September 25, 200816 yr Interesting, that's only one winner there. I think it's entirely possible though... I still can't decide how well some of the winners will do...I know we are supposed to be voting for how cheap the songs were at the time etc... etc... but do we really want I Kissed A Girl/Love Song, which people would have heard without this contest eventually, to win over songs which we all only know and love because of this contest like WYRMT, Mine All Mine, Can't Let Go etc...
September 25, 200816 yr lucky you :o what exactly happened in the contest? were their live performances? Yep. The 14 songs competing were played on the big screen in their original performances, although some of the acts (Dana International, Brotherhood of Man, Sertab, Helena Paparizou, Johnny Logan and Mocedades) made surprise appearances on stage at the end of their song. It was the interval acts that were the best part though. There was a performance of Riverdance, and several medleys of Eurovision greats, some performed by their original artists, and some covers, like Dana International singing "Parlez Vous Francais," Anne Marie-David singing "Apres Toi" etc. Lys Assia, the first ever winner was there, Katrina opened the show singing "Love Shine A Light" (goosebumps), and Linda Martin, Eimear Quinn, Charlie McGettigan and Jakob Sveistrob provided backing vocals for the entire show. It was brilliant! :D And I met Helena Paparizou and Gali Atari (singer of my favourite ever ESC song) which was a bonus ^_^ Edited September 25, 200816 yr by Peter30
September 25, 200816 yr sounds great :o I'd love to see an actual Eurovision show live but I'm not going to Russia :heehee: if it comes anywhere remotely Western anytime soon, I'll try and make the effort to see if I can go

Of course, if I audition and win the UK's song for Europe competition this year then there's my shortcut :P
September 25, 200816 yr well sounds like you'd have to win an X Factor style show  not quite as easy as it used to be by the looks of it :o I'd love to see Melodifestivalen too, are you planning on going to the final or one of the semis?

Hopefully the final, but I hear the tickets sell like hotcakes!! If I can't get tickets I'll go and see a dress rehearsal for the final and watch the final in some bar in Stockholm
September 25, 200816 yr I don't doubt it :o MF 2008 was amazing, I found it funny to see the host always reading off a script/out of a large book though, is this commonplace in Sweden, do they note rehearse their lines  oh well, I'm sure if you see the final, Sanna Nielsen's bound to be there  she was robbed this year  I still like Hero more than Empty Room, but it would have been nice to see Sweden try something a bit different...

Not all of us love WYRMT, Mine All Mine, Can't Let Go. :P No offense to those songs or anything, just don't see the appeal whatsoever. I'm voting for my favorite songs, plain and simple, as I always do. I knew about the Knife's Heartbeats wayyyy before this contest yet I still gave it my 12 because it is phenomonal. Chances are, if it's in the Congratulations contest, it will get my 12 again (or perhaps my previous 12s...Bjork, Yelle, etc.) I don't care if a song is new, old, 'cheap', etc. If it's a good song, it's a good song and it will take preference. I'm not gonna give songs bonus points if I didn't know about it before the competition; it gets it's rightful place. Hell, I'd even give Toxic / Gimme More/Womanizer (if it's good) high points, even if those would be the cheapest entries EVER. But, in the end, they'd do well because they are in fact brilliant songs, so fair enough, whereas if someone entered in Girls by Sugababes it would flop because it's a pile of $h!t. That's just how I do it. Though my tastes are far more obscure (well, open minded really) than most of Buzzjcak...considering like 95% of my chart is stuff that hasn't even chart in the UK Top 40. Or any top 40 for that matter.
September 25, 200816 yr different strokes for different folks and all that :P N-Trance's Set You Free is my favourite song of all time, but I wouldn't have dreamed of giving it 12 points in BJSCVI as I prefer to distribute my points to songs that I have discovered via this contest
September 25, 200816 yr my tastes are far more obscure (well, open minded really) than most of Buzzjcak although your chart is obscure granted, it is very much one or two genres (indie/alternative) look at CJ's chart, that's what I call open minded, everything from Cliff Richard and Queen, to Katy Perry, Blackout Crew, Gym Class Heroes, Coldplay and Kings Of Leon

September 25, 200816 yr Not all of us love WYRMT, Mine All Mine, Can't Let Go. :P No offense to those songs or anything, just don't see the appeal whatsoever. And that is why you are a three time winner whilst we are only one-hit-wonders  I could quite easily see a song winning this contest which didn't win its final - A lot of people will not like voting for the winners both because they have gone off them/got bored of them and because they never liked them in the first place

Plus everyone seems to be still obsessed.

I don't know a lot of the songs granted, but 90% of the artists I see in your chart have topics in the indie rock/alternative forum, so I just assumed -_- I apologise if I'm wrong, I didn't mean to offend, I just think that although it might seem that a lot of people on Buzzjack are closed minded, they are probably more open minded than you might think...for example, I particularly liked the compilation that Ryan on chc sent me earlier in the year, featuring these artists: Mates Of State Zoot Woman Apparat Statistics Stars Wolf Parade Reverie Sound Revue Elsiane Maria Taylor The Dears Cut Copy MGMT Under The Influence Of Giants Neon Neon Stars Vampire Weekend Casiotone For The Painfully Alone Broken Social Scene Feist The Postal Service Architecture In Helsinki granted they aren't the type of artists that usually appear in my chart, but that's because I don't actively listen to this music, perhaps if I took a bit more effort to look into the back catalogue of these artists, my music tastes would seem more diverse

I mean, I'm just saying if you look at a lot of Buzzjack well...a lot of people are pretty close minded. Anything that is 'different' from the norm of music is deemed bad. Or they just have no desire to hear anything that is a little different. I wasn't offended or anything, just trying to explain my taste in music. ^^; My favorite genre is actually electronic. :o

MGMT and a couple of Camille's album tracks are due to enter at the weekend... I do think that this contest has helped to broaden my musical spectrum a fair bit, as well as I suppose my music tastes naturally developing...I do tend to like a bit of everything nowadays, be it Boyzone and Miley Cyrus or the acts I mentioned above  but I suppose I can see what you mean, it is largely female pop dominated on here -_- which is why I usually send female pop entries
September 25, 200816 yr Awful [*]III just to comment on this as I forgot to earlier, you know BJSCIII was a weak contest when I deemed Nik Kershaw's The Riddle to be one of my five favourite songs of the show
September 25, 200816 yr XD I think WYWRMT will win though. ;o Even if I don't like it, I can see why BJ likes it. Plus everyone seems to be still obsessed. I genuinely don't think it stands a chance but we'll see - there are some very good songs to be chosen from. All this chat about the 'Will It Have A New Name Tomorrow?' Contest is rather distracting us from BJSC XI
September 25, 200816 yr if I did an odds thread right now, WYRMT would be the favourite for sure, followed by a handful of the BJSC7 entries, Beverley Knight, Brandy and tATu...I do think the majority of the top ten will come from the later contests
