Posted June 6, 200619 yr A backbench tory mp has called for all householders to be allowed to have taser guns to defend them against burglars. What do think? Should we all chip in and buy Ozzy Osborne one for christmas.
June 7, 200619 yr I think that this is okay actually. Tasers are non-lethal (well, unless the person you hit has a pacemaker or summat...) and can effectively incapacitate an intruder for a fair period of time, certainly long enough for you to hog-tie the fukker and wait for the cops to arrive anyway..... (so, that'll be about three and a half hours then.....  )
June 7, 200619 yr I agree with a Tory for once in my life. I'd still rather use a baseball bat, personally, though (on the intruder, not the Tory... well... maybe that'd be killing two evils in one, I suppose....) :P
August 10, 20186 yr Bump. This goes back to the whole self-defence issue, in that, although we are allowed to defend ourselves, we *aren't* allowed to own some of the most effective means of doing so.
August 10, 20186 yr No. Bound to be used in anger against family members just like every other weapon, or children getting hold of it and killing a baby. I've been burgled while I slept. I have never felt I would have been better off having a gun to shoot whoever took my wages that week, or anything else. I feel I would have been better off having insurance to claim it back. Just to show people can be lovely, I worked in a factory at the time and they all had a whip-round for me to help with the loss of the money.

But did you not feel outraged at the violation of your property? Just to show people can be lovely, I worked in a factory at the time and they all had a whip-round for me to help with the loss of the money. It's stuff like this that maintains my tenuous faith in human nature.
August 10, 20186 yr But did you not feel outraged at the violation of your property? It's stuff like this that maintains my tenuous faith in human nature. No. I was more relieved they only took money, a watch & gloves. If they had taken my record collection I would have been gutted. I made sure the window they got in was more secure to stop it happening again BTW 7 kids die each day in the USA thanks to gun violence. Burglary has not been in any way eradicated and more people die from having guns in the house who aren't burglars. Few regular burglars are stupid enough to get caught, because the whole point is not to get caught. The burglar who stole my wages never got caught. I don't wish he was dead. Yes, I agree about getting that sometimes faith in the essential niceness of people, at least when times are good, and they were all low-paid photo lab staff. If there is one description of me that has followed me through my life it's "nice". (Hard to believe I know when I get going about Brexit ) A bit wishy-washy, but I think people do respond to nice with nice, on the whole. Nice is under-rated!

Few regular burglars are stupid enough to get caught, because the whole point is not to get caught. But they *do* eventually get caught, either through CCTV, or getting complacent. Burglars have to be lucky *every* time, while the police only have to get lucky once.

August 12, 20186 yr https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/ju...es-in-uk-solved It seems likely though, that some of these 'unsolved' crimes will have been committed by people convicted for other offences, but who could could not be specifically linked to them At the end of the day though, if the gov't cuts police funding, then they are at least partially to blame for the rise in crime.
