October 18, 200816 yr BBC Radio 1 chartblog: Celine Dion - 'My Love' * Fraser McAlpine * 14 Oct 08, 10:32 AM Celine DionThere are some artists for which the whole process of a review seems a little bit unnecessary. Cliff Richard, for example: he's been in this business a long time, and it's unlikely that there's anyone out there who hasn't made their mind up about him one way or the other by now. The same applies to Celine Dion - we all know what we're likely to get from her, and it's something most of us have a pre-determined opinion on, to the extent where individual singles make absolutely no difference. (Caveat: My friend insists that she once rapped on a song, but I'm not sure if I believe him.) 'My Love' is unlikely to change anyone's mind, Celine-wise. It's a heartfelt, perhaps slightly overwrought ballad*, which begins with a long section where Celine sings acapella before the piano kicks in - and indeed why shouldn't she, because she's got the chops for it. I'll lay my cards on the table here: it's not really my sort of thing, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate it on its own merits when it's being done well. And it is here, pretty much. There's some rather peculiar pronunciation going on ("malluuhhhrve") but that's all part of her charm, I suppose, and I think it's safe to say that people who've enjoyed her previous work will find plenty to enjoy here. I daresay there'll be many of you who didn't even make it this far because you already knew how you felt about this song, whether it be "yay!" or "nay sad.gif" before you even got to the cut-link, but those of you who came in here in the hope I might reveal that this was the beginning of Celine's experimental and exciting new grunge-rock direction - sorry, no dice. Considering everything I've written above I'm grading this not in terms of how it appeals to me personally, but in terms of how it fits in the general canon of Celine, which I think is the fairest way to do this. So: Four stars :cheer: Download: Out now CD Released: October 13th www.celinedion.com (Steve Perkins) * Part of the reason this isn't as startlingly irritating a Celine Dion song as some is that it is relatively subtle. I mean she can sound like Meat Loaf being hit by lightning, so she deserves some credit for this, even if it is still massively theatrical compared to, say, Laura Marling. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/chartblog/2008/...n_my_love.shtml
October 22, 200816 yr That's it's official release Peter, this is really disappointing, but again she's an album seller not a single seller.
October 22, 200816 yr there was a time which i will fondly remember when she had no trouble selling singles at all,it was top 10 hit after top 10 hit
October 22, 200816 yr It's top 180 now. Not much of a difference but at least it won't completely flop. Celine did go through a 'singles' stage but that was really off the back of the Titanic, now I think tv/radio just think she's past her sell by date.
October 22, 200816 yr It's pretty weird how this has gotten a single release while ''Taking Chances,'' which debuted at #40 on downloads alone, didn't  I'm wondering for how long Sony BMG are going to keep releasing singles...if they all flop they are not making any money out of it.
October 22, 200816 yr On a positive note, My Love is not doing too badly on US AC radio. 3 new stations added it yesterday. It's #18 on the daily AC chart and might rise to #17 pretty soon.
October 22, 200816 yr i agree with you but i will be buying my copy on saturday and if i can't find it then i will download it
October 22, 200816 yr Billboard AC chart: 25-20-(new position will be known tomorrow) http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/char...0&g=Singles
October 22, 200816 yr Thanks. Thats not bad at all. I've ordere my copy of the single and am waiting for it to arrive.
October 23, 200816 yr Author I knew this would flop. I wish they had recorded a brand new single for the best of album and released it as a single with a physical release. At this rate, Celine doesnt stand much chance of singles success if sony keep putting in the minimum effort.
