hey,

quick and probably sill question regarding charts and downloaded tracks.

this is an example: i have bought katy perrys album and say to my mates that 'ur so gay' is the best song ever, and they must download it. they do, and they tell there mates and in the end 324 people download it that day because i said it was good. before long 1200 people download it and it gets to number 64 in the chart.

5 weeks later katy perry decides to release ur so gay. do the 1200 downloads already done count towards this number,or does she effectively start from zero?

just because if she missed number one by 1000 copies surely she could be mightily pissed off as 1200 have previously downloaded it?

thanks for any help, its been puzzling me for a while..!

i think the album track would be #64 and then say leave the top 75 and re-enter when katy releases it, and then the 1200 copies would add to the total sales of the track in the end of year chart.

i think that happend to dont stop the music, cuz it never really made a big impact in the charts, but was listed on the top 200 sellers of 2007!

It would count towards her total sales, as Rob said but the sales would not be added to the first "official" week single sales

Sales only count for the week that they are sold, they can't be carried over

It counts towards the album sales and not the 'singles sales' if it does manage to become a single and not just only an album track.
Eh? why would it count towards the album sales - its only 1 track

agreed. don't think thats the case at all. Would be added to total digital single sales

Eh? why would it count towards the album sales - its only 1 track

Sorry, I mean't the individual album track sales at first, then added to a singles overall sales once/if released properly since it was already downloaded.

yeah think thats it. would just be "loose" sales of the album track which could chart on the singles chart in their own right, but once released as a single the total sales would be added together with that of the single (all formats subject to chart rules), and album track sales would be counted in with single sales for chart position etc too
