Good news, people. I think spamfritter and I might be away at the same time.

 

I'll be away from 3rd to 10th November and from 9th to 16th December. If we are, I'll shout it a bit louder, because we know Darius was way over in LA on Saturday.

I'll tell his Dad, just to make sure.

He was also singing wih a large orchestra which is not an everyday event for him so expect needs more concentration.

Just wondering if Darius sang the verse "From a distance we are instruments marching in a common band, playing songs of hope" etc., on the night.

It's another I'd like to hear him just sing. The list grows.

I have to say, I didnt query the arrangement of FAD, I found it fine- as I cant recall any previous arrangements - the song made no great impact on me from bet Midler,even though I recalled I liked the song- I also didnt realise it was a hyme. I found Darius' version was very moving, he didnt need to be moving around - like diva, which I found really annoying! I found on the contrary his demeanour and facial exressions conveyed a meaningfulness to the song that I hadnt got before, I swear that boy could convert me..LOL I beleive every word he sings and for al the times I have replayed it on vigin I find I am moved every single time, especially as the song builds towards the end - I am rivitted to his performance.

We all have different ideas. That's what makes it good. What one loves anolther doesn't. It doesn't add to or detract from Darius' talent. We just like different aspects of it.

I know I seem to been replaying his from a distance a tad too much today, in fact I think I have found that Darius has a "G spot" note >>>the one where he sings distance three repeats back from the end ..dear lord, when he lets rip with the note on the "men", then hits that note on the word distance is doing things to me, I have had to replay that section quite a lot to make sure that was what was getting me!! I would love to hear Darius continue to use his voice that way, when he lets go it is just exquisite!! :heart:

I must admit I would love to hear him work with a choir and orchestra more, he just seems to be able to do every thing

Well I think he should have worn a tie and had a hair cut....he looked too casual for the setting....that's the mother in me speaking.

From a Distance as PiP say certainly got better as it went along and the last 1/3 was fantastic.

 

The beginning I wasn't sure I liked the arrangement even though I thought he sang it well.

 

I will be listening to it again

 

FAD is a song I adore.

 

I'd love to hear him sing it again but with a different arrangement.....or even unaccompanied

 

He has a wonderful voice :D

however - perhaps he didnt want to come across as on the pr trail, after all Katherine jenkins was blatant with her trying to gain some sales for her new album!! and it really annoys me whne people use events such as this to sell!

I thought he looked splendid, Blake came across more casual than D, especially their flailing around on the stage which I hated. he looked just right, and his posture was so dignified - I could look into his eyes all day, I love the way he looks straight at you even when on camera, and around at the audience, very commanding and just perfect for the event I felt, don't like it when he is too formal

I haven't listened to any of the others.

 

I was at work so taped it and just watched the Darius bits

It's just unfair :(

I hope to goodness that if he decides to scrap songs yet again, he won't delete his acoustic demo masters of them and that they may come out some time in the future.

 

I've always been worried that without a monkey on his back, Mr Pernickety would take over and/or the album would always be a lower priority than new projects on stage or screen which excite him, simply because the time frame is elastic.

pip, you do me good - you really make me laugh.

 

His voice certainly does seem to have won over some new people. If they'd asked, I'd have told them before how good it was. His appearance didn't.

In my opinion, the first thing which would improve his appearance would be dispense with the humble closed lips smile and smile openly and naturally. Darius has a beautiful smile but instead he does it with closed lips.

 

Why? There's nothing wrong with his teeth and there's nothing wrong with him acknowledging positive feedback from the audience with a proper smile and similarly smiling when he's interviewed, as KJ and Blake did.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Darius always seems to be expecting the worst and carrying on regardless. He does have a beautiful smile but he hardly ever seems to relax into it these days. I thnink that this was the only one I got this time.

Having just watched this again, I was struck by just how nice a man Aled has turned out to be. I think of the boy and now he's someone who's famous ans still the same person.

I do hope Aled will sing on the Christmas Big Sing programme. I was very surprised he didn't sing at least once this time.

 

It's pointless telling people how good a singer Darius is, megham. They don't believe it, without finding out for themselves.

 

The trouble is, there are so few opportunities afforded Darius to sing on evening or weekend shows on TV, which is still the most influential medium.

 

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that I think that's the first evening/weekend adult TV show Darius has sung on for 4 years - Tickled Pink at the RAH was probably the last time and the edit showed only Colourblind for him but everyone else's new ones, despite the fact Darius also sang Live Twice, which he was about to release.

 

I trust that no-one is going to suggest that Darius was miming at any point during the Big Sing. Perhaps the cynics might at last concede that in the past, the fact that he was not wearing earpieces did not by itself indicate he wasn't singing live with his band. No-one on Big Sing wore earpieces and they had massive sounds behind them. Darius is a musician so he's used to listening to several instruments and his own voice while he's singing.

 

Those who insisted he mimed when I knew he'd sung live wouldn't listen either when I explained how the tongue movement needed to convert Glasgow's dull "l" sound could give the impression that someone actually singing live, was miming, especially when there are two ls in quick succession, as there are throughout Colourblind.

 

Watch where Darius sings "look like my friend" or "love of loves" and you'll see how exaggerated the tongue movement looks, if you're looking directly at his mouth when he's facing the camera.
