October 26, 200816 yr Reminder for everyone including B.P 5.10 this afternoon D sings at the Big sing.
October 26, 200816 yr I have set the tv to change channels at that time - just in case anyone decided to take their life in their hands and fiddle.
October 26, 200816 yr I have been watching it (still am) and have to tell you I think Darius was great, fantastic voice and looking good. :cheer: Saw his mum blow him a kiss. :D
October 26, 200816 yr What a wonderful performance he gave, think it was one of his best if not his best. I felt he upstaged katherine jenkins. I do hope I have it on video as its been playing up. Cant get over how great he was.
October 26, 200816 yr I'm glad I saw it but I really can't say that this is my type of music. He did well but I've heard many performances I've preferred.
October 26, 200816 yr Author he sang I need thy sublimly, and from a distance just got better and better as the power in his voice grew, and the emotion was palpable - towards the end I found a lump in my throat, so sweet his mum blowing him a kiss at the end - he was great, obviously I thought he outshone Blake and katherine..I cant listen to her, she puts me in mind of that lion in the original Wizard of Oz.."if I was king of the foooorrreeeeesttt" where did that wobble in her voice come from - has it always been so bad(I only started noticing it when she was on strictly dancing the other week and thought perhaps she has nodules..LOL)). anyway it was great to see and hear him, I managed to record it too! October 26, 200816 yr I think he sang the hymn well. Just not my cup of tea but his voice was really good.
October 26, 200816 yr Author tbh I was putting my own interpretation to the words I need thee so I forgot it was a hyme...he looked so lovely..
October 26, 200816 yr I didnt think the singing of the hymn was as good as from a distance which had more technique. Think the same as you PIP re katherine jenkins, also cant stand the warble in her voice. Saw her do a duet on x factor with Rhydian and to my mind she spoilt it by trying to outsing him and that takes some doing.
October 26, 200816 yr I'm glad I saw it but I really can't say that this is my type of music. He did well but I've heard many performances I've preferred. I am with you on this Meg. I don't feel this was the best Darius could have done, even with these songs, but he was still pretty good, certainly better than Blake(as a group and each individually). I love that he was on screen for almost half the show(solo's and joining in) For once, he wasn't sidelined as so often seems to be the case. KJ's style(the warbling) is an aquired taste(certainly not to mine) but she sang strongly and got a wonderful crowd reaction. I am not religious and this is about the first time I have sat through a full songs of praise. I would do again if D was on, but only if D was on I think! Thanks for the reminder Preston :)
October 26, 200816 yr Same here, Paul. It was hard to sit through anyway and without Darius in it, It wouldn't even have been switched on. My Mum loved it.
October 26, 200816 yr I found it depressing that he was back to 'writing my 3rd album' We've taken a step back from recording it.
October 26, 200816 yr Would you have liked it better meg if Bet midler had sung from a distance on the Big sing or was it the surroundings and format he was in . I am no more religious than the rest of you but it didnt bother me a bit him being on this perhaps it was because I sang in a church choir for 15 years. I really listened to from a distance as a song completely as a separate performance.
October 26, 200816 yr I don't do hymns normally and feel quite uncomfortable so for most of this SOP hid behind the hymn book hoping the cameras wouldn't spot me. However I thought Darius sounded wonderful and even better live and like Preston could listen to From a Distance as a song rather than a hymn. And he sounded far better than Blake. October 27, 200816 yr I've just watched the show and I think Darius sang very well. He must've surprised a few people in the RAH that night. My impression was also that he sang as well, if not better than Blake, who after all were singing in their familiar style and what's more, singing a song they must've sung many, many times before because Lift Us Up Where We belong is pretty much a standard for "crossover" artists and it's on one of their albums. I thought the tempo of Katherine Jenkins' song was a bit slow, but it wasn't familiar to me, so maybe that's how it's meant to be.
October 27, 200816 yr In spite of her warbling Katherine jenkins album has come in at no.5 in the charts so crossover can do well yet Leon jackson last years x factor winner is at no.4 and being called a flop on some sites. I relly dont understand this pop and crossover thing in that she is lower than him yet signs a new 5 million deal.
