I love Nightwish (pre-Anette) and I have watched the video of their entry for the Finnish ESC selecting thingy (2000) and I have to say.... THEY WERE ROBBED! :o

Yep indeed. Because of their silly voting system, it didn't get to go. This was the clear public favourite, but the juries didn't agree.

 

Because of the big difference in the votes, they ended up sending a very bland song that scored moderately with the public and juries, and as a result they came near the bottom and missed the 2001 contest.

 

Nightwish have said they wouldn't enter again which is a shame :(

not sure if a rock song could have won in 2000 but this is another classic case of 'could have been'

 

just like Cyndi could have won last year (although probably not)

 

Sanna could have won it for Sweden this year (although again, with the Eastern dominance right now, probably not)

and I thought Finland's 2000 song was alright, although the lyrics were incredibly cheesy, I hate run throughs of country/city names in songs, unless it's done in jest like Dustin The Turkey/Scooch

Yeah, I guess that type of song wouldn't have won back in 2000. That type of music was associated with 'goths', who were a minority that nobody liked back then... well... in Ireland anyway. :P

 

But the song is just so dreamy. :wub: You just want to runaway to a land far far away... :mellow:

I really like Nightwish and was really hoping they would have gone through to ESC 2000 but TBH, for their very successful career after that it probably was better that they didn't qualify and they are not associated with ESC by the public. The song was so much better than the bland, terrible song that was chosen. I don't think Europe was quite ready enough for this kinda song to win in 2000 but I think it could have had easily a top 5/10 finish.

Nightwish certainly were robbed, and I thought so at the time as well.... This song was so much better than Lordi's, hands down.... Lordi winning the thing a few years back must've really riled Tuomas and Tarja because Lordi won with a clearly inferior, feeble song in comparison to this absolute gorgeousness....
