Posted June 7, 200619 yr this is a online q&a section of USATODAY Hartford, CT : Hi Edna, I think that the heads of American Idol 's parent company do a terrible job of promoting their winners on the International market. For example, my current favorite singer is Darius, who came in third in the first UK competion . He writes his own music and his last cd Live Twice was amazing and very US commercial soundingbut you have to buy everything on import. Why don't they take some of their international, or past winners and use them as tour openers, special guest etc on contest in other countries? It would only deepen the franchise. We don't even hear the Canadian idol stuff here! Edna Gundersen: It seems to me that promotion is the Idol franchise's key skill, and they limit plugging winners to their respective markets because that's where they were exposed on the talent shows. Pushing them elsewhere means starting from the ground up, which is expensive. The TV show is their ace, a huge blast-off for the careers of singers who most likely wouldn't have a prayer otherwise. http://transcripts.usatoday.com/Chats/transcript.aspx?c=212 just thought it nice to see him mentioned
June 7, 200619 yr Thanks for that PIP, you have been busy. Yes it is great to see that. Do hope he is getting the chance to make an impression but suppose he will be held back by 19 management over there.
June 7, 200619 yr That fan obviously doesn't know that Darius is the last idol contestant who would be given the teensiest publicity if they ever did decide to do such things. It's not in Idol's interests. Darius was a rebel throughout - allegedly refusing to sign certain clauses in the final ten contract, giving Simon as good as he got on Big Band night, being prepared to walk out over the right to sing what he wanted and making Simon back down, the "poisoned chalice" remarks on Scotland Today, leading the fight for a better cut of the tour income for the ten, turning down Simon and Pete, doing what they warned him not to and still succeeding. That's not exactly what they'd like to promote. Edited June 7, 200619 yr by Baytree
June 8, 200619 yr Isn't it wonderful that an international fan is championing Darius' cause( well talking very positively about him :D ) Now if we could just convince the other 200,000,000 Americans, he might get a little more of the success he truly deserves ;) Edited June 8, 200619 yr by B.P.
