Posted September 5, 200816 yr Howdy Folks! No Trevs, to start this week. So all from me. The usual end of week chart outlook, with the top films, dvds, albums, a flashback, and finally ending up with the top singles/songs this week, in our very own compiled top 50 (based on the Chart Show Chart, with added sales...the fastest chart in Britain). No messing, here are the top films this week: w/k ending Weds 10th Sept 2008 01 NE STEP BROTHERS 02 02 MAMMA MIA 03 NE THE STRANGERS 04 01 HELLBOY II GOLDEN ARMY 05 04 DARK KNIGHT 06 03 GET SMART 07 NE BABYLON A.D. 08 05 YOU DON`T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN 09 07 WILD CHILD 10 08 WALL.E STEP BROTHERS nets £1,681,492, THE STRANGERS nets £1,250,624, and BABYLON A.D. nets £536,968. The top dvd films: 01 NE DOOMSDAY 02 NE FOOLS GOLD 03 01 NEVER BACK DOWN 04 NE DAY OF THE DEAD 05 02 NIM`S ISLAND 06 04 MEET THE SPARTANS 07 03 AWAKE 08 NE OXFORD MURDERS 09 05 IN BRUGES 10 11 CLOVERFIELD CLOVERFIELD goes back into the top 10, a very long runner there. FOOLS GOLD would have been the better of the 2 to go to the top, but DOOMSDAY takes it with a nudge. The top tv related dvds: 01 NE DR WHO SERIES 4 VOL. 4 02 01 DR WHO AND THE WAR MACHINES 1965 03 NE NEW TRICKS SERIES 4 04 02 SUPERNATURAL SERIES 3 05 NE WWE JUDGEMENT DAY 2008 06 NE TRIAL AND RETRIBUTION THE THIRD 07 04 ARE YOU BEING SERVED SERIES 7 1979 08 03 STARGATE CONTINUUM 09 08 STAR WARS ROBOT CHICKEN 10 NE FAMILY GUY BLUE HARVEST The top tv programmes: 01 01 X FACTOR 10.10M 02 04 NEW TRICKS 9.36M 03 03 EASTENDERS 9.24M 04 02 CORONATION STREET 9.18M 05 05 WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE 7.04M 06 10 10 O, CLOCK NEWS 7.04M 07 09 EMMERDALE 6.88M 08 07 HEARTBEAT 6.71M 09 NE MARTIN CLUNES A MAN AND HIS DOGS 6.18M 10 NE OLYMPICS 6.01M Nice to see no soap at number 1. Unfortunately Eastenders is in the top 3. Want to know why the BBC Licence Fee is so high, and why loads of older favourite programmes disappeared after 1985? Eastenders is why. The biggest cost of licence fee payers money, is put into that..Fact! :puke2: (The top tv is compiled by BARB (British Audience Research), Top Films compiled by Screen International, for UK Box Office, Top dvds compiled from sales/rentals across the UK, by DTR). All in all, quite a quiet album chart but 12 compilations in there again. You can see this chart minus the compilations, on Chart Show tv on Sundays 2.30-4pm. (The top albums are compiled from stores/download sites all across Britain up to, and including Wednesday evening). On a journey back to Sept 1980, these were the top albums: w/k ending 6th Sept 1980 01 01 GIVE ME THE NIGHT - GEORGE BENSON 02 02 FLESH AND BLOOD - ROXY MUSIC 03 06 DIANA - DIANA ROSS 04 09 OFF THE WALL - MICHAEL JACKSON 05 04 BACK IN BLACK - AC/DC 06 NE BREAKING GLASS - HAZEL O` CONNER/OST 07 03 XANADU - OST 08 08 SKY 2 - SKY 09 NE DRAMA - YES 10 15 UPRISING - BOB MARLEY 11 05 DEEPEST PURPLE - DEEP PURPLE 12 07 VIENNA - ULTRAVOX 13 17 KALEIDASCOPE - SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES 14 11 I JUST CAN`T STOP IT - BEAT 15 18 MANILOW MAGIC - BARRY MANILOW 16 19 GLORY ROAD - GILLAN 17 24 ME MYSELF I - JOAN ARMATRADING 18 12 LIVING IN A FANTASY - LEO SAYER 19 19 CLOSER - JOY DIVISION 20 25 CAN`T STOP THE MUSIC - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK A trio of film soundtracks here then..XANADU was a absolutely terrible film, roller skating etc. The music was good with ELO, and OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN. CAN`T STOP THE MUSIC was another awful film, with music supplied by the VILLAGE PEOPLE. BREAKING GLASS was pretty powerful, with the most energetic HAZEL O` CONNER. In the film she played a punk manipulated female singer, very electronic. GEORGE BENSON was doing the honours at number 1, swapping over with ROXY MUSIC, who both had current singles in the chart. AC/DC provided rock, along with GILLAN (IAN GILLAN not only a rocksinger, but a man who also nearly bought a certain football club, in the 80s..in the care of ROBERT MAXWELL>late newspaper tycoon mysteriously found drowned in 1991). YES cut a number of singles, but mainly an album band with the likes of JON ANDERSON. ULTRAVOX had the VIENNA album out months before the single..wonder if the album had been kept back to 1981, if VIENNA-the single would have knocked JOE DOLCE off the top?! :teresa: Big favourites with LEO SAYER, and the brilliant other showman BARRY MANILOW. Dropping outside the top 20 albums was ELVIS PRESLEY with "ELVIS AARON PRESLEY"..It was a 8 LP boxed set, issued for the 3rd anniversary of the man`s death. It contained previously rare and unreleased material. It cost over £30, and was the most expensive LP to make the top 20 in history. Here were the top singles in Sept 1980: 01 01 ASHES TO ASHES - DAVID BOWIE 02 02 START - THE JAM 03 04 9 TO 5 - SHEENA EASTON 04 07 FEELS LIKE I`M IN LOVE - KELLY MARIE 05 14 I DIE YOU DIE - GARY NUMAN 06 05 TOM HARK - PIRANHAS 07 19 EIGHTH DAY - HAZEL O` CONNER 08 10 SUNSHINE OF YOUR SMILE - MIKE BERRY 09 03 WINNER TAKES IT ALL - ABBA 10 15 DREAMIN` - CLIFF RICHARD 11 06 UPSIDE DOWN - DIANA ROSS 12 08 OOPS UP SIDE YOUR HEAD - GAP BAND 13 17 CAN`T STOP THE MUSIC - VILLAGE PEOPLE 14 20 BANK ROBBER - THE CLASH 15 18 MODERN GIRL - SHEENA EASTON 16 11 GIVE ME THE NIGHT - GEORGE BENSON 17 09 OH YEAH (THERE`S A BAND PLAYING ON THE RADIO) - ROXY MUSIC 18 12 ALL OVER THE WORLD - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 19 26 IT`S STILL ROCK N` ROLL TO ME - BILLY JOEL 20 42 IT`S ONLY LOVE/BEYOND THE REEF - ELVIS PRESLEY 21 13 FUNKIN` FOR JAMAICA - TOM BROWNE 22 24 MARIE MARIE - SHAKIN` STEVENS 23 41 I WANT TO BE STRAIGHT - IAN DURY AND THE BLOCKHEADS 24 28 BEST FRIEND/STAND DOWN MARGARET - THE BEAT 25 27 A WALK IN THE PARK - NICK STRAKER BAND 26 30 PARANOID - BLACK SABBATH 27 NE ONE DAY I`LL FLY AWAY - RANDY CRAWFORD 28 22 PRIVATE LIFE - GRACE JONES 29 25 YOU`VE GOTTA BE A HUSTLER IF YOU WANT TO GET ON - SUE WILKINSON 30 NE I OWE YOU ONE - SHALAMAR 31 31 SLEEPWALK - ULTRAVOX 32 40 MAGIC - OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN 33 23 LIP UP FATTY - BAD MANNERS 34 34 CIRCUS GAMES - SKIDS 35 16 MARIANA - GIBSON BROTHERS 36 39 I GOT YOU - SPLIP ENZ 37 21 MORE THAN I CAN SAY - LEO SAYER 38 NE UNITED - JUDAS PRIEST 39 38 SUMMER FUN - BARRACUDAS 40 42 BACK STROKIN` - FATBACK BAND DAVID BOWIE holding them all off in 1980, in a secondary story of "Major Tom". The JAM were almost there with "Start". Kelly Marie covered a song originally written for Elvis. Sheena Easton had 2 top 20 hits..9 to 5 was the newie..Modern Girl was the song she flopped with in 1979, after appearing with Esther Rantzen on "The Big Time". Hazel O` Conner`s first single, from the album. Gary Numan was doing his usual electronics, and no doubt eating lots of toast. The Pirahnas and Bob Grover covered a 1958 hit. Mike Berry was currently appeaering in 2 tv series (Are You Being Served, and Worzel Gummidge). He originally sany with the Outlaws in 1963, now he covered a song that was even being sung in the 1930s. Cliff cracked the top ten..He`ll be there next week, you know!! ;) Village People did the single from the Soundtrack to the film. The Clash sang about the criminal class "Daddy was a Bankrobber, but he never hurt nobody". The Gap Band took us to the dancefloor as we rowed across the floor in a make believe boat. George Benson recorded "Give Me The Night" in 1978, and 2 years later in the top 20. Elvis`s team put out a double A from the album. ELO, along with Olivia had 2 top 40 hits this week, from the film. The return of Billy Joel, who`s excellent single "Don`t Ask Me Why" did not chart before this one. Shakin`Stevens had his 2nd hit. Nick Straker took a "Walk In The Park", all round Europe in 1979, here he was in the UK in 1980. Tom Browne confused some, because they thought he was the UK DJ! Black Sabbath were back. Ian Dury was singing about a man with a disability..maybe his self here. Randy Crawford eventually scored a midweek number one, with her hit. The Beat urged Margaret Thatcher to stand down (unfortunately she did not listen)! :D Grace Jones got a hit for the first time. Sue Wilkinson had a strange rather almost banned record, but still appeared on Top Of The Pops. Judas Priest could have been doing a football anthem..and indeed the song was used a a tv programme of the same name. Early days for Shalamar. The Skids were playing at the "Circus". Split Enz were more or less Crowded House, with Neil and Tim Finn. The Barracudas were a fun outfit. On this particular outing for the Fatback Band..they were known as "Fatback". (The Vintage charts were compiled by Record Business Magazine for Independant Radio 1980). As I was slagging off the tv of today, let`s have a look at the tv shows from Sept 1980: 01 MORECAMBE AND WISE SHOW ITV 16.4M 02 CORONATION STREET 15.6M 03 COWBOYS ITV 15.3 04 JUST LIZ ITV 14.7 05 THE PROFESSIONALS ITV 14.1 06 KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY ITV 13.9 07 LARRY GRAYSON`S GENERATION GAME BBC 13.7 08 CORONATION STREET (WEDS) 13.5 09 BLANKETY BLANK (TERRY WOGAN) BBC 13.3 10 HER MAJESTY`S SECRET SERVICE ITV 12.8 11 CROSSROADS 12.6 12 HART OF THE YARD ITV 12.2 13 CROSSROADS TUES 11.7 14 GIVE US A CLUE (MICHAEL ASPEL) 11.3 15 YES MINISTER BBC 11.3 16 THAT LUCKY TOUCH ITV 11.3 17 TERRY AND JUNE BBC 11.0 18 ARTHUR C. CLARKE`S MYSTERIOUS WORLD ITV 10.7 19 PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT (BRUCE FORSYTH) ITV 10.5 20 CROSSROADS (WEDS) 10.4 Look at those..Comedy all the way, although Cowboys, and Just Liz were rather dire. Cowboys was made because there was studio space left, after Yootha Joyce sadily passed away following the final un-made moments of George And Mildred. Just Liz starred Sandra Payne..her fiance disappears abroad and she has to manage alone, until Reg (Rodney Bewes) turns up. Keep It In The Family was the viewers favourite sitcom of 1980, with Robert Gillespie, Pauline Yates, Stacy Dorning, and Jenny Quayle in the first 2 series. Hart Of The Yard was an American show, but starred Ron Moody (of Fagin fame), as a bumbling old fashioned sleuth on tenporary duty from Scotland Yard to San Francisco`s Police Department (I would say that next to MASH, and TAXI..this was the best U.S. series to bne shown in the UK). We all know Terry And June, I hope! It was in it`s 2nd series, following the original "Happy Ever After" series 1974 - 79. Happy Ever After was more or less the same thing as Terry And June (just a different writer i.e. John Kane). A great series, without a doubt..and no smut. Bruce Forsyth gave us "Play Your Cards Right", for the first time. Blankety Blank was at it`s best with Wogan, and Give Us A Clue (based on Charades), was always rather naff, along with Una Stubbs, and Lionel Blair at that point. The early 2 series of it, were even more silly because they used the same theme tune as BBC tv`s "Grange Hill". Hang on I will complete with the latest selling singles chart..so in Bruce Forsyth`s words (on Play Your Cards Right), Do hang loose, we`ll be back in a deuce..
September 5, 200816 yr Author Here`s the finish then. Although the top 2..doesn`t look too different, but look at NKOTB! :o Actually a quiet physical chart, with only 6 new entries in the top 40, this week. An easy physical win, for Katy (who sells 5,000 more than Eric). New Kids On The Block pass 2,735 physical copies, but that is 6,000 less than Eric Prydz. (The top physicals are compiled from stores across Britain, up to Friday Lunchtime). Here is the top 50, physical and downloads proper combined: 50 40 WE MADE IT - BUSTA RHYMES/LINKIN PARK 37) =42 49 42 LOW - FLO RIDA 36) =43 48 53 IN THE AYER - FLO RIDA - =45 47 NE CYANIDE - METALLICA - =bubbler 46 37 IF THIS IS LOVE - SATURDAYS 35) =40 45 31 THAT`S NOT MY NAME - TING TINGS 34) =38 44 35 BLACK AND GOLD - SAM SPARRO 33) =39 43 NE JUST STOP MOVING - SONNY J. - =41 42 39 WE CRY - SCRIPT 32) =36 41 52 BRUISED WATER - CHICANE/NATASHA BEDINGFIELD - =34 40 32 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 31) =37 39 33 WARWICK AVENUE - DUFFY 30) =33 38 NE JUST STAND UP - LAST STAND TO CANCER - =bubbler 37 NE HANDLEBARS - FLOBOTS - =42 36 30 I LIKE YOU SO MUCH BETTER WHEN YOU`RE NAKED - IDA MARIA 29) =not playlisted 35 28 BODY ON ME - NELLY AND CO. 28) =32 34 NE SUMMERTIME - NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK 27) =bubbler 33 29 TAKE A BOW - RIHANNA 26) =30 32 25 STAY WITH ME - IRONIK 25) =31 31 NE SMILIN`- BRYN CHRISTOPHER 24) =36 30 23 SHUT UP AND LET ME GO - TING TINGS 23) =29 29 26 FOREVER - CHRIS BROWN 22) =25 28 22 ALL I EVER WANTED - BASSHUNTER 21) =28 27 17 STEVE MCQUEEN - AUTOMATIC 20) =24 26 21 SWEET ABOUT ME - GABRIELLA CILMI 19) =21 25 24 SHE`S LIKE A STAR - TAIO CRUZ 18) =26 24 34 SPIRALLING - KEANE - =not playlisted 23 20 GIVE IT 2 ME - MADONNA 17) =22 22 16 CLOSER - NE YO 16) =20 21 10 DADDY`S GONE - GLAS VEGAS 15) =18 20 51 STEPPING STONE - DUFFY 14) =27 19 NE PADDY`S REVENGE - STEVE MAC - =23 18 41 MISS INDEPENDANT - NE YO - =17 17 14 WORLD SHOULD REVOLVE AROUND ME - LITTLE JACKIE 13) =16 16 NE COOKIE JAR - GYM CLASS HEROES - =19 15 18 BOYFRIEND - ALPHABEAT 12) =14 14 27 SEE YOU AGAIN - MILEY CYRUS 11) =15 13 13 VIVA LA VIDA - COLDPLAY - =13 12 12 NO AIR - JORDIN SPARKS 10) =12 11 09 LOVE IS NOISE - VERVE 9) =11 10 11 5 YEARS TIME - NOAH AND THE WHALE 8) =10 09 08 DANCE WIV ME - DIZEE RASCAL/CALVIN HARRIS 7) =9 08 05 MOUNTAINS - BIFFY CLYRO 6) =8 07 06 ALL SUMMER LONG - KID ROCK 5) =6 06 07 BEGGIN` - MADCON 4) =7 05 04 MAN WHO CAN`T BE MOVED - SCRIPT 3) =5 04 03 DISTURBIA - RIHANNA - =4 03 NE WHEN I GROW UP - PUSSYCAT DOLLS - =3 02 02 PJANOO - ERIC PRYDZ 2) =2 01 01 I KISSED A GIRL - KATY PERRY 1) =1 ) Is the position without downloads alone. Also without downloads alone: Estelle is 38, J. Majik is 39, and Sara Bareilles is 40. = Is the position on Chart Show tv. Crashing in for Pussycat Dolls means that Eric, and Katy have had it, but Katy easily sells more than Eric this week. Outside the top 50 stands: Colbie Caillet at 54, Basshunter (Angel In The Night) at 59..Mercy and Duffy is still in the top 60 along with Sara Bareilles, Madonna (4 Minutes), September, J. Majik, Estelle, and Metallica`s "Day That Never Comes", slips to 53 from 15! It`s top 70 for: M.I.A, Kings Of Leon (Fans), and Goo Goo Dolls (Iris). Miley Cyrus also has "7 Things", in the top 75. Friendly Fires, and also Mariah Carey don`t make the top 75, by a couple of places each. Next week look out for singles for: Cliff, Mogwai, Sam Beeton, Sigur Ros, Queen, and the physical of Sonny J. Look out for albums from: Glas Vegas, NKOTB, Bryn Christopher, Sasha, ZZ TOP, and compilation Hed Kandi: World Series Ibiza. NOTE: This is not the Official chart. It is based on Chart Show tv`s chart, minus airplay, and added sales to bring it up to date. The most up to date chart in Britain, infact. Don`t forget you can see Chart Show`s top 40, between 10am and 1pm, on Saturdays. The Chart Show (fomerly the ITV Chart Show), can be seen Monday evenings at 7pm. All on Sky Channel 365.
