June 8, 200619 yr I am not a fan of either, i think SW has a good voice but it is really bland and sounds like he only has two tones to it :) , i think Gareths voice is better with more range :D [ well more than SW anyway :P ]
June 8, 200619 yr I hope GG does do well,I really liked the upbeat track he did [was it called sunshine ?] i think he has more talent than SW :D Yes it was Sunshine and unfortunately there were several other similar tracks on Gareth's second album which very few people, other than his biggest fans, got to hear and the majority of those fans could only afford to buy one copy, if that, owing to the pricing of it. Its a great pity more of those tracks weren't released. I'm sorry Val, you can bonk me all you like, metaphorically speaking I don't want to offend you but in my opinion Shayne has a far better voice than Gareth You're not offending me Suggy. I wasn't bonking you as you put it, (I probably posted the wrong smiley) I just feel like banging my head against a wall, when I see the same comments posted and I know they're not true. Shayne has got a very good voice as I've said frequently right from the start. Not better than Gareth's, in my opinion. Different, Yes, Better, No. Personally, speaking for myself, I prefer Gareth's voice. There is just something about his singing that grips me, which is no doubt how you feel about Will. Each to his own, is my motto and I don't see the need to criticize other people's preferences just because I may not like them myself. And I'm not saying I don't like Will's voice, just not as much as I do Gareth's and Shayne's :D
June 8, 200619 yr I don't think people here are critisising Shayne, on the contrary, most people have acknowledged that he does have a good voice. The question is, is a good voice and good looks enough to maintain a career once the initial hype is over. The answer is very obviously no and we've had quite a lot of evidence of that this past couple of years, especially where male solo singers are concerned. The problem for most of them is their management and the material they've released. The public haven't bought into them and they're dead & buried. Then look at James Blunt, not a particularly good voice, nor is he particularly good looking, but he's got a fantastic team behind him and a very popular song, and bingo the biggest seller in the UK, against the trend it must be said.

Sorry Marguerite, I can't agree with you there. I think James Blunt has a very unique voice and he is good looking in my opinion. I would say everyone, and I mean everyone, irrespective of looks, or backing, or influential contacts, will only remain popular as long as they are getting to release material the public want to hear and like. Once that ceases to happen, for any artist, then its time to start asserting your own views on what you release, or start looking at what path to take next. Which is what I think Gareth has done. Now this is a Shayne thread so I'm saying nothing more about anyone else.
June 8, 200619 yr Well there you go Val :D I think Shayne is better looking, has a better voice than James Blunt, and I'm not even a fan  I also think that if he got to release something that didn't sound like Westlife rejected it years ago, the boy may have a great career, but he's never going to shed Walsh & Cowell until they want out and by then, it'll be too late. l

I think he might once he realizes he' be better off doing his own thing. He may even turn to rapping :D And there's nothing wrong with Westlife ;) Only my opinion of course :D
June 8, 200619 yr but isn't saying Gareth Gates is better than Shayne Ward just like saying $h!t's better than diarrhoea?
June 8, 200619 yr Val, just how easy do you think it is to 'do your own thing' in this business, especially when you're just a voice for hire from a tv talent show? Do you actually think these singers can tell their label to shove their contract and just move on to another label who will jump at the chance to sign them? If only it was that easy ;) Shayne, for the moment, is earning a profit for Syco. Cowell isn't into artist development, that's a waste of time & money as far as he's concerned. If Shaynes sales drop, like Gareth's sales dropped, he'll move on, there's loads of kids out there who will play the game for a while, earn a few bob and then disappear into obscurity. You obviously have faith that Gareth will be back, with a new album ,and record companies will be queueing up to sign him. All the labels will be interested in is will Gareth earn them money, they certainly won't take a risk of losing any, too many shareholders to answer to.

Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see won't we :D And yes, I do have faith in Gareth and his musical ability, which hopefully will be justified when we see what these `projects' which he spoke about, see the light of day. Which again hopefully won't be long :D
June 11, 200619 yr I too have great faith in Gareth's abilities both as a vocalist and also a musician. I agree that Cowel drops artists like hot potatoes but I don't agree that he does it once they have stopped making him or the record label money - I think he drops them the moment they try to "Go Their Own Way". I am glad Gareth has taken this time away to strenthen his speech and to develop his music and if the rumours about a documentary are true then everyone will see exactly what he has been doing whilst away! As for Shayne - I think Gareth and Shayne are both tremendous artists - I think Shayne has a brilliant voice and I think the potential to remain in the business for a very long time - I don't like Louis Walsh - never have and I think Shayne has to begin to put his own personality into his career before it is too late. I am concerned that SC and LW will push Shayne constantly towards the ballads but they have worked very well for Westlife and if Shayne is happy to record them - then I say no more.
June 12, 200619 yr I watched the Battle of the Stars last evening (nothing else to watch and I was away when it was on before). Although Shayne is a nice looking young man, I feel he is being straight-jacketted by being given these ballads to sing. And the suits to wear! He needs to be able to relax as I felt he was still very nervous when singing. I don't like the song (reminds me of something else) but he tries his best. What I cannot understand is why Simon said he had sold 3million copies of his records. Completely wrong! Talk about hyping him up.
