October 10, 200816 yr Author :heehee: 'Quickly' off John Legend's album Evolver has leaked. The song features Brandy. It's really pretty good in a smooth-R&B-grower-ballad sense.
November 27, 200816 yr 08 'The Definition' 07 'Warm It Up (With Love) 09 'Right Here (Departed)' 08 'Piano Man' 09 'Long Distance' 07 'Camouflage' 07 'Torn Down' 08 'Human' 08 'Shattered Heart' 07 'True' 07 'A Capella (Something's Missing)' 08 '1st & Love' 08 'Fall' A weirdly consistent album. There's nothing terrible but nothing AMAZING-10-worthy there. It all sits in the 07-08 mark with the two singles being the best songs here and the obvious 09s. I love the whole concept to this record. The album title is fitting. It's all about being 'Human': love, regrets, emotions but it escapes cliché thanks to fairly decent lyrics but more importantly brilliant production. These beats are quirky, fresh and deep. The vocal arrangements too are fairly idiosyncratic. Harking back to Immi Heap as my nearest sensible comparison (esp on the likes of 'A Capella' for example). She layers her vocals in a really astute, original manner; they build up along with the instrumentation throughout. I love the combination of synth/piano/guitar, it's fantastically orchestrated. A lot of time has obviously gone into this album's conception too. The tracks don't follow that typical format of verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus/chorus with monotone laborious instrumentation. There are loads of subtle changes and build-ups: melody changes, tempo alterations and scrambled vocals. It's just a refreshing album. In many ways it reminds me of a more soulful and melodic 'Blackout'. It's edgy-as. But most of all I actually love Brandy. She's a woman who's lack of major success has been (imo) the key to her releasing consitantly good music. The likes of Beyoncé and co are all ego and robot in their approach to their musical craft. Brandy is REAL and emotive and yes...HUMAN. Fantasticness. <3
November 27, 200816 yr Very unimpressed with this album, not a single track that makes me want to listen again
November 27, 200816 yr Author  The album is won-der-ful. I entirely agree Jake, there's a very obvious concept here. She's human, she's warm, and I think that's what people (America) needed to say after the car crash incident. I recon that shaped this record to an extent.
November 28, 200816 yr Author If she does not release Piano Man she's absolutely crazy. It's basically waiting to be her biggest hit.
