Snow Patrol are to play an intimate show in Belfast later this month as part of a whistlestop tour of four cities in the UK and Ireland, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal.

 

 

The Northern Irish Grammy nominees will be back home in Belfast for a small show at the Empire Music Hall on Sunday, October 26 to launch their new album A Hundred Million Suns.

 

The five-piece release their new single Take Back The City next week, followed by the launch of their fifth album on Friday, October 24.

 

The two-day tour will take in four capital cities, kicking off in Dublin at lunchtime on October 26 at the Gate Theatre. The band will then come north for the Belfast show. Next day they play the Assembly Room in Edinburgh before travelling to the Bloomsbury Theatre in London for the final show there in the evening.

 

All the venues have been especially selected by the band to give fans the chance to see the first live play of tracks from their new album in special surroundings.

 

Limited tickets for each show are available for Snow Patrol fans to buy via their mailing list and will be allocated to applicants via a lottery draw. Each lucky ticket holder will also get an exclusive free Live CD containing highlights of the show they attend, picking up an artworked CD on the night, which will contain details of how to download music the next day.

 

The entrance lobbies of each of the four venues will be decorated with drawings by pupils from local schools, who have been asked to supply a representation of A Hundred Million Suns in the form of painting, colouring or collage. Snow Patrol are making a donation to each school’s Art Department.

 

Snow Patrol last played Northern Ireland when they staged a massive homecoming concert at ward Park in Bangor in September 2007.

 

The year before, they sold out the Odyssey Arena with a pre-Christmas show.

 

Earlier this year drummer Jonny Quinn revealed to the Belfast Telegraph that the band would be holding a number of intimate shows to promote the new album, which was recorded this summer in Hansa Studios in Berlin and at Grouse Lodge in Ireland. The album was produced by Jacknife Lee.

He has certainly never written directly about it before but the new Snow Patrol single, Take Back the City — the first from the new album A Hundred Million Suns — is all about an urban sprawl he clearly knows well: “It’s a mess, it’s a start, it’s a flawed work of art/ Your city, your call, every crack, every wall/Pick a side, pick a fight, but get your epitaph right.”

 

“Oh yeah, it’s a love letter to Belfast,” he says, nodding emphatically. “I’ve come to realise how much the place actually means to me. The confusion I had as a kid is gone.”
