Brit Award winner, Joss, 21, and 19-year-old Alex are pals and have been in constant contact during the series. Alex’s mum Melissa Bell — who was ’90s pop group Soul II Soul’s lead singer — said their friendship could give Alex the winning edge. Alex was 12 when she met Joss on TV show Star For A Night and the star has often stayed at their London home. Melissa added: “Alex still visits her at her home in Devon and Joss has jetted her out to New York and Barbados for holidays.” Melissa is certain Joss would help her girl to get ahead in the music business. But she insisted: “Alex wants to prove she can get to the top by herself.” Alex first appeared on X Factor in 2005 but failed to make it to the live shows. This time she is among the hot favourites to win after leaving Simon Cowell speechless and Cheryl Cole crying with joy. She is one of the final 24 contestants.
