Heard an old record by Midge Ure recently and after I got over the shock it got me thinking, that it sounded very similar to the Bay City Rollers. Although its not exactly the same if you heard it on the radio there are similarities. I think Midge based Slik on the Rollers, how short sighted was that when their career was just about over and punk ready to explode

Anyone else agree....

Slik - Forever and ever

Bay City Rollers - Give a little love

What other artists sound or look very similar to you?

I'll get the obvious one out of the way first:

The Beatles - Rain (1966)

Oasis - Supersonic (1994)

indeed, he tried to take over the then dying bcr mania.. when he proved to be much better.

this is because a lot of the BCR songs were written by Bill Martin and Phil Coulter who also wrote Forever and ever and also....

Kenny - Fancy Pants (which also sounds like it should be released on Creation records in 1996  )

Kenny - The Bump (this is great!!!)

BAY CITY ROLLERS - THE BUMP

i think Travis should do a cover of the bump - it would be the only way they would be able to get back into the top ten...well if glasvegas can rip off barry manilow

think Slik - Forever and ever is much better than vienna...which is a dreadful record... the faders on the other hand i think would still be with us today if they followed up no sleep tonight by something more Suzi Quatro-ish...tho would be great to hear them do a cover of carter's Glam Rock Cops...maybe McFly could do a decent cover of it???

The Faders - No Sleep Tonight

Suzi Quatro - Devil Gate Drive

Carter USM - Glam Rock Cops

i dont agree tigerboy... 'forever and ever' better then 'vienna'?... no way no way!

the martin/coulter sound/brand of pop was goddamn AWFUL. it was aimed at young teenage girls... 'teenyboppers' <_< ..... bloody little girls having a say in music has been responsible for the success of shyte music... bcr in the 70's, s/a/w in the 80's ... plus 'heartthrobs' like donny osmond, david cassidy, bros, boyzone/pestlife etc... the charts would have been alot more respectable without 'girls' having a say!

If McFly so much as ever touch a song by Carter USM I will mash them with my fists.

I do love Kenny though - two ridiculous songs.

Early McFly a ripoff of Busted. Even now they're still rubbish.

something for Mushy here...a bad Cascada clone does a bad ultravox record (btw has there been a band called ultrafoxx before??? - that would be such a good name)

Novaspace - Dancing With tears In My Eyes

Novaspace - So Lonely

novaspace - beds are burning

midnight oil-dead heart

Midnight Oil - Truganini

Midnight Oil - My Country

Has anyone checked the Labour party conference to make sure Tim Booth has not become the MP for the Enviroment  - looking at this video it can only be before time... (tho i think James would like to be more favourably compared with REM in the slaphead stadium stakes)

Another two bands that had some early similarities were Japan and Duran Duran. Even Nick Rhodes the Duran keyboard player could be mistaken for David Sylvian lead singer of Japan. These two songs have some similar pieces in the background music, keyboards I think.

Japan - Quiet Life

Duran Duran - Planet Earth
