September 24, 200816 yr So it's not just because I was host that I think BJSC VII had some of the highest quality entries so far? Of the five contests I took part in, my rankings are like this: 1. BJSC VII - I just think the quality of entries was amazing. Out of the songs that were in the final I can only pick out four songs that I would skip if they came on during a shuffle. Superb top 10 too. (except Dima Bilan ) While it's my worst result yet, I still enjoyed it because it's kinda fun being host and knowing what happens before everyone. My only complaint would be that the winner was so predictable and it led all the way through the results, so it probably wasn't that fun to watch. 2. BJSC VI - Only because I won. :kink: Well no, I liked this one mostly because of the Green Room. It really made my first contest fun with the Fragma/N-Trance battle and the Serebro/Untouched stuff. But as Peter said, I felt quite lost as it was my first contest so I didn't really know what I was doing. It is also the only contest I've been in where I haven't ripped all of the songs to listen to them, so my memory of the songs (apart from the ones I liked enough to rip recently) is slightly blurred. There was naturally some rubbish in the final though because there wasn't a semi. 3. BJSC X - I don't know how they'll stand the test of time, but I have found some songs I really liked in this contest and it was the first time my 12 points went to the winner, if only because my favourite song failed to reach the final. Oh and Tom was probably the hardest working host I've witnessed so far and that showed. (not that I'm saying other hosts were lazy - we all put a lot of effort into it) 4. BJSC IX - I don't have much preference between these last two but I think the amount of good songs I discovered was slightly higher in this one, despite my top 2 points going to 'Migrate' and 'So What' which are songs I was very familiar with. Oh and this was my first 'hit' after two bad contests so it gets a bit of a boost. 5. BJSC VII - I can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but something about this contest is just quiet forgettable. It's not the hosting or even the songs as I made a few discoveries I love in that contest. (September, Koda Kumi, The Love Willows, Lily etc.) It just seems a bit of a blur to me, like I totally forgot about me sending Sara Bareilles until I heard it a few days ago.
September 25, 200816 yr I think not - it would certainly go top five :funky: but it's so dated :( it would be like Say You'll Be Mine by Steps coming top 5...a great but completely out of date pop song, at least Shady Lady is contemporary sounding

(September, Koda Kumi, The Love Willows, Lily etc.) It just seems a bit of a blur to me, like I totally forgot about me sending Sara Bareilles until I heard it a few days ago. good observations there...although I think all of the hosts have been excellent, Tom did seem to go the extra mile with the graphics, videos, coloured scoreboards etc...I'm a bit sad that the two times I've hosted, the song quality has been down across the board, as at the end of the day, it's mainly the songs that make the contest a hit or not. BJSC8's entries were a tad below par (including my own admittedly), a lot of good entries missed the final too (The Watson Twins, Carola, Hot Puppies), whilst a lot of rubbish made it and then finished at the bottom of the leaderboard -_- the Fragma/N-Trance battle of BJSCVI was quite hilarious, looking back I'm quite surprised Toca's Miracle finished as high as it did, considering the recent performance of excellent but too well known songs from Daft Punk and KT Tunstall in the final...I think the hype actually worked for David there!
September 25, 200816 yr Author Actually, I agree with the observation that BJSC VIII was actually a bit forgettable :o Little Boots kinda just blurred for me, all I really remember from it was the AMAZING Tata Young :( No fault of Rich's or anything, I think it just kinda paled in comparison to the amazing contest we had before, and the quality of the songs was a bit of a let-down given the AMAZING contest we'd had the month before, and the fact that everyone seemed to be going with safe artists :(

September 25, 200816 yr Author Indeed, the biggest 'risks' really were Ladyhawke and Little Boots - I have to say I didn't expect Ladyhawke to do as well as she did :o And we all know that Little Boots barely managed to avoid a flop :(
September 25, 200816 yr I considered Thermostatic quite risky :o shame it went slipped under the radar :( I seem to recall Little Boots picking up nothing for a long time in its semi final, and then a few big points helped to push you into the final at the end Ladyhawke shocked me as the points were rolling in...she seems to be the alternative act that it's ok for all the pop fans to like :heehee:
September 25, 200816 yr Author Just as Annie's the pop act that it's ok for all the alternative fans to like :kink:
September 25, 200816 yr Just as Annie's the pop act that it's ok for all the alternative fans to like :kink: indeed :o and then there's people like me the pair of them
September 25, 200816 yr My rankings of 7 contests i've part of :P : Best: BJSC7 (Quality of songs = best) BJSC10 (best host + amazing winner  ) BJSC6 (I hosted it :kink: Really liked the winner, the turning point of BJSC: from 25 countries participating to 40+ in the next contest) BJSC8 (Quality of songs + amazing host :kink: + amazing winner ) BJSC5 (I won there :kink: ) BJSC4 (My debut contest, liked some of the songs  ) BJSC9 (It's the worst contest IM(very)HO not because of the host surely, just i didn't like the top songs there, well except Into The NightLife one  and was quite disappointed with the results :( )
September 25, 200816 yr BJSC7 really coming out as the clear favourite here! I wonder if our 'Best Of' winner could be from this contest...any of that contests top 4 could be in with a realistic chance of doing very well...
September 25, 200816 yr Author I reckon Mine All Mine, Can't Let Go, I Believe, Will You Remember Me Tomorrow and a song from BJSC X will form the top 5 of the BBJSC :o
September 25, 200816 yr I don't know that I could predict the top five, but I do think it could be fully made up of songs from the last four contests the only song I fully expect to see in the final five, is Will You Remember Me Tomorrow?
September 25, 200816 yr Author I dunno, Can't Let Go's become a MASSIVE favourite since BJSC VII, I can't see that not going top five either :o
September 25, 200816 yr Is it sad that I've just re-watched the ESC Congratulations show? *Sigh* I loved it
September 25, 200816 yr I only gave it a few points at the time as well, I think it will be one of those songs that a lot of people give more points to than they did in the original contest
September 25, 200816 yr Is it sad that I've just re-watched the ESC Congratulations show? *Sigh* I loved it  I never saw it :o is it on the internet somewhere or do you have the DVD
September 25, 200816 yr I never saw it :o is it on the internet somewhere or do you have the DVD It was never released on DVD but I have it recorded on video from when it was on RTE at the time. There are small snippets on the internet but nothing much. I could probably copy it to DVD for anybody who would be interested in seeing it. It wasn't a big deal at the time but I think it's a must-see if you're a hardcore ESC fan. I was there of course ^_^
September 25, 200816 yr I reckon Mine All Mine, Can't Let Go, I Believe, Will You Remember Me Tomorrow and a song from BJSC X will form the top 5 of the BBJSC :o Interesting, that's only one winner there. I think it's entirely possible though...
