Hi everyone *waves*

I'm still around, and absolutely loving Will's 4th baby - what a beauty, doncha think?

Grace was the track that had me hooked initially (although it's been overtaken now, LOL) and I was delighted to hear it would be the second single. Who could fail to be impressed, I thought, whilst having happy daydreams at all those people who would be clamouring to get their mitts on LIG

However, the doubts have now set in ....... sure, Grace is brilliant - as are all the tracks on LIG. But how will it be received by those outside the bubble? Will it really grab people and make them think " Wow, I'm seeing Will Young in a whole different light - I really must own that album!" Will it really help to shift lots of albums?

The trouble is, I've lost all ability to be objective when it comes to Will and his voice. I think his voice is utterly amazing, and don't understand why far more people haven't already rushed out to buy the album. If what they've heard so far hasn't done the trick, will Grace change anything?

I'd like to think that Grace will blow people away, because I love it LOL! - what does everyone else think? Will Grace promote LIG more than Changes did and win new fans? Or will it just keep LIG ticking over in the album charts and the public consciousness?

I'd love to hear what other people think :)

Blimey, I wish I knew the answer to that question. :D

I hope it does what it's intended to, personally, it wouldn't be my choice for the 2nd release, but what do I know?

If I'm honest, I can't see this track attracting floating buyers in the same way as perhaps, Won't Look Down or If Love Equals Nothing or even Love might do, but it's obviously a decision made by people who know more about the music business than I do, so I hope they'll be proved right and I'll be proved wrong. :P

I hope Grace will catapult LIG back into the top 10. But I'm also completely unsure about that at the same time. I wish I'd feel more confident.

While I do love Grace, what with Christmas coming up etc, I would have chosen I Won't Look Down as the second single, with Grace 3rd and the upbeat I Won't Give Up as a 4th. But I'm sure Grace will hopefully gee up the album sales nicely. :D

I tend to agree. My choice for the Xmas market would have been I Won't Look Down (think this would have particular appeal to the X Factor audience) or I Won't Give Up more upbeat for the Xmas parties.

I loved Grace when I first heard it but although I still like it it isn't a fav of mine. It seems to have lost the freshness. Maybe it's just I've heard it a lot. I'm just hoping it makes the same impression on the new audience that it first made on me.

With the market being the way it is good sales seem to be accumulated over a longer period of time so I hope Will maintains his enthusiasm for promoting this album & releases at least 4 maybe even 5 singles.

I think probably you're right TT. We think it a bit stale because we've heard it so much, but I'm pretty sure (well I hope) that the general public's reaction will be the same as ours when we first heard it. Personally I think Simple Philosophy should be a single, but then I'm probably in a minority of one.

Anyway I think we all analyze things a bit too much. I think it will sell very well indeed over a period of time, and could very well be the album for entry into the US. That's of course if Will wants to go down that road.

Hi Peachycheeks - Very difficult question to answer because we all love different things.

No you're not Chrysalis - I love that for a single too - but I also think I Won't Look Down would do it too - and Are You Happy is a great 'club' record bouncy and feelgood. As I said over on D - he doesn't have to prove he can do a great emotive ballad like LIG.

When you get the Great British People buying Geraldine's song - who the hell knows what they would like - I despair

Yes & if we are looking to the performance on X Factor to boost album sales Grace couldn't be further away in appeal than GA's The Promise & obviously the viewers loved that :

Have never been a big fan of grace..love 'won't look down' and 'I won't give up'...not sure how Grace will do on the x factor i think the 2 i mentioned would have done a lot better.

but i hope i'm wrong :P

Thank you all for your replies, it's nice to read so many varied and interesting opinions :)

I echo what TT has said about the 'freshnness' having been lost - but that's probably my own fault for playing it so much! But it really did make me sit up and go "Wow!!" :w00t: when I first heard it on the T4 show. I hope other non-Will fans feel the same about it.

It's not my overall favourite on the album (that honour would go to TMTW, closely followed by ILEN, YDN, and pretty much everything else on there, LOL!). I know it's impossible to ask people what they think would make the best choice of single, because we all love different things. I just want Will to pick the songs that will have the best effect on album sales, which are not necessarily my own personal faves.

Having said that, I'm glad that single no.2 is not a ballad because of the fact that the last two releases from KO were ballads and, although nobody does a ballad quite like Will, I do think it's important that the public sees that he's just as good at the more upbeat numbers.

But a ballad for single no. 3 would be absolutely fine  and, possibly, coinciding with Valentine's Day as discussed elsewhere?? We'd be spoilt for choice, so many beauties to choose from. I think I'd go for YDK, that one really tweaks at the heartstrings. Except that (just musing to myself here) there wouldn't be very much of a gap between nos. 2 and 3, would there? It would have to start getting airplay around mid-January, which is only 6 weeks after Grace is released ....... doesn't seem very long, does it?

Anyway, enough ramblings from me. Sorry  It just seems so long since I was able to lose myself in new Will songs, and it feels good!

PS. Very much looking forward to the X-factor appearance, btw. I'm not worried about the performance, don't be silly, we're talking about Will - it's what he does best! I just want everything about him to look DDG - hair, outfit, the lot - then I'll be a very happy bunny :D

Me neither Peachycheeks. No one does live better than Will (well he's had so much practice) :) just hope the X Factor viewers fully appreciate it. ;)

'Grace' wouldn't have been my choice of second single, but what do I know

I really love 'Love' and would have like that as a second single. I can't wait to see him live singing this, and always bop around the flat when I listen to it :yahoo:

I love Love too but it would be too difficult to edit for radio. :( I wonder if Grace was always going to be the second single or Will & his team have been swayed by the response at the festivals. WAI was released due to perceived public demand & I wouldn't have chosen that as a third single either. Perhaps Will wants to steer away from being known as a balladeer with the more gutsy release of Grace.

The thing is, that the singles were chosen, all done and dusted, before the album was released. So, whatever way the sales for LIG went, it appears that the tracks that were to be released from it were almost set in stone.

I suppose there is a rhyme and reason behind it all, maybe Grace is a more 'blokey' style track, afterall that was the constant at his festival appearances while the other new tracks changed round.

I think that some of the male reviewers also picked Grace as the outstanding track didn't they?

With such a diverse age ranged fan base as Will has, it's extremely difficult to pick what would be the best single choice. I've read a lot of good things on D about This is Who I Am, but personally I don't like it at all and the best I can say about it, is it's different :D

  • 2 weeks later...
I've now watched my recording. Will really did play a blinder. :yahoo: Don't think I've heard him sing as well before, and that's saying something.

I've always loved Grace - even before it was announced as the next single (which I was hoping for).

Tonight's performance only cements my view that it was so the right choice to help push the sales.
