporting act. Poor guys were totally booed by the audience and even some food was thrown at them. They left the stage pissed as hell... I hope that eurovision audience will be more tolerant  Edited August 26, 200816 yr by Moonloop
August 26, 200816 yr This news surfaced a few months ago, but it's still only rumours and I can't see it happening tbh. I can see Armenia winning the contest one way or another in the next two or three years though, so if System of a Down do appear in 2009, it may just be then...
