September 29, 200816 yr As someone who has loved them both from a very early age. Let me tell you in all honesty that a lot of this started when walk this way was announced and the sugababes fans were disgusted that their band would collaberate with GA. Sorry but that is very true and i think started a lot of this. I know because i never used to visit the sugababes official forum but always went on the GA one and i went over to the sugababes forum for the first time and was amazed at what i was reading. September 29, 200816 yr Yeah in America they're a bit of a deal but here no-one really cares about MTV itself, never mind award shows shown! Dido releases her album the week after 'The Promise' and even though her single is out the same week as GA she will be focusing on promoting the album and therefore will save most promo for the week after. Dido releases her album on Nov. 4th, isn´t that the same week as The Promise is released? She will focus on the album but sometimes when album sales are big, that can have an effect on the single too. That´s how Coldplay managed to put "Viva La Vida" at #1 on the singles chart even before it had a music video or much airplay (cause at the time radios were still playng Violet Hill). And they didn´t even have a physical release of that song. Dido WILL have a physical release of the single, and will have a video on rotation too, so I think she has some chances. Her new single has just gone to #1 in the itunes in the countries where it´s already released (italy and spain) without any promo, so there´s no reason why she can´t do the same in the UK when it´s out!
September 30, 200816 yr Ive voted top three.. It is a good song, just not great. I know generally performing on the really big shows help singles sell more etc, but it doesnt always work.. Spice Girls LMAO. Children in Need single and one of the most talked about comebacks ever and look how well that did..
September 30, 200816 yr CTS did amazingley well.. but even that only peaked at #3 when it was probs the best track GA will ever produce and was one of the three best singles of the year. Its a shame what happend to Headlines, but the comeback was successful in terms of the tour.. i think it was just a poor song, and although lyrically it was good it wasnt very exciting and you would expect another Wannabe or SUYL from the girls. I think The Promise is awsome but I wouldnt be surprised if its a more 3-10-15 type of run, hopefully their is some kiss ass pop on Out of Control and another #1 in the waiting..
September 30, 200816 yr Headlines got quite a bad reception though. Radio 1 kept criticising it and only c-listed it and they performed on CIN from LA and it was mimed. Plus the cover was the plainest ever. So it wasnt a great start lol I think it will go to number one just because the x-factor should make it go to number one on itunes. Plus they are doing 5000 ltd edition picture discs which i think will sell out and its all gona be the same week.
September 30, 200816 yr CTS did amazingley well.. but even that only peaked at #3 when it was probs the best track GA will ever produce and was one of the three best singles of the year. But CTS was released on single a week after the album so it was always going to be a tough one to get to number one. I still reckon the promise will do really well, people keep messaging me saying its the first GA track they loved!
September 30, 200816 yr If you really need so , Sugababes appeared on Strictly Come Dancing after the single had charted at 8. Girls Aloud were at no.9 (around 100 copies away from no.8) before they performed on X Factor last year too though?! Dido releases her album on Nov. 4th, isn´t that the same week as The Promise is released?Nah, The Promise is released digitally and physically on 27th Oct with the album following 2 weeks later on 10th November.
October 3, 200816 yr 'The Promise' is now released physically 20th October, they're appearing on X Factor 18th and its available to download from 19th... the album will follow on 3rd November (i think). Edited October 4, 200816 yr by coolnav
October 4, 200816 yr hmm... this isn't a very good single at all - it sounds dated and pretty humdrum. It'll be massive - but then, if GA released a single of them farting in tune to Yellow Submarine, it'd be number one. Dull and very disappointng stuff from GA.....
October 5, 200816 yr It'll be massive - but then, if GA released a single of them farting in tune to Yellow Submarine, it'd be number one. Why? You talk as if Girls Aloud was as big now as the Spice Girls in the 90´s. In fact, the reason why they never miss the Top 10 is because they usually release just 2 singles after the album is out, and they come up with a new album every year. Their albums never sell much, which guarantee there is some public left to put their songs in top 10, but they have a few singles that just scrapped the Top 10 and fell like rock.

So it will not coincide with Dido´s new single anymore, neither the album (cause Dido´s was postponed to Nov 17th). Anyway, I wasn´t expecting Dido at #1 due to the complete lack of promo.

I do believe GA are one of the most recognised and sucessful UK music acts around and have been for the past 3 years. You're right, their last album had only 3 single releases from it but their other two studio albums (WWTNS and Chemistry) both had 4 singles with 3 released after the album went on sale. The most recent case of charting low at #9 went on to sell 135k, not too shabby i think you'll agree. In the past year alone, they've sold close to half a million singles proving that they really are an act to be reckoned with.
October 5, 200816 yr that week when cant speak french got to number 9 was so competitive and yeh it sold 135k. Also, if they had released a 4th single like girl overboard, it would have easily made top 10.

Yeah, but back then when downloads weren´t counted, or either were too small, it was relatively "easy" to have a Top 10 place, then drop like a rock. From now on it´s going to be harder.... I don´t think you can judge sucess based only on singles, their albums sales aren´t remarkable at all.
October 20, 200816 yr So has anyone changed their minds about this? I think we all know that anyone voted for No.5-10 and further down will be proven wrong this sunday.
