Here is a List of the Albums that have spent the

'Most Weeks' on the UK Album Chart. (It is for the Top 75

- or smaller - depending on how old the Album is).

***OOPS! I forgot that the Album Chart was 'Officially' a Top 100

between 8th August 1981 & 14th January 1989. Any of these Albums

that were Charting during those Years, (Queen, Bob Marley etc.),

will have Positions between No.76 to No.100 included in their Totals.

However, Various Artist Compilations were allowed into the Top 100

in those days, so any Positions for Queen etc. between No.76 & No.100

would be the same as having a Top 75 Position now, really.

* = An Album has Charted THIS Year - Top 75.

(The figure in Brackets = Weeks On Chart THIS Year).

@ = CURRENTLY CHARTING

TO THE CHART FOR W/E 1st NOVEMBER 2008 - INCLUSIVE

Position/Weeks On Chart/Title/Act

1) 478 Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

2) 474 Bat Out Of Hell - Meat Loaf

3) 469 Greatest Hits - Queen ( * = 7) @

4) 382 The Sound Of Music - Film Soundtrack

5) 377 Gold - ABBA (* = 19) @

6) 372 The Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd

7) 367 Legend - Bob Marley And The Wailers (* = 25) @

8) 315 South Pacific - Film Soundtrack

9) 307 Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon And Garfunkel

10) 283 Greatest Hits - Simon And Garfunkel

11) 282 War Of The Worlds - Jeff Wayne / Various Artists (* = 4)

12) 278 Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield

13) 274 Face Value - Phil Collins

14) 251 Making Movies - Dire Straits

15) 242 The Immaculate Collection - Madonna (* = 3)

16) 231 Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits (* = 3)

17) 203 Under A Blood Red Sky - U2

18) 201 Thriller - Michael Jackson

19)=200 Love Over Gold - Dire Straits

19)=200 The King & I - Film Soundtrack

21)=198 Nevermind - Nirvana

21)=198 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles

23)=189 Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman $$

23)=189 Off The Wall - Michael Jackson

$$ = The 'Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles'

(2006), gives the Tracy Chapman Album 189 Chart

Weeks. However, I should point out that, 'The

Complete Book Of The British Charts', (2004), &

'Complete British Hit Albums', (2004), both give

it 188 Weeks.

I'm assuming all the Queen's GHs albums are all combined, hence 3 in brackets

No Mart!n - it is ONLY 'Greatest Hits' (One). The 3 in Brackets means

that it has - so far - spent 3 Weeks in the Top 75 this Year:,

W/E 20th September - No.51 (Re-Entry)

W/E 27th September - No.31

W/E 4th October - No.37

If the Weeks On Chart of 'Greatest Hits II' & 'Greatest Hits III' had been added

in, Queen would be No.1 in the List - with close to 600 Weeks On Chart. I would

never add all 3 Queen 'Hits' Albums together - by Sales or Chart Weeks - as I

think that all 3 should be treated as entirely seperate Albums - which is what they

are. (Except in 'The Platinum Collection' - as all 3 are in that Set, & that Set stands

on its own too - by both Sales & Weeks On Chart).

'Greatest Hits II' - 108 Chart Weeks (* = 2 Weeks - so far - in 2008)

'Greatest Hits III' - 19 Chart Weeks

Added to 'Greatest Hits' (One), they'd give Queen 592 Weeks - and would

certainly put them far ahead of 'Rumours' in the List, had I combined the

3 Album's Chart Weeks.....

so just to clarify- the number of weeks quoted for GH1 by queen above doesn't include any of the platinum collection's chart weeks (as GH1 is contained within it?), so you could argue that GH1 has prob won already if you were being contraversial!

Cool list btw! haven't seen an up to date one for a while!

Yes, Spicefunk, the 465 Weeks that 'Greatest Hits' (One), has does NOT include

any Weeks from 'Greatest Hits II' or 'Greatest Hits III'. Adding those in would

put Queen in 1st place - with 592 Weeks.

NOTE - I originally gave 'Greatest Hits II' 106 Chart Weeks yesterday, but I

forgot that it has been back in the Top 75, in the past 2 Weeks - No.67, (W/E

27th September), & No.65, (W/E 4th October). So that Album is on 108 Chart

Weeks.

Also, if we were to add in the Double CD - 'Greatest Hits I & II' - from 1994,

(No.37), that would give 'Greatest Hits' 7 more Chart Weeks.

Add in 'The Platinum Collection', (No.2 in 2002), & that would give 'Greatest

Hits' another 155 Chart Weeks - as that Triple Set has all 3 Queen 'Hits' Albums

in it.

That would be an extra 162 Chart Weeks for 'Greatest Hits' = 627 Weeks

On Chart - plus 127 Weeks from 'Greatest Hits II', (108 Weeks), & 'Greatest

Hits III', (19 Weeks) = 754 Weeks. So, Queen would be way ahead of everything

else in the List, if we added their 'Greatest Hits' Albums, & Hits Sets together.

However - I don't believe it is right to do that, & 'Greatest Hits' (One), should

only have its 465 Weeks as an Album on its own counted. At present, that puts

it in 3rd place in the 'Most Chart Weeks' List.....

thanks for explaining. didn't think you were (or should) add the GH2 or 3 weeks as they are diff CDs but the plat collection weeks and GH1&2 sets do contain GH1 in its entirety, so you could argue the merits of this (best kept separate i say). Thinking of the OCC's rule change regarding additional content with original albums i wonder how the chart weeks will be distributed in the future though, as there are no longer limits to extra tracks and as GH1 came 1st, the platinum collection or GH1&2 could merely be seen as an extension of GH1 (i think the new rules are confusing and need to rule out this kind of thing), though i don't know if they will apply retrospectively or only to those albums released after the rule change

Can't you buy the Queen GH as a 3-cd collection nowadays?
Can't you buy the Queen GH as a 3-cd collection nowadays?

Yeah that's what the platinum collection is- Is basically GH1,2 and 3 in a silver slipcover. Usually about £13 in shops (may be cheaper some places)

I didn't add 'Thriller 25's Weeks to those of

'Thriller', because I don't know if any future

Chart Books will. The OCC does NOT add their Sales

together. It counts them as 2 different Albums.

I don't know if that will change, now that The

OCC has altered its Rules about what can be added

to an Album, & still have it counted as the same

Album as the original version.

Anyhow, 'Thriller 25' reached No.3, & spent 18

Weeks in the Top 75. Add those Weeks to 'Thriller',

& it gets 219 Chart Weeks, & would be No.17 in

the 'Most Chart Weeks' List, rather than No.18.

Wino has to be in that :heehee:

Pavel - I take it that you mean Amy Winehouse? That she should be in the List?

Wrong!

'Back To Black' - 73 Chart Weeks

'Back To Black' (Deluxe Edition) - 47 Chart Weeks - to latest Chart - W/E 4th October

Even if we add the 2 together, it is still 'only' 120 Chart Weeks - nowhere near enough

to make the List.
