September 18, 200816 yr I think he looks like Ray Quinn on the cover as well, the song itself was originally recorded by Stephanie Heinzmann, who won the Swedish talent show after Leon had won x-factor, it's on her debut album. http://www.last.fm/music/Stefanie+Heinzman...+Love?autostart
September 18, 200816 yr I just find that so sad though! I remember when I was a kid and my parents (well my dad mostly) playing Jim Reeves and Marty Robbins songs on the 'stereogram' and thinking ... when I grow up and have control of that machine ... I'm going to smash them friggin' Country 'n Western songs to pieces. I hate it when kids are influenced by their parents choice in music. I love Take That (and ELO, Level 42, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, etc) but I try to make my son listen to music of 'his generation'. In the car I purposely play the Arctics, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Kaiser Chiefs, McFly, and others to try to get him to listen to some 'up to date' stuff (OK - some of you may think even they are old-fashioned). I don't want him to listen to stuff just because it is my favourite thing. There is nothing more painful (and quite hilarious in a way) than watching programs like 'Stars in Their Eyes' ... and you have some 13 year old singing a Patsy Cline or a Brenda Lee song ... and you think - that kid is going to have the $h!t kicked out of them on Monday when they're back at school! Having said that ... it is nice when good music prevails ... he still asks me to play The Beatles most of the time! Norma I do take your point.. and it's good that you let your son develop his own choices. Personally I think the tastes of myself and my Dad are quite similar... don't think I'd be as big an Elton John fan if my Dad wasn't such a stupidly massive fan.. also the singer-songwriters I like so much (James Morrison, James Blunt, Lucie Silvas) are the only current people he likes so I think there's definitely always going to be a degree of similarity in tastes... I totally agree about your Stars In Their Eyes/Brenda Lee point (although it doesn't make me go back on my original point about Ray's passion for the genre, cool or not!) which is why I had hoped someone would work with Ray on some new swing/jazz material and not try to be a stale tribute to his heroes... As for russt - if Leon DIDN'T perform on X Factor his marketing team would be the single worst marketing team ever. It's a tough job to become a mainstay in the industry, he'd be absolute bonkers to avoid the X Factor at this stage. If and when he makes it huge, it may be a wise decision to try and distance himself but for now it's absolutely the best platform to bring the single to a) the people that voted him and B) a non snobby platform that just happens to be the biggest in the UK!
