September 26, 200816 yr Review: Will Young is devoid of cheese **** http://thelondonpaper.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/09/26/willyounggig.jpg Cadogan Hall IT'S hard not to like Will Young. Easily one of the UK’s most successful reality TV exports he’s long managed to shrug off the whiff of cheese that is usually married to a career carved from television, and flourished. Now well on his way to being a modern day George Michael, without the dodgy drug habit, tonight’s intimate showcase of tracks from his new record is a masterclass in solo-dom. Effortlessly wooing the crowd with pitch perfect shimmying vocals and a perma grin smile it’s not just the music that makes Young so loveable. His coquettish boy charm and chuckle-along banter has the ladies - actually, and the fellas - hanging off his every word. One thing’s for sure: the ultimate one-man band pop purveyor Will is back, and if last night’s charm offensive is anything to go by he’s going to be around for a while. http://thelondonpaper.typepad.com/thelondo...w-will-you.html Edited September 26, 200816 yr by sunday
September 26, 200816 yr That's a fantastic review sunday and thanks for posting it, off over to Devoted now to read all the reports from last night. :D
September 26, 200816 yr What was the setlist? Sound? How was the banter? Did he pledge his undying love for me
September 27, 200816 yr Here you go F/G. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb152/gillwill_photos/cadogansetlist.jpg I'm sure most have read all the reports about a truly special evening. Will's voice has never sounded better & I loved the mix of songs on the setlist, except for LIAMOD but I'll excuse him that one. :) We had brilliant seats, first of the tiered stalls & the perfect view. Will is building up a lovely rapport with the band, in particular the two backing singers who I thought were excellent. He's told us repeatedly how much he's enjoying performing again & that was so evident watching him on stage. He just seems to live his music. You could have heard a pin drop during You Don't Know. He sang with such emotion drawing the audience with him, both taking time to recover at the end with a pause before rapturous applause, pure magic. In contrast he was bouncing around the stage giving it his all on the more upbeat numbers such as great and Your Game. Absolutely adored his Joan Armatrading cover & BIOTS has always been a favourite with me, delivered once againwith such heartfelt emotion. Only downside it was over too quickly but then again Will always leaves us wanting more. Roll on the tour.
September 28, 200816 yr Thanks to Pauline. SUNDAY MIRROR 28TH (Zoe) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will's In Fine Voice: Will Young delivered a lovely performance at the small Cadogan Hall in London on Thursday evening - despite having earlier picked up yet another parking ticket, adding to a recent bad run of fines. He said"I tried to shoo the warden away but it didn't work."I just seem to collect tickets. Will is always ultra-polite and a bit nervous on stage, but his singing is world class. :cheer:
September 28, 200816 yr Thanks for that snippet from the sunday mirror TT and it's something we fans can always agree on,his singing is world class without a doubt. :cheer:
September 30, 200816 yr Will Young Cadagon Hall, Chelsea added: 30 Sep 2008 // gig date: 25 Sep 2008 reviewer: Mark Youll Will Young doesn’t do things by halves. So, after six years sitting amongst the cream of British pop, not to mention a reputable acting career in tow, it soon becomes clear that his latest move, shaking the ever- elaborate Cadagon Hall, a sophisticated venue shaped for concerto’s not concerts, into his own pop playpen to publically unveil tracks from his eagerly awaited new album Let It Go, deserves a round of applause in itself, long before this former Pop Idol hits the stage. When he does appear, dressed in stripes, all shy and smiles, almost like a glossy moving cut-out of himself '... like a ladybird if you will..', he wastes no time in bringing a 800- strong sea of frantic devotees to their feet, clapping to the funky strains of 'Very Kind’ and 'Love Is A Matter Of Distance’ . As well as road-testing new songs in 'You Don’t Know’, the infectious 'Grace’, the hauntingly stunning 'Let It Go’,or even the instant classic 'Changes’, it’s entirely possible that tonight, could also an unveiling of a new Will Young. A Will Young that, once everyone had turned their backs, has steadily raised his game. There is an unmistakable change in his pop pace, a jump in his pop delivery. Even the hits like 'Your Game’ and the ever-emotive 'Leave Right Now’ have been granted new wings as they are lined with symphony strings and super-slick arrangements that almost weaken the originals. But it’s Young’s unique take on a flow of convincing covers, Stevie Wonder’s 'Blame It On The Sun’, Joan Armatrading’s 'Show Some Emotion’ and Joni Mitchell’s 'Help Me’ which truly magnify this pop supremo’s courageous versatility, making these pop classics, and this night, his very own. **** http://www.music-news.com/ShowReview.asp?H...mp;nType=3& Edited September 30, 200816 yr by sunday

October 5, 200816 yr Thanks to mrsSoul. Sunday Financial Times. Sunday Times Cadogan review -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No prizes for guessing who Will Young wants to be. On the cover of his latest album, Let It Go, the singer sports stubble, short back and sides and a discreetly expensive black suit teamed with a T-shirt. Inside is a slick, inoffensive collection of soul-pop songs about breaking up with a boyfriend, which, marketed right, could sell copious quantities on both sides of the pond. Now that George Michael has confined his touring to lavatories, his shiny shoes are there for the taking. A low-key show at a classical venue, the Cadogan Hall, proved Young has the potential to fulfil his ambition. Due to turn 30 in January, he still has the boyish looks and slim build of the 23-year-old who found fame on Pop Idol, while his voice has shed some of its whine and gained greater depths of effortless soul. Young’s stagecraft, however, could do with a polish. On his arrival, he wandered aimlessly back and forth, as though unsure where to stand. His opening gambit to an almost exclusively female audience was about his pastel, pinstriped jacket. “I’m wearing stripes,” he announced. “Like a ladybird, if you will.” People looked puzzled, but laughed nonetheless. Young’s nerves early on were understandable. Released last week, Let It Go is his first studio album in three years and, bar a few summer festival slots, the concert his first chance to play the songs live. Backed by a four-piece band on strange, ascending platforms behind him, Young clung on to his mic stand for the opener, Very Kind, but loosened up during the old hit Love Is a Matter of Distance. As an introduction to Let It Go, the smooth R&B ballad Disconnected didn’t bode well. Worse, when the song was over, Young took a cue from R Kelly, part-singing, part-purring a welcome to an all-blonde, female string quartet. Sorry, Will, but a middle-class Brit boy with a politics degree was never going to pull that one off. From then on, though, Young was superb. Stripped to acoustic guitar and strings, You Don’t Know was classy, sensitive soul, Let It Go channelled vintage Simply Red and his current single, Changes, brushed aside its dubious nods to George Benson thanks to the singer’s sassy duelling with two vigorous backing vocalists. By now, Young had shed his jacket to reveal a black silk shirt and was fending off calls from female fans to strip off even more. Often accused of being pompous, his chat was surprisingly self-deprecating and, on occasion, extremely funny. “I am safe up here, aren’t I?” he asked, feigning fear, when one Scottish woman started screaming that she loved him. When he talked about getting a parking ticket and pulling a pop-star strop, it was with the comic timing of a seasoned stand-up. An encore ended with his five-year-old hit Leave Right Now, a song Young has yet to surpass. That he sang it standing stock still, his arms limp by his sides, yet still managed to move several fans to tears, said much about the power of his voice. As the crowd was ushered out, there was a fight for the free, plastic keyrings showing a shot of Let It Go’s cover that lingered on the seats. If Young plays it right, they could be worth a fair few quid in a couple of years. by Lisa Verrico I think this is a brilliant review coming from the Times. They haven't always been too complimentary about Will's live performances.
October 5, 200816 yr Thanks for bringing that over TT, as the review goes on, you can actually tell that he was winning her over, he has a special talent for doing that I think, he had me from the moment he looked into the camera on PI and that voice grabbed me nearly 7 years ago.
