which ones did you like?

watching the current 'tess of the d'urbavilles' (excellant it is too), reminded me of past tv dramas set in the past. my favs were the ones that focused on ordinary people as opposed to the 'mr d'arcy' types...wealthy, landed gentry with scores of silly girls in big floral dresses swooning after him.. :puke2:

'i claudius' staring derek jacobi was a splendid story of the early roman empire and pretty true to life too. however the scenery was very dodgy!

'poldark' the saga of cornish tin miners, excellant for its script, storyline, scenery and its flawed hero's

'silas marner, the weaver of raveloe' staring ben kingsley (and patsy kensit who was pretty good), love it... a moving drama set in 18th centuary shropshire (i think...lol) charting the intermingling lives of the rich and poor, beautiful set, heart warming story.

I'm not a huge fan of period dramas on the whole, but I did like I Claudius,

Remember my mother being a big fan of Upstairs Downstairs, The Onedin Line & Poldark.

I quite enjoyed Poldark at the time, and I know it's not a period drama, but remember The Thorn Birds with Richard Chamberlain? I liked that, but maybe it's just a girl thing
